Being able to ask for help, for answers to questions, or for motivational or emotional support is, in my opinion, one of the best parts of this site!

Wow you folks are great. I've been very quiet over the past year. I've seldom asked for help in my life. Yesterday I ate on the lower end of my scale and today I started a new exercise routine. Another thing is I get really peckish in the evenings so I've spread some of those carbs to the evening hours and am eating lighter meals through the day. I'll try this for a while and see what happens. emoticon emoticon

What wonderful advice everyone is giving--I especially like the tidbit from STRINGS58. Plateaus are difficult because you feel like you are stuck in a rut, and maybe to a degree you are. Maybe you keep trying the same way to climb out of the rut (i.e. same foods, exercise routines, even your attitude or mindset.). If there is something new that you have been wanting to try, maybe now is the time! Our bodies adapt to our routines, and with exercise this can mean that our muscles are working as hard as they should be.

Don't agonize over not being where you want to be or that you aren't seeing the results you want. Instead, try to relish the progress that you have made and enjoy the new "scenery."

Best wishes!

I'm all for "enjoying it up" as well as "mixing it up" -- you've achieved real success! Focusing on the relapse or whatever you want to call it is only useful if you plan to learn from it and create strategies for all the other "next times." Enjoy a different workout. Enjoy a day of disciplined eating. Enjoying life is why we are getting fit and healthy, but why not enjoy it along the way. Stuck may have many reasons including internal changes that are hard to see on the scale. Stuck is like marking time -- the feet move but you don't go anywhere, but it's not a prison sentence. There will be another success.

Well I'm with everyone else. I would mix it up. If you normally eat a fiber cereal and a fruit for breakfast, switch to a yogurt and a piece of toast or Substitute a protein bar for your lunch. Most importantly, make sure your doing some excersize and I'm sure you can punch through the barrier.

Thank you Pook: Actually I was in Walmart yesterday and saw a book about that very thing changing your calorie range. I had tried that long ago and your right it did work. Sometime we just need to be reminded over and over and over.
Thanks again. emoticon

Maybe you could change up your exercise a little, or one day eat at the bottom of your calorie range and the next eat closer to the top?
Could be your body is just anticipating what you're doing. Maybe you need to change things just a little to keep it guessing. That works for me to break through plateaus.

If it's amazing, it won't be easy. If it's easy it won't be amazing. If it's worth it you won't give up. If you give up you're not worth it.

emoticon on losing 40 pounds! That is not easy to do. I am stuck too. People told me to switch my exercise routine to start losing again. That's what I'm trying to do. Don't give up. Good luck with your goals.

Dianne,

It sounds like you are doing awesome to me!

You've changed your way of thinking and you've made this a lifestyle instead of just a means to an end. I would just say to persevere and you will overcome this plateau. Are you measuring? Maybe your inches are going down - you should try measuring once a month if you don't already.

"For last years words belong to last years language and next years words await another voice." T. S Elliot

Maybe you need to change something up this year. Keep at it, you'll hit your goal before you know it!

best wishes.......... emoticon

God Bless,

Dena

Hi Everyone: I'm Dianne and just turned 65. Something I was looking forward to was hitting goal by now.
Losing every pound when I started was like pulling teeth. Then I got into a smooth pattern after a time of losing 3-4 lbs per month. I was ten lbs to my original goal just before Christmas. I've since reset it another 20. I've always been a healthy eater, now I'm just a healthier eater. At Christmas I hit a snag when I slipper into a mild depression so when I finally hit 65 I had actually gained a pound. I can make all the excuses in the world. 1) It's winter here bitter cold so I'm not walking the dog every day. 2)The tornado wiped out the gym.(true) 3) I now have a newly acquired social life since retiring so eat out more often... and so on and so on. I spend hours everyday reading information, planning meals and getting it spot on with the fat/protein/carb balance.
That target has been recently changed in my program. I don't know if this is something that happens when you get close to goal or not. Put all the excuses aside now I'm back to the way it was when I first started;is this just another learning curve? When I started I thought 1 year to goal, I can do that with time to spare, but here I am. Stuck.Dianne emoticon emoticon emoticon
