Thank you so much for the support.I checked out the chair exercise DVD's and will be ordering one.
I AM NEW TO THE TEAM, TOO. BUT THERE IS LOTS OF SUPPORT HERE AND YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I AM STILL TRYING TO GET STARTED. I JUST GOT A NEW DVD OF CHAIR EXERCISES AND AM WAITING TO GET MY NEW CHAIR ASSEMBLED, AS WE DID NOT HAVE ANY APPROPRIATE CHAIRS FOR EXERCISE. I HOPE TO "SEE YOU AROUND" AND SAY HI!

Gretchen I want to encourage you and tell you this is a great team. I felt like you when I tried exercise I'd hurt myself and give up. I started with just 10 minutes moving around in my lift chair...looked more like I was wiggling than dancing. LOL I started by finding songs on youtube I liked and played them. I am amazed that by these small steps of exercising I have grown stronger and have done some "normal" things I had not been able to do in 11 years. I did over do it about a month in by trying to walk outside pushing my wheelchair and pulled a muscle. Thank goodness for all the support on sparkpeople that came about not giving up...2 steps forward one back...we are still making progress. I have found other exercise than walking with wheelchair and am getting stronger. You also can do it....baby steps are still steps.

You have come to the right team, We have lots of Chair Exercises that can be done. check out our forums and I am sure you will find you can do some of the Exercises.
Don't forget looking after your Nutrition is very inportant as well .

I am Gretchen and I live in Central Oregon. I have degenerative joint disease . I can't do much at a time so mostly I haven't exercised in a long time. So this team sounded like a good fit for me. I tend to want to do too much and then I'm in pain and I can't do anything so I give up and get depressed. My husband is very supportive and very active. so I'm hoping with the help of the team I can get more mobility and less constant pain.
