Yes, if you can gently steer her towards the right proportions, (on a plate, 1/2 salad/veggies, 1/4 protein/ 1/4 starch) she can still make some of her favs, just in a slightly different amount. Does she make a favorite salad you like? Start there. Instead of lecturing her on Spark, just start living it and it's okay to say, "Mom, that was delicious, I'm just full." Even if you have to have a separate lunch before you get there. Eventually she will want to "feed and take care of you," after all that's her job (I know, I'm a Mom)and maybe alter her lunch menus according to what you're eating and what you're leaving. Nobody wants to be told to diet, they have to be ready. Who knows, if you start looking smaller, she may want to know your secrets!

This is much harder than having somebody totally supportive, but it may be the way for you to go, so you can stick to your plan and not hurt Mom's feelings.

THAT is the most challenging thing, not to hurt her feelings! You pegged it! I asked her work schedule this morning for next week, to see if I need to pack my lunch, and she asked 'why would you need to do that,?" God Bless her! I told her that she didn't need to worry, that I could cook for myself...big mistake ~ she likes to take care of everyone!

Moms can be a delicate challenge. If you tell them you don't want their food, it be taken as a rejection, so praise, praise, praise the healthy stuff. The beauty of a healthy salad (lots of veggies, small amounts of other stuff) is you can eat a lot while sticking to your goals. Once she sees you enjoying them she might make salads more often to please you (and your daughter).

Can you talk her into making a salad? She can still make the fried stuff, but if you start with a salad, you can just pick at the fried stuff. Don't talk to her about it, just do it and she'll start to notice.

Oh my love, I tell her that! lol ~ you need to understand, OLD SCHOOL and south! where everything is fried! I'm going to take her lunch this week, and see what she says. I've told her with sparks, if you don't like/have that item, you click to change... but she, like all moms, will hear what she wants to! And we love them for it!

Remember its not diet food, or at least I don't think of it that way. It is a life style change to eat the right food instead of junk food!

By taking "diet" out of it maybe your mother will think differently about the food she eats.

How about printing off some of Chef Meg's recipes. They are nice and full of flavor. I've made a couple for pot lucks dinners at work and no one is the wise that it is healthy and low calorie. If she allows you to cook, maybe you could make one.

I think a lot of people, me included thought diet food was on the same level as hay.

Ok.. here's the thing~ I eat lunch with my mother every day, but she loves to FRY food and says she can't afford 'diet' food. I've been telling her about Sparks, but she hasn't got on here yet. So i need ideas that I can take in and surprise her with lunch!
