Hi, So glad to have found this team. I have been trying to keep track of my steps with walking indoors and out . So far I have averaged 8--10k steps a day but my goal is to average 10-20k a day. Love walking. It is my favorite exercise especially outdoors in nature when the weather permits otherwise I do my walking dvd's. Anything I can do I will do to get my steps in.

No snacks
No sweets
No seconds

Hi. My name is Lisa and I live in Colorado.
I have been with SparkPeople since 2007, but I haven't been serious until now.
I currently walk about 3.75 miles every week day and have lost and kept gone, almost 30 pounds, just walking, since last April!
Thought I'd join a group of people like myself! :)

Hi, I am 57 years old and live in Michigan. I was originally looking for a Relay For Life team but since there wasn't any, this seemed to be the closest I could come to that.

I am on a team called Cure Crusaders for Gratiot County Michigan. My team captain is also my chore person. It was funny. I just had hip replacement surgery and need help with my housework. When I applied, I had a neighbor who was going to look for a chore person and so she had a name. I called her right away and when I told her my name she says "We have met before, I'm team captain for the Relay team you signed up with". I had a meeting set up with the supervisor for DHS so I told her when it was and she said she'd be here. I have been approved for her to be here 5 hours a week. She is doing a fantastic job!

Why I walk for Relay For Life is that my Mom passed away just 10 years ago from Pancreatic Cancer. I went to the cemetery on the 10th anniversary. I met my Dad there. . Dad and I have never been close but since before Mom's death, I learned to forgive his emotional abuse, after all, the only one you are hurting when you have unforgiveness is yourself.

I look forward to being on this team!

Hi I'm 51 and from the UK. I haven't walked regular for a while but will start building up my times again. I know it helps the weight shift quicker and makes you feel better emotionally and physically.

Hi, I'm Michelle. I have been walking everyday for a couple months now. I average about 3 miles a day. I use a Jawbone Up to track my steps. I usually take my friends dog with me. She usually walks me!

Walking is essential to my plan as is yoga and strength training. I enjoy it but I'm a bit picky about the weather. I don't like the cold and yet I live in Minnesota. Good thing I can walk at the Mall of America! emoticon

Hi! I'm Katty, from Uruguay, South America. I've been in and out of Sparkpeople for almost 8 years. This year is one of transitions and I need to get ready for the changes, so I cut down my workload a bit to make time for this project of losing weight. I walk my dog- a pug- about 15 km per week (9 miles). I am introvert doing an extrovert's job (I'm a teacher) so, when I'm home, I need to recharge from the draining social interactions- that's why I won't be so visible here, socially speaking. I hope you can understand.
Have a great week!

Hello! I'm new to this team. I've been away from SP for over a year and now coming back to my senses!! I hurt my knee last year and have been a lot less active. I spent a year training for a 10k run, then hurt myself and now can only walk. Even then, I have to be careful. It's frustrating, but I am also realizing that I need some time to heal and build up my strength again. In the meantime I managed to gain back most of the weight I had lost, minus 8 lbs!!
So that's enough, I need to be more disciplined.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi everyone, I am Susan from Southern Ontario Canada.
I am 62 years young and I love to power walk. I usually do a 6K or more once a day but if I am feeling bored, I will go out twice.
I returned to Spark People in June after being away for a few years.
I returned to get back in the best shape I can and so far success has rewarded in me in losing 18 pounds so far and giving me back the energy and strength to get out there and move.

I hope to make some new friends here and I wish everyone success in your healthy journey. emoticon

I started walking and the more I walked the better the legs got. I wear my tracker so I know most weeks I do better good with the walking. My goal for this August is 50,000 steps a week.

Hi everyone. I am Missy from Louisiana. I am 51, married with two almost grown children, one in college and one in high school. I love walking! I cant run because of bad knees. I like walking outside but not in the heat so luckily I have a gym in our bonus room over the garage. We have a treadmill, elliptical trainer, stationary bike, I own lots of workout videos--mostly Walk Away the Pounds. I have decided that I will not sit down after I wake up in the morning until I have gotten in my walk. I work as a special ed para in elem school so I am off work in the summer. Plan to get up an hour early when school starts to get my walk done before work because I don't have the energy after work. I hope to lose 50 lbs over a year's time.

Hope to get to know you all here!

Love thru Christ,
Missy

I've been on spark for a while and have been walking since 8mos . Dad said I was to fat to crawl, so had to walk to avoid rug burn. W

Lost over 100lbs almost 5yrs ago, I simply started walking and then slowly progressed. To harder workouts.m Gained 30lbs bk in short time a yr ago but quickly took that off. W running and workouts like insanity.

I won't say I love excercise per say but I do love the challenge and seeing what my body can do. As I said I started walking and that grew to jogging and then running. Unfortunetly I began having knee issues last summer and by fall it quit on me. It took a lot of time but one day it hit me that I can still walk and I should be grateful for that. So I am. I hike or power walk almost daily and am finding that it can be just as rewarding as running.....with less pain!

I work part time, otherwise I stay home w my five yr old son.

Hi Everyone,
I have been a brisk outside walker for many years; but had foot surgery last year. So I just started to get back into my walking routine slowly last month. I am happy that I found this team and love the title. Looking forward to being a part of this team.

I may not be new to Sparkpeople, but I am definitely new to exercise. I just wanted to say hi and hopefully gain the motivation to get healthy. This is a struggle for me, but I'm really trying. I've had excuse after excuse in the past and I don't want to make anymore excuses. My doctor told me walking is the best place to start, so I'm going to try to make it a habit. I hope I'm successful this time.

I have a goal to run again (sometime in my lifetime!) But since I'm 50 and overweight it's best to protect my precious knees and WALK until I lose or don't run. But it's my dream
to emoticon !

So I'm walking before work on days when I've been motivated to do so.. I live in the rainy climate of the Willamette Valley of Oregon and some mornings this is literally almost impossible (atleast if I were to drive to work first and then walk) as I would be soaked!

Anyhow, I've walked through our recent snow storm emoticon and I've walked to the grocery store, the post office and to the pharmacy. I've pretty much been a walking fool as of late.

Welcome JCrow4,
First congratulations on your marriage. So glad you are enjoying walking for exercise. I walk for exercise and emotional health. I use a Fitbit pedometer to keep me motivated. My goal is 10,000 steps per day. If by 4:30 PM I am under I get moving. I have good rain gear with reflective tape when out in the evening. On last tip, when the heavy rain and snow keeps me indoors I use Leslie Sansone's walk at home DVD's. Looking forward to sharing with you and the group.

Hi, my name is Jamie and I am new to this forum, but not new to sparkpeople. I decided to start walking to get in shape for my honeymoon in New Orleans this year. My husband and I signed up for a handful of walking tours in the French Quarter and Garden District, and I figured that I needed to get in shape to do those. So I started walking every other day around my neighborhood. Well, we just got back from our honeymoon, which I was more than prepared for, and I realized I didn't want to just stop walking. Our neighborhood has some really magnificent trees and landscaping; I couldn't bear to stay indoors and miss the fall colors!

I want to stay motivated to keep walking, and also get some tips and tricks from experienced outdoor walkers about walking in all kinds of weather so I decided to try this forum. :)

Hi there fellow walkers, I am new to this group. I am a walker, mostly forest trails. I love the fresh air, walking on spongy pine duff and grade changes going up and down hills. I live in Western Oregon with husband, 2 dogs and 2 cats. My goals are to live a healthy lifestyle and as a result reach my body type weight range. Yes range, I decided to set a 5 lb goal weight range to avoid stressing over a 2-3 lbs gain.

I hope this is an active group and look forward to learning and sharing with you.

Good morning everyone!

I found this site and thought it would be a great fit. I recently tried to to to the walk/jog challenge, but my knee would not work with me, so I am back to walking. This works very well for me because you can always fit some walking in. My mother bought me walking shoes as an early b-day present, and I have a Spark Tracker, so her goes nothing :-)

Little about me; I live in Ca, north of San Francisco. I'm going to be 29 on Nov. 15, married but no kids. Wish I had a dog to walk, but we can't have a dog where we live. Besides, I don't think Parsley(my puddy cat) would like a dog friend very much emoticon

My goal right now is to try and walk 6,000 steps a day. I want to work my way up to 10,000 but 6,000 is good for me right now. emoticon

Hi, my name is Samantha and I am 32 years old. I enjoy WATP workouts and I do a different walk six days a week and I add bootcamp dvds which are mostly strength training based on 3 of these days.

My starting weight was 104kg (229 pounds) and I am now down to 89kg (196 pounds). My goal is to be at 80kg (176 pounds) by the end of the year.

One of my new gols is to participate more in the community and I just created my Spark page yesterday. I am looking for accountability buddies who enjoy walking as their go to exercise.

***Samantha***

I can do it!

Hello :)
My name is Angela and I'm fairly still new to SP but I'm learning,I'm a mother of 2 teeneagers which is a handful there, lol. I'm getting back into losing weight I had to quit due to sickness which turned out to be that I have acid reflux, and then found out that I have thyroid issues as well.I recently quit smoking for my children,so that's another healthy choice I made.I'm always up for a challenge it helps keep me working for my weightloss goal. And I love meeting new people.

Hi! I just joined this group this am. I walk almost everyday for better health. My favorite walks are "destination" walks such as along the river or on the beach. I'm 37 and is using walking to leave behind a lot of extra weight and bad habits. Good health to all and enjoy your walk today.

Day by day, one choice at a time.

I'm new on SparkPeople. I used to walk for my health all the time - before I gained this weight. I tore my meniscus in my knee almost 10 years ago and that put a stop to my walking and I started gaining weight. I had my knee scoped and was told it was bone-on-bone - no cartilage left. It took me a very long time to be able to walk without pain and limping, and I've got arthritis in that knee now.

Nevertheless, I'm giving it another try because I've got to lose this weight. I'm 53 years old and work full time. I'm enjoying this site - I like planning my food and I like how I feel when I eat "clean".

Would like some motivation buddies! Come visit my Spark Page.

Hi Everyone!
I'm Jackie from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but live in Abruzzo Italy now. I have started walking recently and have already made improvements in the distance I can walk....from nothing to something anyway.
I want walking to be my main exercise for now, as it is easier on my aging, big body. Then as I lose and become more fit ( hopefully) I can add other exercise.
Good luck to everybody in their walking program!

Hi, new here! I'm in my late 58's and have 3 sons, 3 beautiful Daughter in Laws and 12 grandchildren. I live on Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri from about March through early December and then head to Tucson, Arizona for the winters (until we can sell our house there). I retired about 5 years ago and just after we bought our retirement home the bottom fell out of the market and we have been unable to sell the Tucson house so we go back and forth. Praying this is the winter we sell it!

I am not a speedy "loser" by any means...I'm the turtle, dropping a bit here and a bit there. I was down about 15 pounds but became very sick with pneumonia and ended up in the hospital twice in a month this past Spring. So, being down for so long and so many steroids put it all back on and then some...so I'm picking away a bit at a time! Looking for some support and friendship on this journey to a much healthier me!
