HI , I just found SP a little over a month ago and just tonight found this group, and I am so happy I did. Due to an injury, walking is the best exercise for me- even if I had an expensive gym member ship, 99% of the machines I wouldn't be able to use. I also have 2 dogs, and also as a result of my injury I can't walk them at the same time, so I walk twice a day- once with each dog. I have to agree that they have gotten into a routine. They see me put my iphone in my armband and get my headphones they know someone is going for a walk. They will follow me around until I go to the door. If I don't get one of them ready they get all antsy.

I would love to hear about everyones success and what they have found works to shed the weight and torch those pesky pounds!!!

Welcome to Spark. I was lucky enough to discover Spark in Mar. Being a Type 2 diabetic also I have found that tracking my food daily has been a big help in getting my portions under control. I'm still exploring all of the areas within this site and keep finding extremely helpful information.
Walking is my main source of exercise. I have a stop watch to keep track of how long it takes me to do a route. I plan my day and mentally compose my to do list. Now that I have myself in a routine I have been trying to better my time ever time I go out. Consistency is good.
I am so thankful for this site. Good Luck

Welcome. Your dog will love you if you walk, so take the poor animal out and enjoy the walk. I find that parts of walking are fun and parts are ridiculously boring. I find that I have to do something with my mind so I can walk and not feel like I have things I could be doing at home.

I listen to books while I walk. I get them free from the library and download new books regularly. I can use the time to expand my mind, read books recommended by others, and read the "guilty pleasures" that I wouldn't want to "waste time" on at home. It is also fun to listen to music but would prefer to expand my mind and not recite the words of the songs in my head.

My dog, once I started walking regularly (a week or so) would follow me around the house until we had our walk. If I sat down and did something else, the head would be on my lap until I gave up and we walked. The dog will walk any time, anywhere. She loves her walks and at ten years old is quite fit.

Hi everyone...my name is Linda and I just joined Spark People. I have used Nutrisystem for the past two months and lost 20 lbs. The problem is it is pretty expensive. I like walking but never seem to have the motivation to get "out there" and do it. I have a wonderful dog and I know he would benefit from the walking also. Hope to stay in contact and connected to keep my motivation up for a daily walk. I know I will feel so much better and energetic if I stick to it and hopefully lose some weight with walking and following the spark people Type 2 diabetic meal plan. Thanks for being here.
