Wow I've never heard these things. I've owned tennis shoes, boots and heels of all different types over the years and have never owned a pair of shoes as comfortable (to me) as these! I absolutely love em, my feet don't hurt, no pressure spots, the squishy bottom absorbs shock so that I never get shin splint anymore, my knees feels better and my back and posture feels better. To each their own I guess. :)

I'm gonna need a set of Yak-tracks, their what keeps getting suggested to me here and from friends. I have a new roomie moving in soon with a treadmill though but that only gets me up, not my dogs.

First - waving hello from Spokane Wa =)

Second - I have never worn those shoes but it just doesnt look right - how the shoe works vs the shape of the foot. I have used the Yax trax and love them - just had to remember keep them in a bag in my purse.

My oldest daughter is a manager at a local shoe store here in PA - she has had a number of women returning the 'sneakers' complaining about aches and pains they've experienced after wearing them over time. I have a friend (62 years young) who is an AVID walker and swears by them......not at them.

I've heard more cons than pros and even though I would get them at a great discount through my daughter I won't waste my money.

I believe in myself, I am a strong woman. I will reach my goals, NOTHING & NOBODY will hold me down. I will live my life with integrity and intention. I will set a good example for my daughters and my son. I will be a woman that makes my grand children proud when they look at pictures of me long after I've left this earth.

Welcome to the Team!

I bought a pair and I noticed pressure on the side of my foot, so I don't wear them that often.

Regarding Shape Up sneakers- my daughter is a chiropractor and says MANY people are coming in with lower back problems after wearing them, my co-worker (we are nurses) has injured her knee and my daughter in law has injured her back !!!!! So PLEASE be careful-remember if it seems too good to be true it is !!! No simple way to weight lose or body shape change.

Yak Traxs or similar attachments work well on ice and snow. Many people carry them and change into them when the road/sidewalk gets icy. They are a little slick when on regular pavement because they are "snow tire studs" and just the metal touches down.

I don't usually walk when the weather is bad. Use indoor videos. Just me...

I have Shape-ups. They do hurt my knees. Might be just me. Podiatrists hate them. They have no support inside. Many people have Plantar Fasciitis with them.

Haven't seen any difference in people's "appearance" with them

Mine will get occasional use, but I will not spend a lot of time in them. I like Reeboks, New Balance and Rykas. I have a couple of pair and trade off every other day.

I'm on my feet all day and love my Crocs. Good arch support and no foot pain. Knees don't hurt either.

Thanks for the welcome all! Wish I lived in Flordia! I'm going to become a snowbird at some point..very strongly dislike the snow..either that or I need a winter hobby..I'm a horse trainer and that's nearly impossible in the winters here.

When I first got my Shape-ups I was excited to see some difference but always had that silly nagging thought that they were silly looking but I wore them for a day of work and they are my everyday shoes now. I have only tried on the Reebok version of them so I can't really compare the comfort to anything else but I'm in love with them!

I'd really like to get some sort of machine to use indoors but it's not in my budget. I have a possible new roomie coming in and he's got a treadmill so we'll see how that goes..guess I'll have to teach my dogs to use it so the get the exercise too. ;)

Hi Alicia and welcome to the team!. emoticon
I used to live in MN so I know what you mean about the ice and snow--live in So Fl now. I was not able to walk outside in the winter but I had a health walker--sort of like the gazelle. I used that in the winter time. I have the Dr. Scholl's Walking Interval sneakers that a fellow sparker tole me about. I was interested in the Shape-ups and was going to purchase them until I put out a message about them. I received a lot of replies both positive and negative. A walker/runner team member mentioned about the Dr. Scholl's and I checked them out--wound up buying them. They are just as comfortable as the Shape-ups and were half the price, also. They even look like Shape-ups and make my knees and back feel better.
Look forward to seeing your posts on the site and staying in touch.

Welcome! I can't help you on the walking in the snow, I live in Florida, here we worry about water intake and heat stroke while exercising outside.

emoticon Alicia - emoticon on the consistent weight loss....

Interesting about the "Shape-Ups" - I've often wondered about them and have read conflicting reports. Your report is encouraging especially about the posture, it's something that I need to do....

You came to a great place.

HI there! I'm Alicia. I'm 24 and live in Eastern Washington. I re-joined Sparkpeople back in October and have been doing well so far, consistently losing a lb a week since then. Most of this was done by sinply watching what I ate (which I never did before) and exercising a little bit. Since things are going so well I'd really like to start upping my exercise! I have 3 dogs who need the walks and know it will benefit us all to get out and walk!

So..hello! Some information I'm looking for to get started: Do any of you use the "tire chain" like straps for your shoes? I live in an area that is EXTREMELY snowy and icey and had a severe knee injury a few years ago due to ice so it's really hindering my getting started!
Also, anyone have a program that builds on itself and is varied?

I have been wearing the Shape-Ups for everyday use (as they are absolutely the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and I'm a vet assistant so am on my feet alot), has anyone used these with positive results for your walking routines? I've seemed to notice an improvment in my posture and my back and knees seem to hurt less, but it may be due to other things too.

Anywho!
