CMKUNKLE1, I have a Omron pedometer. It tracks Steps, aerobic, calories burned and miles walked for each day. The pedometer starts keeping track of the aerobics when you keep moving for 10 minutes straight. Anything less, it marks it as just steps.

10,000 steps recommendation is about total steps for the day (waking to sleeping) but it is wise to get some "exercise" steps in the mix. They are two different animals, but both are intended to encourage us to increase our overall activity.

Ah, I get it now! I've been relying on my pedometer but feel as if I'm 'cheating' a bit because some steps are not aerobic (if I don't go for dedicated walk/runs) and I bet that isn't as effective. It's probably a good idea to track aerobic steps vs just steps to be sure I'm really ramping -- I never kept track of my daily steps before, so not sure how incremental I'm really being now (aside from obvious dedicated time to walking).

There are lots of pedometer users in this group, the Pedometer Team I would assume is primary pedometer users. This one has a mix, treadmill, outside, some use the Walk Away the Pounds. Right now I'm doing primarily treadmill. Now that it's cooling down I will get in some outside trail walking. I'm in a good streak with the treadmill doing about 80 to 140 minutes at 1.5 mph a day. My little laptop fits on my book rack so I do my email and online stuff for a couple hours, or read. When I'm online I can be walking for hours and not notice. It's working for me so it's great.

Hi - I'm pretty new too and I've joined this as well as 10k steps group. Are the two related? It seems as if the goals are similar...any tips for maximizing both?

Welcome to Sparks!
What kind of walking do you do for exercise? Treadmill, pedometer or neighborhood walks?
