Hi, my name is sheena, i just joined... I've been walking every other day for at least 30min each time, i'm hoping to step it up to 6 days a week and then upping the time to 60 min. I love walking!!! Its easy, inexpensive, and everyone can do it!!!

Welcome all new people emoticon ! Walking is indeed great. It's probably what I enjoy most, other than dancing. Hiking, too! Love all three.

The one thing I see in common with the three of you is looking at what works for you. No one program works for every body or every person's finances or time constraints. It is in finding what we enjoy and will do, sticking to it and changing it up in some way every so often, and not letting a failure or two or thre get you off track. Be sure to check in, ESPECIALLY if you are finding yourself not sticking to your plan. We CAN help!

Hi All, I am looking for a fitness routine that works with my crazy life and walking is so accessible and available! I am a confirmed human potato, thinking that getting up and sitting on the couch instead of napping is a fitness routine! But today I am committing to three walks of thirty minutes a week, to start.

Slow and steady will still get me to my goal.

Returning Member~ Taking My Life Back...

My name is Vicki and I'm 56 years old. I've stepped off the scale and will not be using one any more to determine how I'm doing. My goal for 2013 will be to drop inches and to get to the point where I have more energy and hopefully get off blood pressure pills.
I've been struggling with this for a long time. Scale watching has done nothing but make me feel bad about myself and I've actually gotten bigger. So it's time to turn things around and do things my way and let go of the dieting mentality and get heathier both in body and in spirit.

Hello everyone,
I just joined this team; I'm currently walking a 5K three times a weeks and I'm very excited to finally figure out that simply walking is the exercise I've been struggling to find. Less strain on my knees, start and stop at my house so no gym to join or have monthly fees. My shower is not someone elses shower. Don't have to drive to get to a location to exercise. No equipment to purchase (shoes need to be purchased no matter what I'm doing so they don't count.)
Good luck everyone, I've got 45 lbs to drop (current 210 looking for 165)

Welcome Philoforest! Wow 10,000 steps is about 5 miles - good luck and God bless with that.
Healthy choices, etc. is the best way to go - recently having to "give up" wheat, lettuce, nuts and some fruit has changed the way I look at food, which is good! Hope you will find this team a help! emoticon

Welcome Tea and Gini! It's really cool that we can connect with people from just about everywhere! I'm Barb and live in Telford TN, a transplant from Conn. Anyway, I have a track right across the street from my house so there's no excuse for me not walking! I try to do 3+ miles per day but that doesn't always happen. I'm also tracking my food and trying to stay in the calorie range for losing. I have always had environmental allergies but just found out I am also allergic to wheat, lettuce, potatoes, nuts and some fruits. It certainly has put me in a spin but I'm learning to cope:) Blessings on everyone's walking emoticon

Hello All, i'm Tea. I've been away from Spark for almost 6 months now, and gained back the little bit of weight i had lost while i was away. I quit because was fed up with the dieting and the tedious gym machines. My daughter started kindergarten this month, and since her school is close by, i decided we should try walking to school, and i found that i enjoy it!! I tried taking my dog out for a walk (duh, right?) and i really enjoyed that too.

I finally found a form of exercise that i truly like, something i look forward to, and the best part is it doesn't hurt knees! So i've decided to focus on walking for now - getting my diet into shape will have to come later. My goal is to walk 25 miles a week. I've been walking twice a day at minimum, for two weeks now and i average about 3 miles a day.
Anyway, i thought this would be the perfect Team for me. So, hello (and sorry for being so long-winded)!

My name is Annie and this time around I have gotten my daughter to do this with me.

Since she is in with me I can not Fail, so this time around we are doing it right.

Hi

I was lucky enough to reach my target weight at the beginning of the year and am working at staying there.

Most of my walking is what I think of as practical. I try to walk 30-40 minutes a day, but that's usually a cumulative total rather than done all in one go. As I don't have a car I mostly use the bus, and I've got into the habit of hopping off a few stops early or catching the bus a few stops further on to get some walking in.

Hi everyone! My name is Lisa and I've been on Spark since February......I've lost 38 pounds total and am looking for more inspiration.....I am an avid treadmill walker.....5 or 6 days per week I do between 1.25 or 1.5 miles per day......depending on how much time I have in the morning before work.....

I've been at a plateau with my weight for almost 4 weeks now and am so anxious to bust through it!

I am aiming to get fitter and healthier, to eat sensibly and of course, to lose weight…
I always loved walking but lately I found myself avoiding it due the weather (I live in Scotland).
Few months ago I bought a treadmill ...so no excuses for not walking…
Since joining SP I am walking (4mph) for 20-30 minutes a day.
Although enjoying it I find it hard to motivate myself…

Name is james and I have been walking to lose weight since May 29 of this year. I have had some medical issues in the past and am looking to put them behind me as I improve on my health and wellness. Hi all! TJ here, walking for health and sanity in a suburb near Chicago. Although I have a boring treadmill at home, I'd rather be outside. I am a petite girl, who's looking a little more plump these days. So, I am amping my walking up a notch. I also purchased a bike so I can spice my routine up, cause I lose interest fast. My goal is to be able to do something everyday, even if it means squeezing a small walk during my lunch hour along the lake. Keep up the good work walkers!

Hi Everyone, I just joined this team. I have been walking to help with my weight loss. I have a foot injury so I'm limited to have fast I can walk. I was trying to do two miles a day. I would do one mile before work,as I carpool and arrive early and another mile during lunch time. I use the Nike+GPS app on my phone to let me know when I do a mile. I have had a set back though the foot doctor told me I was walking too much and it wasn't helping my foot heal, so... now I will be getting new sneakers and slowly easing back into walking. Any tips or advice are welcome! emoticon

Hello all. I've been a SP member for a little over a month and I just found this group. Walking is the only exercise I can do (due to an injury) besides a few cafeully selected strength exercises. I have been walking twice a day now, minimum of 30 minutes each since before I started on SP. I would be interested in hearing what others are doing to torch those calories while they are walking.

Hi I am Cheri and I am a 34 year old Stay at home mom. I love to walk especially when the weather is nice . I love walking with our dog or my daughter in her stroller . Walking is my exercise of choice because it is easy, inexpensive and fun.

Hello everyone. Felt like walking in place inside and put in 20 mins on that along with other exercises I could do. Walking is the simplest thing and I need to build back up my stamina that is for sure and get my feet toughened up. So, sort of restarting things again and wanted to do a walking support group, which this is. Glad that includes our improved park in this tiny town I live in . Its nice for starting out again. I have fibro and finding some good shoes I have to order when I can save for them was a challenge. Walking in hot weather on the route roads around here can be terrible when you have fibro pain in the soles of your feet. So , working slowly now to re-activate my walking skills. Ultimate goal is being able to walk 8 miles + by end of summer again.

It was raining outside all day today and still cool out here in the Northeastern upats

Thought I'd better introduce myself, for those that don't know me.
I'm Vicki and I live in Florida.
I'm working towards making the healthiest choices I can when it comes to taking care of myself.
I want to make exercise a top priority as I have a couple of health issues that exercise would improve. Also it would definately give me more energy.
I am basically trying to keep all my nutritional numbers within a set goal I think will work for me. It's not strictly any one specific program. If I had to push it, I'd be more inclined to say it's a lower calorie plan.
I'm working to lose about 100 lbs but have no set time to lose it in. I'd love to lose it over the next couple of years, but I tend to be a very slow loser. So I'll take it one pound at a time.

hi, my name is Joy and I have just had minor surgery. I want to start walking and I have been given the all clear by my doctor to do so. I want to walk to loose weight, to tone and to be healthy and flexible.
I am 47 years and 233 pounds approximately 5 ft 2.

Hi I'm Diane. I've been on SP for over 2 years and lost 80 lbs. My main exercise is walking, mostly at work on breaks instead of sitting and eating. I do eat, but I can fit in 2-3 miles if I walk fast.
I have 2 daughters on SP, Frecks96 is the motivation for both of us, she's lost 65 and runs half marathons. Haddiego just had a baby 5 weeks ago and is just getting back into it. She didn't gain too much during the pregnancy, so she's ahead of the game.
I'm 60, work in a hospital lab, do Girl Scouts every week, and enjoy rubber stamping. I live in upstate NY...not to be confused with the big apple....we are much more rural, although I do live in a small city.

I'm here because walking is low-impact, and low-impact I can do! I've gone on several good walks this week since joining SparkPeople, and I've also noticed that I'm sleeping a lot better on nights that I've walked. Walking is great!

Hi. I'm the latest new kid on the block here. I LOVE the idea of a virtual walk. It makes it more challenging, and I need to have goals to work towards. I decided that I was going to walk the Pacific Coast Trail, which runs along the western coast of the US, from Mexico to Canada. I've been keeping track of my hiking miles since the start of this year, so I figured they'd count. (I haven't kept track of daily walking, but have a pedometer so I think I will now.)

My trip so far...I've left the Mexican border and headed north. I'm now less than a mile from the Laguna Campground waypoint. Only 2691.3 miles to go! This could take a while. emoticon

I'll basically be doing a low fat plan because I feel it's the healthiest way to eat. I want to incorporate a lot more veggies and fruits into my food plan and a lot less red meats and oils as they don't agree with me very much. I don't consider this a diet since this will be the way I eat from now on.

Hi Team!
I've been on Spark for 2 years now, I managed to get to around 70lbs lost, but have gained a little back and I'm now around 55lbs lost. I've been slacking a little lately and have been thinking about how to get back on track. I did a lot of walking and cycling over the summer last year, which was when I got to my lowest weight, so I figured walking would be a good way to hopefully get the rest of this weight off.

I would like to lose another 40lbs or so, with my main goal being to drop a dress size by this summer at least. I am refusing to have a fat summer!

I will be logging my minutes for the most part.

Flo, 49 but june 50 emoticon feel 20 [lol]
walk 45 mins a day 5 days a week, then weekends we walk parks trails etc

3 surgeries in the last 10 months, not aloud to lift anything ever/ so walk only

but I love to so off I go, gained weight from not moving but I am doing good now

with a little help from my friends and my faith I can do it. hope everyone feels the same!

Hi! My name is Erika. I have been coming to SP for a couple years now but as usual I would never finish what I started. I let myself get more involved in what my kids and DH needed instead of what I needed. I started working for my health on January 1, 2012 and 28 days later I am still going strong!
