I would really recommend hitting your library to pick up a copy of the book so you can understand it.

On phase 1, it is purely a water weight loss and detoxing from sugars and processed carbs. So how much is lost depends on the person and the amount they have to lose to begin with. If you have been dieting prior to starting phase 1, then you will not see the water weight loss since you probably already have lost that.

That said phase 1 can be 3 pounds to 10 pounds - phase 2 is really the point where you lose the bulk of your weight.

Like you said, everyone is going to be different. Typically if you have a lot of weight to lose and are new to eating healthy, you'll have a bigger weight loss in Phase 1. If you don't have a lot to lose or have already lost some through another program, you may not lose as much during Phase 1. Phase 2 should be a healthy rate of 1-2 pounds per week.

HI all
I am new to South beach diet

I have lost 67 lb on sp just counting calories but i am stuck for about 8 mts now nothing seem to work
i have been looking on all the diet here.
I did buy a bood on South beach diet but lean it to a friend and never got it back .
i was looking on Phase one on here , and i know i could do this, but was just wondering if it would work for me.
i did Kimkim for 1 wks and lost 10 lbs but 1 week after when i went back to countring caloreis i gain it all back , so l guess it was only water loss.
On phase one how much do you lose? and on phase 2 . Know i do know everybody is different but just an idea how does it work would be nice to know.

It is common to eat a fair amount of cheese in phase 1 but yes it can slow you down so you might want to limit it to 2 meals/snacks versus every meal if you want to see. It is good you are counting out the pistachios - usually the nuts equals to 1 ounce or less for the tracker.

I plan out my meals on the tracker every day so I can adjust my needs accordingly.

I have been eating only 30 pistachios as a snack once a day. The only way I could find to log them on here was by the cup, so I guesstimated that 30 is probably pretty close to 1/4 cup. When I am using cheese it it usually only 1/4 cup, and it is fat free, this could still be a problem? I am hoping to take my measurements tonight, but I'm not sure I have a tape measure around the house. Thanks for the support!

Good advice all around. One thing I did for the first few weeks was sit down every Sunday evening and write out meal plans so I knew I was getting the right amounts and had the right groceries on hand. After that it became pretty natural. I was very fortunate that I lost every week. I started in January 07. It may have only been a half pound for a week or two but it was the right direction. Good luck!!

Make sure you are getting in your 4 1/2 cups of veggies every day. Watch your cheese and nut intake since these can slow your weight loss down. Pistachios are limited to 30 per day ( nuts are limited to one serving per day). I don't see any significant dairy intake (besides sour cream) so make sure you get some in (2 cups per day). Your total calories are a bit low which means your metabolism could be stalled out. You might want to vary your calories a bit: go higher one day (ie the days you work out for example) and then follow by a couple lower days - working your calorie range (not sure what yours is but mine is 1200 - 1500 so I eat usually between 1100 and 1400). Also eating every 3 hours will keep the metabolism stimulated.

If you have come to South Beach via another diet, you may not see a significant phase 1 weight loss. Phase 1 is basically detoxing and water weight loss. I wouldn't panic yet on no scale movement - I would also make sure you have taken your measurements. Sometimes you may see more of a tape measure victory versus scale.

Hang in there!

It definitely helps to read the book. As for not seeing any weight loss yet, I wouldn't worry about that - it's only been 3 days. Stay off the scale for a week, and then weigh. I'm not sure about the not being hungry - that's never really been a problem for me. Today's my third day on Phase 1 also (I recommitted - AGAIN!). Just make sure you're eating the right foods (from the Phase 1 food to enjoy list), eat your meals and your snacks. The only advice I have to offer other than read the book is to plan ahead and keep SBD friendly snacks on hand.

Hello all! My boyfriend and I just started the SBD on Tuesday, after a week of just following the spark points program, so today is day 3!!! I'm a bit worried that we are doing something wrong as I have not noticed any weight loss and I am not hungry...so not hungry in fact, that I had to FORCE myself to eat more than a few bites of dinner last night! I REALLY want this to work and I am willing to give it my all, I just want to be sure that I am doing things right. Any advice would be so appreciated!
