Thank you so much for your reply. I have lost 6 pounds so far on Phase 1, which I know is mostly water weight, but I'm getting in a little bit of walking, crunches, and push ups (I have very little upper body strength).
Thanks!

The salad sounds healthy. A serving of beans is 1/2 cup but you can have more if you want them. If you consumed an entire can you would be consuming around 350 - 360 calories for some brands with just the beans. That is manageable. My concern would be the salt so I would recommend the reduced sodium garbanzos. And if you don't use the liquid for the salad you can always drain and rinse the beans and further reduce the sodium.

Eggs are not restricted on the South Beach Diet. Most of the cholesterol in your body is manufactured by it and only about 15% -20% or so comes from foods. Cholesterol is actually not as good a marker for heart disease as triglycerides are and what is really important is your cholesterol ratio. So while my cholesterol is a little my HDL is also high and my ratio is low so I have minimal risk of heart disease. As carbs go down it is natural for fat and protein to go up. Like you said, a dozen eggs is too much but you can enjoy them in moderation.

Thank you all for the welcome!
I think you're right about the gluten -- no big tummy troubles since I restarted SBD.
I'd like to run a couple of ideas past those of you who have been on the diet a while. I have read the book more than once, and practically memorized the list of yes/no/sometimes kinds of foods. But I have a couple of recipe questions:

I make a killer chickpea salad with cucumbers, reduced fat feta, tomatoes, onions, fresh herbs, and balsamic vinegar. I am in love with it... it's my current favorite thing to make/eat. Does that sound healthy enough to enjoy often? I was wondering about the legume/bean thing... They are encouraged, but I could eat a whole can of them in this salad and not think twice.

I also have decided my favorite way to eat eggs is deviled with a dill pickle, a sugar free bread n butter pickle, some onion, and mustard. I know eggs are not restricted, but it still seems wrong to have something this enjoyable as often as I want. I'm not talking about eating a whole dozen eggs or anything, but I was wondering about the fat and cholesterol.

I'm not having any trouble with Phase 1, but I'm trying to change things up to not be boring.

Thank you!

Ditto on the IBS front - I have had one attack since I started SB (6 years ago).

I'm a former sufferedr of IBS too and it went into remission when I cut out most gluten. You might consider Dr. A's new gluten free book as it might be a huge benefit to you.

Welcome to the team!

I've been on Spark since 2009 (on again, off again), and I've used SB before. My mom was very into fad dieting and Weight Watchers when I was little, so I have experience with SlimFast, Weight Watchers, cabbage soup, you name it.
I've done SBD before. I had a really hard time with Phase 1 last time, but I'm having less trouble with it this time. I'm on day 6, and not really having a problem.
I use the summer as my healthy time because during the school year, I have major eating problems. I'm a teacher, but I have IBS-type issues, so I can't eat much during the day. Then I get home and snarf down anything I can get my grubby little paws on. So during the summer, I have the leisure to eat whenever I feel hungry, all day long. I also have the time & desire to work out.
I'm planning an overnight trip at the end of this week to take my comprehensive exams for my master's degree in counseling psychology. I have my menu all planned out, a fridge & micro at the hotel, and I'm all set!
