I'm pretty picky so the meal plans didn't work for me either. I can't do V8 at all.

Morticia,
Boy do I know that stress has an impact on health, learned the hard way. I am taking yoga to help with that. Thanks for the info on the meal plans. I thought I would be able to plan my own but wasn't sure.

I went into menopause at age 46 on the day my mother died. For the first time in my life I discovered fast food and other poor dietary habits like eating large quantities of junk food and daily consumption of candy. I gained weight and became obese. Stress and grief can really wreak your health. I am sorry for both of your losses.

You do not have to follow the meal plans. They are just suggestions as some people have difficulty figuring out what a normal day's menu would look like.

Hello everyone. Had doctor's visit yesterday and was told that I am on my way to being a diabetic. His suggestion was "lose the weight" and the way to do it was following the south beach diet, so here I am. I lost over 70lbs about 2 years ago then because of some stressors, illnesses, and other things I stopped exercising, eating properly and put almost all the weight back on. I am getting my life back on track and need to work on my health. My mom was a diabetic and lost her battle to breast cancer all most 6 months ago. I do not want to go down the same road as her. I bought the book and started reading. I do have a question -- the book has a suggested meal plan, do I have to follow that or can I just pick and choose from the list of approved foods? I'm excited about beginning but know I have to take it slow and get used to the changes (no bread will be the most difficult for me).
Thanks for listening. Mary

Welcome and hello. I can relate to your post - I also put on grief weight after losing my mom in December of 2010. It's the hardest thing I've ever lived through! My sympathies to you. AND good luck on the beach. :)

Hello and welcome! It sounds like you've had a LOT of upheaval to deal with. I was in a similar situation nearly five years ago - too many changes all at once and I stopped paying attention to my body (then...hello, 30 lbs!!). There's plenty of great support in this team. Best of luck with your goals!

Hello! I joined this team a little over a week ago and started phase 1 today. I did South beach a few years ago and had success so I'm hoping to give it a go and find success once again. I had lost about 90 lbs at one point, but over the past 2 years have put 20 of those back on. I moved to MI from VT to be with my fiance, then we got married this past summer, then my mom passed away and I turned to food this fall, then the holidays happened, and I've just been going out of control with one excuse or another. It's time to get back on track and get back on the losing track again and I think this is just what I need to motivate me! I'm hoping with the help and support on this team I can finally meet my goals and lose these last, stubborn, 35 lbs!

Jenny
