What is Phase 1.5? I tend to go too fast into Phase 2, so this may be what I need!

South Beach is a great diet. You give up very little and eat healthy food.

-American consumers have no problem with carcinogens, but they will not purchase any product, including floor wax, that has fat in it. - Dave Barry
-My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four; unless there are three other people. - Orson Welles
-The food here is terrible, and the portions are too small. - Woody Allen

Congratulations to everyone.. you are all doing so well. It helps to see that it can work. At the end of Nov/09, I was given the choice,- lose some weight or increase my meds.. SOOOO.. DH & I started the SB eating plan that week. He has lost 25 lbs and I'm down by 29 so far... I have a ways to go but the scale seems to be slowly moving in the right direction. We are both eating and feeling healthier, and for the first time I am actually enjoying a diet.
Unbelievable! It still amazes me! emoticon emoticon

Phase 1 is low carb but Phase 2 is not. Go slow with the transition between the phases -- many people prefer an extended transition we call Phase 1.5 -- and learn which carbs are good FOR YOU and which ones trigger hunger, cravings or stalled weight loss. You can do it!

Tomorrow is my weekly weigh-in and the start of Phase 1.5. Two weeks on Phase 1 has gone by pretty easily. I have felt really physically tired at times but eating some protein at those moments actually did the trick. What a surprise! Glad I found this team. I was a little concerned that the Spark Carb Police might come after me for not hitting the "recommended #" on the nutrition tracker.

Congrats to everyone on your weight loss! I have been on Phase 1 for 4 days and I have already lost 5 lbs! What I like the most is that I'm not craving sugar like I used to! I don't even feel like I'm dieting because the food is so delicious! I like getting creative with the recipes and I just got back from the gym! I am physically sore but feeling really great!

I'm worth it!!!

I did it! I am on day 3 and I went to my family's for dinner - we had my mother's amazing chocolate cake for dessert....and I didn't have any! This is unheard of- but you know...it really was okay. I had a small square of sugarfree chocolate when I got home so I wouldn't feel deprived!

I am feeling really proud of myself right now!!!!!!!! Had to share!

Tomorrow I go to a charity event- I will have one glass of wine- and will put some squares of sugar free chocolate in my bag. Just one cheat...but better than dessert- which would send me into a tailspin!!

Hola' My name is Shannon and I am new to this group. I have been on the South Beach diet now for about 1 year and 6 months. I love the diet and how it makes me feel, and I especially love that combined with my healthy excercise program I'm proud to say that this chica has lost over 45lbs. so far. I started trying to lose weight in November of 07 and found that exercising wasn't enough, I had to change my lifestyle and my eating habits. Anyway, I'm still on my way to my goal but I'm getting close, less than 10lbs. at this point. Check out my page if you want to see some of the pics when I was bigger, I don't like having them as a profile pic because that was the old me but I keep them in the gallery to remember how hard it was to get where I am today and never become unhealthy like that again. I'm happy to be here and I hope joining this group will encourage me to stay active and motivate me to try new South Beach meals. emoticon

Hello! I thought I'd share my success on SB, hoping to encourage others who are already on the beach or thinking about giving it a try. I weighed 345 lbs Jan 5th this year (2009) and wore size 5x tops. Today, Sept 22, I bought a size 1x coat and weighed 245 this morning. My story is on my SparkPage blog if you'd like to read how I use SB and common sense (which is what SB is really all about!) to finally, at last, get healthy. It truly IS about lifestyle changes!

Hi Everyone!

I am new to this site. I have a membership on the SB site and it will expire soon so here I am. I have heard wonderful things about sparkpeople. Anyway, My name is Angela, I started SB Feb of 09' and have lost 47 lbs so far and 28 inches overall. I started this thing weighing in at 215 and am now at 167. I just hit a wonderful goal of moving out of the obese category and into the overweight category on my BMI. I am now motivated more than ever to get to the healthy category.

SB definitely works if you work it. It is just a matter of staying focused and remembering why you started this journey to begin with. You will have ups and downs as we all do, but remembering that you didn't gain weight overnight and it won't come off overnight either helps. Also found that preparation is definitely the key. You have to make sure you prepare for snacks on hand that are SB friendly and also keeping a food log daily has helped me to stay in check and make sure I am eating what I am supposed to.

The SB boards have definitely been my lifeline to keep me on the right path. They help to keep me honest on my Monday weigh ins and also provide support when I am on the right path. I am hoping to find the same thing here.

Have a Beachy Day!
Angela

Trish, I found reading "THE SOUTH BEACH HEART HEALTH PROGRAM" by Arthur Agatston, M.D. to be SO helpful. When I first saw the SBD Book in the bookstore I saw all the fancy recipes and was "no way" since I would never cook like that, but then I went back and found his information on Metabolic Syndrome and realized what an important book it was on health. This second book is even better since it really addresses heart disease prevention.
Glad you and your husband turned things around. Only TWELVE percent of people change their live after such an event.

I tried South Beach about 5 years ago, and fell off the wagon. I have hypothroid and just felt like nothing worked etc..poor me.
June 23,09 my husband ended up in the ER, presenting with a heart attack 43 yr. After 2 stints, the cardiologist came spoke to me and said " he has lipid disorder, his cholesterol was over 700 (not a misprint) if he does not change his life drastically I will see him again and he will have a very short life" WOW..He suggested South Beach and so that is what we did, within 6 weeks his cholesterol went down to 200. It has been a little over a year and it is now 156. Dr. is amazed. I on that very day, made a commitment to my husband, I will do this with you,we will beat this. I was 170 lbs. today I am 138 and I feel good. I will lose more but now not so worried about it..I want to be healthy and tone up, but I am comfortable where I am now. The difference...I made a commitment to make a life change and we did. I totally believe in the South Beach program, I seen it work.

Hello. I am new to the team. I have done the South Beach Diet before and I lost 10 pounds the first week and a half. I was so excited that I fell off the wagon. Well, I am here to say that I am jumping back on the wagon. I gained that 10 pounds back and was so depressed over it that I didn't even try to lose it again. That is not going to happen this time.

My "story" is on my sparkpage. I started SB 1/1/2007 and have never looked back!

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. Agatha Christie

I lost about 50 pounds most of it while following SB principles. I have kept it off since Jan 2008 when I started on the beach. I would like to lose another 10 pounds but am pretty happy where I am now so I don't work at it so hard now. I have found it easy to maintain the loss - this is the longest I have ever gone with a weight loss without regaining. The system works if you use it!

I'm one of those yo-yo dieters. I have been on Spark since January of 2007. I originally joined to lose at least 10 pounds before my daughter's wedding in March of 2007. I lost the 10 pounds with the calorie counting, and then I was kind of stuck there. Then when the holidays came around, I gained 5 pounds. Then I joined this team, and started following the SB plan. I lost the 5 pounds and then an additional 5 pounds. Not much weight, but I think the success that I feel I have is that I am living a healthier lifestyle. I have learned what I can and cannot eat to maintain or lose.

Thank you. Leangirl. I'm happy with the weight loss but know I could have done better.

Ok....I'll jump in here.

Since beginning on SB in August of last year, I've lost only a little over thirty pounds. This was after losing around thirty pounds by simply counting calories.

I came to SB to get a bit more control because I felt like I was fumbling and didn't have much of a clue what I should and should not eat in order to be more more consistant.

Now, mind you..I"m the world's slowest loser. There are some medical reasons for this, but I won't go into that.

The point is...SB has made it much easier to stay on track than the simple calorie counting. Life without those awful cravings and feelings of deprivation is wonderful, indeed. No desperate choices to make, because of the variety we can have. Why feel deprived when we can have almost anything we want within reason?

My biggest regret is that I didn't "get it" years ago. Due to this, new medical problems have cropped up that probably wouldn't have had I got with the program years ago.

Although my weight loss is almost nil now, I continue on SB because I KNOW it's about the healthiest thing I can do for myself. If more wieght creeps off..that's GREAT, but if it doesn't, I still know that I"m doing the best I can for myself now, rather than digging my grave with my fork.

SB rocks!!

I have lost 44.5 pounds since December. But the best part is my energy level- no more midday slumps and no more cravings. And since I have been eating all these vegetables and now fruits, I have not had a cold since I started SB. I am a walking vitamin machine.

Actually my success is not that much to brag about. I've lost 43 pounds and have a long way to go but I will brag on my son. It was his idea to do the South Beach Diet.

Since July 23 of last year he has lost 115 pounds.
