Hi There! Welcome back to Spark People! Carbs (& Sugars) are what really affect your blood sugars! I was newly diagnosed back on Nov. 1st. I just had my first A1C test done since I was diagnosed and it was 6.3. I want to (and need to) get it lower yet. I am not on any medication at this time, just with diet and exercise, trying to bring it down....... and KEEP it DOWN!!! Hopefully you can see a dietian, and they will help you learn what you should be eating and how to eat correctly. I have also joined my local weight watchers (again) to help me get going down the right path to weight loss!!!! Exercise....even if it is just walking...any exercise you enjoy...dancing, zumba, exercise DVD's.... anything! Get active, as much as you can...start out slowly one or two days a week, and build up to more time and more days. Eat more fruits and veggies, and lean protein.
Good Luck!! I am heading back to work on Monday, I have been off work for 6 weeks...had surgery. I won't be on spark people as much as I was....but, I wish you the best of luck!!! Hang in there.... You can do it!!!!
SDWG :)

Hey y'all.

I am new to this group, haven't been on spark people in over a year, & am going in for some final testing to determine wether or not I'm diabetic tomorrow. This is a whole new playing field for me, so I'm nervous about it. I have no idea how to eat for a diabetic, all I know is low sugar but how low is too low? Got to get started somewhere, so here I am. Feel free to add me or give me any advice, solicited or non.

You can't do anything good for yourself until you LOVE yourself. Doing things out of self loathing will not reap a good result.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

"Whenever you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place"
