Hi all. I'm not new to Sparkpeople but am new to this group. I joined Sparkpeople a few years back lost about 15 lbs, then quit checking in and quit trying and am now over 200 lbs.
I work in a medical clinic and thought perhaps I was getting a UTI so a nurse did a stick test on a sample of my urine. The little tab that measures glucose colored immediately and turned very dark. She put the test strip in a machine and no infection but my glucose came back at 595. She did a finger stick to measure my A1c and it measured at 9.5. One of the perks of working there is not having to wait a week or so for the results thank goodness. Though my personal doctor isn't with this clinic everyone felt it important to see a doctor immediately. The doctor checked me over and since Diabetes runs in my family and I'm overweight she said it's a pretty good bet it's Diabetes. ( I know, duh, right?)
She gave me a shot of insulin and then checked me 30 min later. My B/S had dropped to 463. She sent me home at the end of the day with a meter and strips and instructions.
I've been good about the metering since then and have recorded every number. I was given a shot of Victoza at 0.6 while at work yesterday, and to my surprise I was able to inject myself again this morning.
I have an appointment to see my regular doctor on Monday. I have a ton of questions but won't put them here in this post as this one is long enough already. Ha!
