Hi, my name is Shannon. I was diagnosed with diabetes January 11, 2011. I am taking metformin and glyburide, as well as changing my eating and fitness habits. A cousin of mine died a little over a year ago from diabetes, and my aunt has lost her leg. I have needed for years to change how I eat, and to get active, but always felt I could change things later. As I near the big 4-0 I find myself feeling better than I have in a long time. I may not have changed things as much as I have, but the Dr. suggested needles and insulin and I panicked. Since my diagnosis, I have lost 25 pounds, with the help of the sparkspeople app. 25 pounds may not sound like a lot, but my starting weight was 347. Sparkspeople has made self accountability not only easy, but possible. I now track everything that goes in my mouth. I also have Fibromyalgia and the loss of weight, not matter how small, has made it less painful to be active.

I can do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
