Hello everyone, my name is Shannon. I found out at the start of my husband's deployment that I was diabetic. I am here to find support and motivation to take back the control of my health.
When I was diagnosed at a diabetic the doctor had placed me on Metformin 500mg. However within a week of being on this medication I couldn't stay awake for more then 5 minutes at a time and was extremely nauseated. So my doctor had me stop this medication.
Then I was placed on Actos 30mg. After two months my blood sugars were still 230 and up. I was frustrated.
Last month I changed my doctor to someone who I liked a whole lot better. She put me on 5units of Byetta and I was doing great on that for the first 3 weeks. I finally started to feel like myself again and was able to function. However in the 4th week of taking byetta I passed out while cleaning the bathroom during a low blood sugar episode. The doctor told me to let her know if I experienced any more of these episodes and I did. So she had me stop taking the byetta. I go back into see her on Friday and am hoping to find something that will work for me.
Being the only parent (around) to my 8 year old daughter and fighting these extreme blood sugar problems has been very difficult and emotionally exhausting. I am scarred that I will not know and have my sugar crash during the night.
Anyways, that's enough about me. I am here to find support and motivation from others who have or are going through similar things as I am.
