I was told I have symptoms of both type 1 and 2. Right now, I tell people I am type 1.5. I am on insulin.
I see my family doctor on Monday. Plan on seeing an endocrinologist soon. We have a diabetes center nearby. I plan on taking every opportunity available to learn and change my habits. I went to the gym today and was amazed by the change in my blood sugar.
I also found out I was diabetic last year and have spent the past year learning all I can. As Emily said learn all you can both here on Sparks and from your diabetic team with your doctor. I'm lucky my hospital has a regional diabetes team which I can utilize whenever there is a need. (also I work at the hospital). There are many resources online also. Are you type 1 or 2; taking insulin or pills? Good Luck

Larry, glad you are out of the ICU! That had to be a wake up call. I was diagnosed last year. My advice is to ask questions, be involved on the various diabetes team. Some are much more active than others. Use the resources here on Sparks and try to get moving every day. Best wishes on getting and staying healthy!
