Claire, I was diagnosed 3 months ago; also 7.7 H1AC. I just had my first blood test post diagnosis, 6.5! I am not perfect at my food intake, but working on it daily. I think meeting with a dietician really helped me. Get a referral from your doctor to meet with one. My BIGGEST food change is MUCH LESS (if any) pasta, rice, and bread. Added more meats, since I already eat many vegetables and salads. Hope this helps. The first month post diagnosis is a crazy-mind time. Hang in there!
I apologize. I meant to put this in introduce yourself and guess I made a new topic instead sorry.
Hi everyone. My name is Claire. I was just given my diagnosis today (Friday). I am confused. See I have sleep apnea and hypothyroidism. Well between the two I put on a lot of weight this last year. My dr believes if I lose the weight I might go back in the normal ranges. My A1C is 7.7. She did put me on medicine and wants me to try to lose about 15 lbs in the next three months then do a checkup. Well the thing is she didn't mention talking to a dietician. She just said cut out the sugar and starchy stuff...ie whole grain instead of white flour, no adding refine sugar and things like that. So i am kind of confused what to do as far as food. I was just going to go for a type of high fiber / mediterrian style food...more fresh less process. Now I dont know. Should I be here or should I follow what I was going to ie high fiber type ... Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
