Good news, I found a new doctor today, also I lost another 3 lbs, it's been a few months since I've lost any weight. I'm offically under 200lbs now hurray!!!! emoticon . Thanks so much for the support, this has been a trying few weeks. I also was in the hospital with heart problems this week, then I was put on a cholesteral medicine and had a severe allergic reaction, so now I'm on prednisone and an antihistamine for that and the steriod is reeking havack on the blood sugar levels. Overall a pretty crappy few days, but tomorrow looks brighter. Thanks everyone

I also and type II with metformin as my med. Please check in also with diabetes.org to help with your diet to use between now and the time you go see a doctor.
I am so sorry that you have had trouble with your doctor. FotoFish has some excellent suggestions. I would also call your insurance company also and let them know what you told us here about your doctor. They should know that the doctor is substandard and to not recommend them to others.

Once you get a new Doctor, go in and see them right then so you both will be on the same page. Definitely use SparkPeople to learn more about your diet and disease. I think most people on this board are members of several diabetes teams. Another good team to join is Managing Diabetes Group! Be sure and add the "!" when doing a search as it is a part of the team name. They have answered several of my questions that I couldn't find elsewhere or needed a quick answer. Please post here or email any of us. We are a very supportive group and we all desire to succeed in the journey we share. Welcome and we hope to hear from you soon.
Hugs,
Becly

Hi DJAYCRC,
I myself am a newly diagnosed Type II diabetic and was started on Metformin. I'm lucky that I work in a hospital setting and we have a diabetic clinic and our hospital has a diabetic program that I can get my meds paid for. If your local hospital has a diabetic clinic or physicians that specialized in diabetes, I would check them out. Our clinic gave me the meter and a month's supplies of testing strips and lancets for free. they are a very good resource to use. They have classes on being a diabetic and how to eat, live, etc. Or your insurance company should be able to help you out also; give them a call and see about referring you to another physician.
If you need anything else, please let me know

Hello everyone, I was getting involved with spark people a few months ago, then got a new job and got crazy busy. Then last week I diagnosed with Type II diabetes when I went in for treatment for a UTI. Things have been a roller coaster since. My glucose is not under control yet and my emotions are all over the place as I try to navigate my way towards understanding the disease. It's not a totally new or a huge surprise since I was gestational diabetic 22 years ago. When I went in for my UTI the doctor tested my blood sugar and my AC1 then casually said "Oh yeah by the way your diabetic, here is a prescription for metformin and I'll see you in two months" then walked out of the room as if she was done. I called her back and started asking questions and insisted she send me to diabetic education, she wasn't even going to get me a monitor until I called back and said I want one. Needless to say I'm looking for a new doctor. Anyone have any advise on how to find a doctor who will be proactive with me.
