My last load of laundry is washing now. My kitchen window has been open now for four days and nights. It is always good having that completed.

I woke tired, but must get things going. Enjoy your Monday.

DH and I are huge basketball fans and we are now watching the first game of The Final Four. Thank goodness, Wichita State Shockers are ahead at the half but only 1 point. It is, as we thought, going to be a close game.

Anyway you look at it, they are all winners to make it to The Final Four.

I bet that was nice getting to know your Mom's family.

I am off to watch the game. Half time over.

I'm sorry to hear that, Sunny. My grandma died of Leukemia when I was three, and my mom had my white cells tested quite a few times in the next few years to make sure I was fine. She got nervous as she got close to her 54th birthday because that is how old Grandma was when she died. Mom turned 67 this year and is still going fine.

I went to college for two years at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. It was a great time getting to know my mom's family, aunts and uncles, because they all lived in that area.

Wow, Kristi, didn't know you liked to go kayaking. Sounds great! I have never been but there is a place in Quincy, Illinois (through the woods and over the river from us) that rents Kayaks so might have to try it this year.

Way to go Swimlover - Congrats on being cancer free! God is good!

Mariean, I didn't know this about your Son. That is amazing.

I lost my Mom to Leukemia in 1985. She was so afraid she had cancer that she wouldn't go to the doctor. When she finally did, she was in stage 4. She did get into remission once but not for very long. Bless her heart. I still miss her so much.

I am a retired preschool teacher and my husband and I go and read and do projects in the preschool class our daughter teaches. Because the children are four and five year olds they keep asking our daughter are your grandparents coming in today? She says no but my parents are! They associate us with their grandparents because of our ages! We enjoy going in a volunteer in the class she teaches during special times of the year.

One think you may or may not know about me is that my Sister (one who had the aneurysm in January) is my twin sister. She is 15 minutes older than I am. When she was born, doctor was so worried about her weight that the nurse attending to my Mom delivered me. Her name was Marilyn and my namesake. My twin's name is Sharilyn.

Just a little FYI!

I just use old candle stubs, and wax that didn't fully burn in a candle. I use pretty jars and also pringles cans to make pillar candles. Usually the wax that I have is already scented. Sometimes I add flower petals, or coffee beans, etc.

Sunny - God gave you other gifts to use for Him right now. If everyone was in the choir, who would listen?

I cut hair. I mostly do my family, but in college I did lots of friends and while my DH was in seminary, I did a lot of friends (cuts and perms) and we did swapping, so no money, but I would trade haircuts for picture frames (one lady had a frame shop). I have cut my DH's hair, and all of our kid's hair, for years. It has saved me a lot of money over the years. One lady at church has me cut her hair, and the last time I did it, we did it in a room after church. While I was doing that, in walked another lady, and now she and her mom have come for haircuts and have scheduled another appointment.
And, I am NOT trained to do this, but my mom had this talent, and my brother, and my oldest son does too. He paid for his wife's engagement ring with money he made cutting hair at college.

In CHRIST I can!

How sweet of him, Kristi!

I am a creature of habit & have my oatmeal every morning. I started eating it to help lower my cholesterol and now, it just doesn't seem like I have had breakfast. I do love grapefruit so thanks - plan to get some this week.

Do have a good day tomorrow. I am going to try to get some Christmas shopping done.

My husband likes to grow flowers and he will pick them for me on his way into the house. Unfortunately, he can only do that for about three months. The last flowers he bought me was a potted orchid. He buys carnations when he buys cut flowers. They are cheap, last about a month, and are my favorite flowers.

I love grapefruit, and will eat it every morning for breakfast for about four months. It went on sale this week, and I buy at least ten at a time. It will be on sale enough that I can buy it and it will last me until March or April. I don't have to share with anyone either because they cannot stand it.

I don't eat any pork - I haven't seen turkey bacon or sausage here. Germans eat a LOT of pork. My family eats pork and is so happy when we have company and they find meat (salami, etc) on the pizza. But I like my veggie pizza. When I was in jr. high, we lived on a farm and when time to butcher the pigs, I tried to get out of eating it any way I could. I remember crying, "I wish I were born a jew!" My family remembers that too. My dad is sometimes beside himself trying to find something for me to eat. He likes to cook and he does a lot of other foods but for some reason it is like there is nothing else to cook when I am there. I actually don't say anything about me not eating pork, I just let the meat pass me by, but last time we were in the States, my brother was making bacon and french toast. My DH walked into the room and said, "my wife will never eat that," and my Dad was there as well. Actually, I try to steer clear of anything smoked, even though I like the taste, it just can't be that healthy.

In CHRIST I can!

I am with you on this Mariean. I grow the most beautiful roses (Mr. Lincoln Roses) plus my Sunflowers. Nothing prettier or means more to me than DH cutting some of my roses and sunflowers then putting them with my favorite wildflower - Queen Anne's Lace. It is lovely!

For the most part, we don't eat pork - no chops, pork steak, or pork roast. We eat Turkey Bacon and Turkey sausage. The only thing we have pork is a Ham Hock in our Ham and Beans and it comes out before we serve the beans.

emoticon on the marathon! I did a half a couple years ago on my bike.

Something you would not know about me is I dislike getting cut flowers as a gift. This was hard for my DH because girls are suppose to like flowers. For years I tried to tell him this in different ways without hurting his feelings. "You didn't have to do that" "Oh, you shouldn't have spent that money on flowers" etc. He never got it until I just came out and said, "I hate getting cut flowers as a gift because they die a few days later and seem like a waste of money." The next time he gave me flowers, he cut them from our lilac tree and handed them to me saying, "They didn't cost anything." emoticon

How wonderful that you play the flute. I have never played an instrument and is probably the reason I am so tone deaf. I sing solo (so low no one can hear me). Hehehe

Mariean, the job I do at the hospital is very different than the one I did when I was employed. I now work as a Family/Doctor Liaison in the ICU two/three Wednesdays a month and then the other Wednesdays, I work as a receptionish in Pain Management. I get to see the teams I worked with and I still feel connected.

I biked a Marathon today. I have been biking 120 minutes and realized that if I just continued on, I could bike it so today,I did just that & met that goal! I biked it in 188 minutes. Woohoo! I am feel so great.

Do have a Wonderful Wednesday. I am off to the hospital tomorrow then to Church for our weekly Chuppers (Church Supper) and Bible Study.

So Mariean, what is your first name? My given name is Marilyn but I go by my nickname, Sunny & DH calls me "honey". emoticon

I have played the flute for 31 years, currently in the church orchestra. The orchestra accompanies the piano on Sunday mornings when my husband is well enough to do song leading. It consists of a flute (me), a violin (Pastor's youngest daughter), and occasionally a trombone (my DD).

DH and I will be married for 20 years next March 1st. We have been together for 25 years next month.

I love all the Js. I have childhood friends that are all Ts, and DD has some friends that are all Ms.

Wow, Sunny - they are probably happy that they get the work for free now!

Kristi - That is sweet! So how long have you been married?

I know I go by Mariean here, (My middle name) but all my siblings names start with "j", my DH's name as well as all our children's names start with "j" and I have one DD, the one who just had a baby, who married a "j" and has now 3 "j's" of her own. Crazy 3 generations of this!

I recently won a T Tapp contest - 1st runner up in my age group in catagory "more to lose". That gave me $150 in T Tapp dollars to use. I bought 3 sets of DVD's with the money. I had them sent to my DD so she can use them first. Sending them oversees would be more expensive and I would probably have to pay customs fees. I lost 24 inches during that 60 day contest. Sounds like a lot but remember they are counting for instance, two inches off of each thigh or 1 inch off each arm - so it adds up. I did lose 7 inches off my waist though. That was amazing. Now if I could just move forward!

...and I so believe that, Mariean that some day I will have more than joyful "noise".
When we went to the Fall Rally this week, I ended up sitting by our Choir director. Why? I didn't sing too loudly but my heart roared. There was a lady leading the singing that just blessed my heart. She was in her 70's and has only been a christian a few years. When she sang, her whole face lit up. Loved it and loved her.

I have no idea what happened to the ornaments we had as kids. I do have one (homemade) from each of the boys. I do a tree where I put small framed photos on it of our family and friends. I call it my Family Tree Tree.

One thing you don't know about me is that I love to fish. My Maternal Grandmother fished and she along with my Mom and Dad taught me to fish. They also taught me that fishing is so much more than just catching fish. Years later, I heard a Bill and Gloria Gaither Song, God Loves to Talks to Little Boys When They're Fishing. You know what, He talks to girls too!!

A Christmas tree ornament that is 111 years old? That is amazing. We have one that is from my DH's childhood that is very fragile - and most of the "snow" is also rubbed off. But we faithfully hang it every year hoping it survives. It is probably 60+ years old. But my DH's dad is with the Lord and my DH's mom has Alzheimer's - so can no longer tell us about it.

Sunny - someday God will give you a voice to join right in with the heavenly choir!

In CHRIST I can!

I have a Christmas tree ornament that will be 111 years old this year. An old-fashioned Teddy bear, named Teddy of course. They weren't cuddly-looking then. Teddy's pretty thin and has scrawny arms and legs. He's glass, very fragile, and his black nose got almost all rubbed off by my Mom as a young girl, because she caressed it so much! He was bought by my great-grandmother's first tree in 1901.
