I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis too. And Lupus, and anti-phosopholipid syndrome, and Raynaud's. Health issues definately are a pain in the you know what and can interfere w/ so much.
I don't know if you have read or were told about clean eating. This is basically eating lean meats, whole grains, fruits and veggies in it's natural state. I try to eat clean most of the time and it has helped me tremendously!! Combining that w/ exercise, I have actually been able to lower my thyroid and blood thinning medication! This is huge for me! I hope this will help you too!
I am going to send you a Spark Mail b/c I would like to try and help.
Hi Christine. I am so sorry you have had such a rough time trying to lose weight. It can be so very difficult for some.
I am curious on what the dietician perscribed for a meal plan. Do you know how many calories? Sometimes calories are too low and do the opposite of what we think they will do.
On your question below... I feel that the BFFM (Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle) is a very sound program. It shows how to eat properly and more naturally to restore insulin and hormone problems. And that program you can do w/ carbs or carb cycle. It may be something to look into. It is slow and steady, but slow and steady wins the race! :)
Let me know if I can help in anyway and feel free to Spark Mail me too!
A thyroid condition (Are you taking meds to correct the problem) can wreak havoc on the body! (Weight gain or loss is common!)
I apologize for coming across blunt in my reply but I do believe that everyone can be successful on ANY diet that they put effort into making a lifestyle! Medical conditions are definitely wrenches in the plan, but once you learn how your body responds to certain the medications you should be aware of how you need to move forward to see results! (Horonal imbalances can also prevent weight loss!)
How much weight have you gained after seeing a nutritionist? That doesn't sound right to me! And doctors can't help either???
Have you ever calorie cycled before?
I would love to help you... And you are right, I don't know you! A little more information is always nice (I would have checked your Sparkpage, had there been one to check!)
I don't know of any carb cycling books, sorry... but I do know of many awesome websites that can help you! Here's one from bodybuilding.com that I really like:
You get OUT of a diet what you put IN to it! So if you are not putting a whole effort in to making your new healthy habits stick, then this carb cycling will be just another "fad diet" that you won't be successful at, and might just make you gain more weight!
I believe it works GREAT, for me! But I've been at it for over a year. When I started, the weight literrally FELL OFF but when I loostened up my strictness, I gained it all back... what are you willing to sacrifice? Carbs aren't easy to give up! And they are EVERYWHERE!
If you have A LOT of weight to lose, I would recommend trying first to eat 6 mini-meals each day, make them all balanced and whole (no processed foods) and go from there. Cutting carbs is in my opinion an extreme method of keeping weight down... and is more for getting rid of those last 10 pounds.
