I love Oxygen magazine and look forward to every issue. A few years ago, I use to get Shape and Fitneess. Then I found Oxygen. They do not measure up to it at all. I also read Hers Muscle & Fitness. Another good "real" fitness magazine.

It has it's moments - better nutrition advice than something like SHAPE - though after a year of getting it, I'm seeing a LOT of the same routines/workouts being recycled.

It is great for inspriation and motivation, though!

I have been stalking this team for the last 2 days! After some chatting with LIVESTRONGH2, I do believe I may give this a whirl. That PB and protein powder thing sounds awesome. I must pick up Oxygen, as well. I hear people talking about it a lot...it must be a pretty informative mag!

Because "conventional wisdom" (which is neither lol!) dictates that we just eat low everything all the time, or keep eating the same amount all the time and you'll lose weight.

Only recently has it become more available, accepted, and understood.

That's another thing I love about carb cycling already is that you can mix it up to work around your schedule. My high days are Tuesday and Saturday, but it's nice knowing I could change it and still stay on track! Why didn't I know about this sooner?

By the way, Kristin - welcome aboard and really, it doesn't take a lot of discipline... but it does take planning.

Be sure to plan your higher carb days to work with YOUR schedule, and your activity. If you normally would have a higher carb day on, say, Saturday, make that your day...

The most successful plans happen because they work WITH your life, not because you worked your life into your plan.

Hugs!

I haven't done the 'no starchy carb' days... I just can't function if I do.

I do limit the grains/breads/starchy veggies most days to the early part of the day.

Oh, and I just read this recipe in fitness magazine.

1 scoop vanilla protein powder in a small bowl.
mix w/ a small amount of water until it's slightly "doughy" (not runny and not too thick).
add 1 tbsp of natural peanut butter and mix with spoon.

Eat up! It was so goood! It tasted like cookie dough batter.

LadyRose- LOL @ "so much food, so little carbs" That cracked me up. I'm doing the carb cycling along with Chalean extreme program. Do you ladies do no carb days as well? They don't seem to bother me like I thought they would. It helps knowing I get carbs tomorrow. emoticon

Actually, if you get plain yogurt and drain it through cheesecloth/a couple coffee filters, it drops the carb content down a lot... closer to that of 'greek' style.

For me, I can't eat CC plain, but my fave way of eating it is:

1/2 c cottage cheese

add:

1/4 c hummus, garlic powder and a little chili seasoning (salt free if you have it) and mix. NUM!

or 2T tomato sauce, 2-3T cheese, italian herbs & nuke for about 30-45 sec till the cheese melts.

or 2T of salsa, 2-3T of cheese, mexican seasoning and nuke till cheese melts. NUM-O

Serve with red peppers, jicima, carrots, crackers, whatever.

Or as a "dessert" take cottage cheese, protein powder, cocoa powder and mix. It's one of those "in a pinch and need chocolate" things. :)

Speaking of cottage cheese, what would be a good equivilent in macros for this? I don't like it, but wonder what is a good substitute w/o all the carbs of yogurt?

Daaaang! that's impressive!

And I know what you mean - I could barely finish my lunch today... so much food, so little "carbs". LOL!

I've discovered way too many ways to enjoy cottage cheese which has totally helped!

Today is officially 1 week under my belt with carb cycling. I am in love with this way of eating. I am doing the rotation of high, low and no carb. I lost 10 FREAKIN POUNDS in week 1. I know it's mostly water....but I haven't lost weight with low calorie diet and exercise in 5 weeks! I am never hungry on carb cycling and I have to force/remind myself to eat. I used to be starving all day long (especially at night) when I was eating low calorie. I don't expect to lose much this week since I lost 10 lbs in 7 days, but I'm going to stick with this. Oh, and thank God I love cottage cheese, or this might not be as easy and it has been.
