Success is different for each person. Some people love numbers and using the nutrition trackers and exercise trackers. I don't. I stumbled on success when I designed a program that fit my personality. I also went through long plateaus and some gains in my four years on SP.
The one thing I could do and did do was to get on the computer and check in every day. I joined a couple of teams that addressed my health issues. I checked out the health and wellness articles. I took the quizzes and I experimented with the trackers and challenges. What I discovered about me was that I hated numbers and trackers. Counting calories was mind numbing.
However, I could do anything for three days. I started with a three day sugar fast. I kept it up in three day cycles. Then, I went wheat free too. Lastly I have started going processed foods free. My diet has continued to get healthier and healthier as a result. The time spent between "junk" food is getting longer and longer. I don't crave the "junk" like I used to. I don't deny myself anything.
The quantity of raw foods just gets larger and the quantity of "special treats" gets smaller. It has been a long process, but I can live with this. I still have 50 more pounds to lose and have been on a long plateau. Most recently, I have discovered juicing as a way to increase nutrient intake and decrease the cravings for junk food. I seem to be moving forward again on my health and wellness journey.
I have a couple of Spark Friends who have had great success counting calories on a weekly basis and they have designed spread sheets for it. Each person is different with different needs. As long as you check in every day for a few minutes and explore the Spark People site, you will start to discover what your needs are and what is the best program for you.
One last thought. I really like the ten minute exercise videos. Most are too energetic for me, but I adapt and just keep moving something for the ten minutes.
