Welcome to the team. You are fortunate if you can build muscle fast. Building muscles is building up your metabolism to burn more calories faster. One thing to watch out for is to make sure you are eating enough calories to support your workouts. Some people make the mistake of restricting their calories to much and do not lose weight even if working out hard.
You can do this. I started out at 286 lbs 1/1/2 years ago. When I joined Spark on 1/1/10 I was at 279 lbs. I am now down to 212 lbs. I take in about 2200 calories on the average while working out and 1730 calories on days I do not work out.
