Like you I found diets don't work. This time around I decided to make a lifestyle change instead and this not only included my eating and exercise but other facets of my life. I found that if I just tried changing one habit at a time and then adding on I was able to lose 30 lbs. and I am finding that I am steadily losing weight just from maintaining my new healthy habits. Don't get me wrong I have my tough days where I revert to my old ways, but they are only a day long not weeks at a time! Good luck!

Welcome to the team. I have been with Spark over a year now and have learned many things about dieting and being healthy. It is a must that I pay close attention to calories, fitness and emotions. They go hand-in hand. I use the "nutrition and Fitness log" provided by Spark. I do not miss a day because it is what keeps me in line. Basically to lose weight it is calories in vs calories expended. You need to have a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. A 3500 calorie deficit = 1 pound of fat. The deficit can be done by eating fewer calories, exercise or a combination of both. I like to eat so I do a lot of exercise to create my deficit.
I know all my numbers, BMI, BMR, MHR, THR etc....it is essential that for me to control what I can. It take commitment and re-educating one self and making the right choices. Replacing bad habits with better habits. I have a limit of 2380 cal/day based on my activity and I am satisfied with 3 meals and a couple of healthy snacks.

Hi, like most of you, I have tried diets often in the past. I even lost 100 pounds, though I gained it back :( The reason is that I am an emotional eater. I eat when bored, stressed, depressed, frustrated or hurt in some way (I have teenagers so this is often). So my goal right now isn't to count calories or portion control. For me it is to reacquaint myself with my stomach and try not to eat unless I am hungry, and to figure out more constructive ways to handle the emotions of life.
