Hello all...I apologize, I haven't been here since the day I joined. Things were just TOO crazy between graduation, family and the rest. I found out I need to have a hysterectomy due to some "female issues" going on, but I'm on public assistance right now and medicaid doesn't want to pay for it. I've appealed the decision and should hear something next week. I haven't been able to start working yet because I'm waiting to see if I'm going to have surgery and require 4-6 weeks for recovery. The treatment facility says they'll wait for me until I'm ready - but I worry about that...I hope they mean it. It's very strange to not have school AND not be working at an internship either. None of the structure of the last four years. My eating habits are all over the place - and I HAVE to get them under control. Most of the time I'm not eating anything until 7pm or later. Just coffee in the morning and lots of water during the day. I'm just not hungry, and then when I do eat, it's because I figure I'd better. Since I joined at the end of May I have lost 4 pounds. I have been walking about 3/4 - 1 mile two or three times a week - we have our daughter's dog, and I like to take him for a walk. Now it's getting hot (upper 80's...seems HOT to me), so I'm going to have to walk either first thing in the morning, or in the evening after it cools down but before it gets dark. I'm very frustrated with myself and life in general and am determined to GET A GRIP!
Aggie, Your story touched me. You are doing the 12th step of a 12 step program. How exciting for you even if you never actually have been involved in a 12 step program.
Your training for the young women you work with will spill over into your life. I taught a Love and Logic for Early Childhood course and the lessons I learned there even helped me in how I responded to my husband.
Last thought....The nutrition tracker really is the best tool for losing weight quickly. It will also track nutritional value, so you will know if you are eating healthy too.
You have a lot on your plate and I don't mean food! Good for you for completing college and having a job waiting for you!! I hope you can make a plan using the tools here such as the nutrition and fitness trackers. The team will help in any way we can.
Welcome to you Aggie, I feel for you with all of your problems with family, health and weight. You probably can't control the family and maybe not the health, but most likely you can control the weight - you have to think of yourself and sometimes anyhow, just put yourself and your eating habits first.
I wish you well on your journey and hope we see you posting here often. I live in the Eugene/Springfield area. Bettyor

...and I live in beautiful Southern Oregon. I found out today that, in addition to fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease, I also have multiple levels of degenerative joint disease - or osteoarthritis. The area the MRI focused on was my cervical spine, but I've also been told I have arthritis in my lumbar spine. I ruptured my L5 Lumbar disc back in 1995 and nearly lost all feeling in my right leg permanently. I can't ignore being overweight any longer. The strain on my joints, bones, and body overall is just too much. I need to lose 70 lbs and I need to do it in a healthy...and highly efficient (i.e., quickly!) way. It's really depressing to me to have these diseases that could eventually put me in a wheel chair. I'm 49 years old, and graduating from college for the first time ever on June 12th. I'll have my AAS degree in Human Services, my focus is on alcohol and drug counseling...I'm getting hired by the residential treatment facility where I've been doing my internship. I am also a recovering alcoholic, with four years of sobriety as of May 14th. Right now I have a great deal of stress in my life - my 22-year-old daughter is on probation for assault (she got in a fight with a girl that turned out to be only 17, so it's felony assault on a minor), and a condition of probation is no alcohol. She's also an alcoholic, so she is currently in jail for the 6th or 7th time for violating probation. When that happens, our 21-month-old grandson comes to live with grama & grampa - and that alone is incredibly difficult for my husband and I. I've been feeling very overwhelmed between the last term of college, my internship/job, the baby, my husband's frustrations over all of it, and the way our daughter treats us when she is, and isn't in jail. She has borderline personality disorder, which is very intense and unpredictable. I feel like it is going to be really hard to lose weight with all the things going on in life right now, but I also can't put it off due to all the health reasons I've mentioned. This site looks promising, and I hope there will be lots of support, understanding, and help. I really want to make progress and see the weight coming off.
