On a serious side this holiday season, I would urge everyone to read the article about David Black in the Bend Bulletin. It is a series of six articles ths week. Sunday's was the start of it.
David Black was given a hugely unjust sentence. I will be writing to Governor K2 to commute this young man's sentence.
Basically, kids were road racing. Two other cars were racing, then Black came along so he and the girl raced a little. Black backed off because his car was no match for the girl's car. She went on ahead, took a 45 mph corner at about 60...flipped and was killed. Black was a mile or two (maybe three) away when that happened. He believed so much in the justice system that he would not do a plea that he was guilty in her death. Found guilty and in prison for 75 months...no possibility of parole.
DA Dugan has been totally inconsistent in how he deals with deadly accidents regarding drugs and alcohol. There was no mention of if he had drugs or alcohol, just that he had a clean record and was NO where in the vacinity when her accident happened. He accepted guilt of racing at one point during the night.
The girl had a drivers license a week or two weeks.
I am in no way associated with David Black. I do not know his family or him, I only know of the horrible hand that Dugan gave him. the judge said he had no choice but to incarcerate him for that long under measure 11.
I will post info later of where to email or write to the governor and/or others. Doty
