Hi again.
Yes I walk downtown and to work so that would be it.
Hope your 5k went well, the weather was good for it.
When I get home at night, it is after 11 and trying to finish my cardio is difficult and I have insomnia so getting up early is hard too. I do usually do get it in but have missed a couple of days here and there.
Anytime you wish a walking partner and if I have the day off let me know.

Thanks so much for the encouragement! I need it!

Anne...we probably have passed each other but I walk later in the day because I don't usually get home from work until 4:30. I tend to stay away from the downtown area because I always bring my dog and people distract her from the walk. I am doing the 5K in town this Saturday. I will not be running but walking with a team from work.

My biggest issue is motivation. I'm so tired and stressed by the end of the day that really all I want to do is relax so I force my self to at least walk for 30-40 minutes. On a really good day I will walk for 90 min. I think if I had a fitness buddy or a partner it might help.I really don't know.

CStream...internally I know 1 lb a week is good. I am also seeing a nutritionist 1 or 2 times a month and she thinks this is good too, but the fact the scale hasn't budged freaks me out. I have 60 more pounds to go! The worst part for me is the fact that I passed over having gastric bypass surgery because I felt I should be able to do this on my own and now I am second guessing that decision. But you are right...I should focus on the positives! I lost 2 pant sizes and no longer breathe heavy when walking up a flight of stairs!

Oh wow, hey great to see another clam town resident. Welcome! I also walk alot, strange how we haven't run into each other. I've been to the gym for physical therapy but can't afford the fees so don't have a membership. I agree with the 1 lb a week. I found myself getting discouraged when I wasn't losing weight but I was measuring myself so that showed the size difference. I started out at 195 lbs and was looking to lose 55 lbs. I am slowly getting there and you can too.

Khall, 1-2 pounds a week is a good rate at which to lose weight. Lose it more quickly and it tends to come back! Don't focus so much on weight loss, focus on how you feel. Do you feel better? Are your clothes a little looser? Really, who cares what the number on the scale says, it is all about being healthy and feeling better! Besides, muscle weighs more than fat does. I haven't lost any weight in the past 2-3 weeks but my pants are looser so I am happy:)

I just joined this week and also live in Claremont! I am a member of the gym here in town but find it very intimidating. I go a few times a week just to take the Zumba classes.

I have been walking around town A LOT! My biggest issue is the fact I have so much weight to lose( 60 more pounds) that I am getting frustrated that I am not losing it quicker and I am quickly losing my motivation. I have completely changed the way and type of foods I eat but I'm only losing about 1 pound a week. I need a support system!

Yes I am finding this place is really a very encouraging place. It has a lot of what I need to stay focused. I just need to make sure I stay on track and hopefully people here reading my posts and friendships I form will help me stay focused.

Nice to see another person nearby working on goals too. Good luck with your own goals and congrats on sticking with it!!

Hi and welcome,
I live in Claremont too and joined just a week or so ago.
I do like to walk, haven't got the money for a gym but am hoping a job will grant me access to their gym. Then I just have to go, which is a hard thing to do. I do alot of exercises from DVD's and those old VCR tapes. This is the longest I have stayed with a program and I usually make up my own. Giving up the Cola is a great idea. Good luck with it.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I am sure I will need it as I move deeper into this. -laughs- I could try to do that or maybe just have a can at lunch instead of in the morning. I drink a ton of water a day (which is good) but I think I still drink too much diet coke. I think limiting it to a can or so is a great idea. Thanks.

As far as where I live, I currently live in Claremont.

Look forward to making new friends and new smaller numbers on the scale and measuring tape.

Amy, welcome! You can do it!!!! I think you will find that this group is supportive and offers great advice. Where in NH do you live? Instead of giving up coke, how about limiting how much you drink to 1-2 cans a day and substitute water the rest of the time? I have a Dr. Pepper addiction. I switched to diet DP and have one can in the morning as I don't drink coffee and one can either at lunch or dinner. The rest of the time, I drink crystal light or water. It works for me.

Hello all. My name is Amy and I am going to give this a try. I feel that everything else has not worked because I am the weak link. My family lives near me but not close enough to help me with my struggles, I don't have friends that live nearby that can walk with me, and I tend to be an indoor nut (versus outdoor). I have bought a walking video to help me begin and I have really been thinking about foods to buy when I go to the grocery. First goal: stop drinking coke. Yup....this is going to be a MOUNTAIN. That is my stress drink. To say I am scared is an understatement but I am tired of hating what I see in the mirror. So today...today that changes.

Wish me luck and I look forward to meeting people here with the same kinds of goals in mind. :-)
