Hi! Been with Spark for 2 months and have lost 12 pounds. Very excited about that, but just found out that my cholesterol was 353 and LDL was 237. It was taken last month, but the clinic I go to was under construction. So just found out. Have to see the doctor next week, want to try to lower the numbers by diet because I already take medicine for Graves Disease and hypertension. Also B/P was 145/95 last month. But the last time I checked it at a machine at the store was 130/85. I've been reading some of the posts on this team and have already learned a lot. Thank you so much! emoticon

Welcome to the team, Loretta and Kari! You may want to look at the posting for the Dash diet and try that, if your doctor approves. The Spark nutrition tracker is a great tool. I was amazed that I was getting more salt and cholesterol in my diet than I thought! Good luck to you both!

Hi there! I am in a similar situation as you. I am 28-years-old mother of two little babies (ages 2 and 1) and I just went to the doc on Friday and was told that my total cholesterol was 265 and my LDL was 188. I could not believe it! I rarely eat fast food and I don't have any family that has high cholesterol. My physician says that there is no way at my age at my size (I need to lose close to 30 pounds or less myself) that my cholesterol issues could not be genetic. I don't know what the deal is but I'm quite nervous about it. My doctor started me on Lipitor and I've also started taking Flaxseed Oil supplements. I have started wearing a pedometer and making sure that I'm getting in 10,000 steps throughout the work day and I've been working out, as much as I can, with my kids in the evening. Let me know if you have any other tips that you feel may be helpful! Good luck to you too!
Kari:)

Hi Just starting the sparks program. I have about 30 lbs to lose and hopefully this will help lower my LDL cholesterol. I have really high cholesterol, but I also have amazing HDL cholesterol. LDL is 174, HDL is 99. My doctors want me to start on statins but am trying some other things first. which are:
Fish Oil, Krill oil, SloNiacin, CoQ10, Low dose bayer aspirin, Cholesterol off (which is plant steros).
I've always had great blood pressure but last week at my doctor appt it was borderline 132/86....which is really high for me. It used to run about 110/80. I have stopped in at stores and used their machines to double check and it is still showing borderline. So here to lower cholesterol, lose weight, eat right and exercise.
Loretta
