Hi, New here and just getting to find my way around. I am on my 6th day, and need to get out more, and exercise. I can see from the charts that I should be taking more cal-mag, so I will take the vitamin pills just to make sure.
I think with the colder weather, I need to find more ways to get fit, and keep my high blood pressure down.
I love the charts for projecting the balance, especially the pie charts!
Good luck! Hopefully you will find support with this team. It is an awesome bunch!

Hi, I am new to SP and to this group. I have both High Blood Pressure and High Cholestrol. I have been on meds for the high blood pressure for years. (8 yrs). it has controlled it until this year. A second blood pressure pill was added. You would have thought that would have woke me up. NO. (I do have a family history on both sides also).
But 6 weeks ago I was told I have high cholestrol. So its time to figure some stuff out. He put me on meds. and new bloodwork was taken Friday.
I just started with SP yesterday. I have been making some progress over the last 6 weeks. We will see what the new bloodwork says. I am eating better and not eating out.
Baby steps. I lost 13 pounbds so far. But I know it is more than just weight.

Hi all! After trying different cholesterol meds for the last 6 years, my doctor and I finally realized that every one of them makes me sick and I can't take them. So, I've been trying supplements, fish oil, olive leaf extract, lemon juice, oat bran and my numbers are still too high. Started using the daily tracker as my doctor was convinced that I must be secretly eating fatty foods and just in denial to my self. Found out I'm taking in about 50mg cholesterol in my diet a day, so much for his theory. I'm hoping, that I can find something that I have missed and it will help lower my numbers.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Keep up the good work there.
I am working on myself, with a similar situation. My "numbers" are a little better than what you posted, but still not where I want them. My doctor recommended I increase my omega 3 fish oil supplement from 2 grams to 3-4 grams. I took 3 grams a day last winter which brought my triglycerides down from 211 to 157 after about one month, along with eliminating office donuts! Since then, I have slipped back to 2 grams of fish oil per day, and my triglycerides are back to 193. Of course there can be other factors as well, but I am going back to 3 grams of fish oil, hoping to get back below 150. Make sure you understand the difference between healthy fats and unhealthy fats. SP has good articles on this for reference. Also, eliminate all hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils from your foods. This should be checked in the ingredients list, not just the "transfat" in the nutrition chart on packages. I like to track my saturated fat on my nutrition log as well as overall fat. Keep in mind that triglycerides are affected by refined carbohydrate intatke as well. Good luck!

Welcome to our team.!!! We have a great support group going here. One of our goals is to track daily cholesterol. Join our goal, track your food on sparkpeople, then when you are done for the day, click the link that breaks it down for you. You will be able to see which meal or food is causing the problem. If you do join our goal, make sure and click the box under other goals so we can cheer you on from our team leader board. Also, A big THANK YOU for serving in the military!!!! You are much appreciated.

Hi all! Val here. I just got the bad news from the doctor yesterday that i need to fix my cholesterol numbers. I've been a Spark People member for 2.5 years and it's helped me with my weight, so I thought I'd search out a team to join for the cholesterol and here I am! I'm 44 and preparing to retire from the military. During my physical the cholesterol numbers were less than stellar. Cholesterol 230, Triglycerides 222, HDL 35 and LDL 151. My doctor said if he were grading me it would be an F! My BP was good (134/79). My family history is good, so it's coming from my diet. I'm to schedule an appt with the nutritionist. In the meantime, does anyone have any recommendations? I have 3 months to try to fix it numbers with my diet. If that doesn't work, than it's meds for me. I would prefer to avoid the meds.
