Hi I'm Donna from Nashville, TN and I have the competition bug. (Sounds like an AA meeting...lol).

I am 48 years young and have 30-35 lbs to lose in around 16 weeks. A lofty goal and if I don't make it then I'm shooting for a show in November...

Hello all! I'm Christie and have been on Spark People for about 2 weeks. I am not sure if I will ever compete in a figure competition but I aspire to look like one. I love the sleek, toned look. I have been up and down weight wise over the years since having my 2 kids and this is the time I get it right. I do cardio 5-6 days a week. I also strength train for 6 days alternating between upper and lower body. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rather than waiting around for someone to fall in love with me I fell in love with myself. Either way, once you're loved your lights are on.-Author Unknown

Thanks for the encouragement! :-)

Love reading about your journeys!

Today is Bowflex lower body workout. And cardio. Only working with 5 or 10 pounds superslow. Today is cellerciser workout = 40 minutes, stationary bike 5 minutes, gazelle 20.

Not sure if posting this here is where I should - let me know if posting somewhere else would be better!

Will report measurements on the other thread I think I saw for that.

Will take suggestions under advisement!! ;-)

Just call me "Mama Turtle!!" LOL!! :-)

Hey all!

Thanks for the invite Wendy. Looks as though I'm a little under 2 years early. ;)

I'm competing in my first figure comp. on Sept. 12. As of this week I've accomplished an 80lb loss with about 40-50 more to go. I'm scared about skin tightening and scar issues, but I've been reassured by many here to keep truckin'. So that's what I'm doin'.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Is there a board for daily check-in/discussion? (Now I'll actually go look for the answer to that question.) emoticon

Connie -

Welcome & Good for you to get going at 56...it's NEVER too late! I, personally, think its great for you to participate on this team. You may not be competing on a stage but you will be competing with yourself every single time you workout on the bowflex - to do better than the last time.

Superslow is a GREAT way to train - it makes sure you're targeting the muscles you are intended to. FYI - I have a client that I recently brought to the free-weight room and she loves it! (she's 62 years young but you would never know it!) She was like a little school girl today when I showed her how to make her calves and triceps pop! She has started to ask about nutrition and eating clean...so like I said - it's NEVER to late.

Please feel free to add me as a friend and visit anytime you'd like.

BTW...I'll be 43 on Sunday and I started training for my 1st comp in December.

Mel

Just read the article about "Kelly"!
Was inspirational - although I'm not planning on competing - I do want to change!

You all - are inspiring as well!

I am 56 yrs old. Just began working on Bowflex and b/c of age and lack of fitness level - am using the superslow method just to prevent injury, particularly at this beginning point - and have been adding several different cardios for variety.

Not really thinking I will have anything to converse about - but wondering if you would mind me "lurking" and gaining motivation and information from you all in your journeys to your goals!?!?

Might periodically have a question that you could give me some thoughts on - but will try to read and get educated before inundating with all kinds of them! LOL! :-)

If you would prefer this to be closed to anyone but serious competitors - would understand!! Smile! There's times for closed groups for the purpose of focus and goals - and times for open!

Thanks for your response - and good luck with all your efforts!!

Connie

Welcome Irngirl.

Triathalons! That's fantastic.

I'm a similar boat - 3 kids, but I have a few p/t jobs. I couldn't afford a trainer either (I am one but it's different). I'm about 2-1/2 weeks out from my first comp and actually just signed on with someone for a GREAT rate to get me through the last couple of weeks. This is where it starts to get tight and I have no idea what to do either.

Feel free to check out some of my blogs to see what I've been going through.

Welcome, again.

Hi Girls. I'm so inspired by the body composition transformations I've seen on SP that I can't believe I'm actually considering if I've got what it takes to compete?? I'm a SAHM to my 3 year old daughter and I have 2 other girls in elementary school.

I'm no stranger to hard work and dedication to achieving a goal as I've completed 2 Ironman distance triathlons. One of which, was in the pouring rain for the entire race.

I just wanted to tell you that you all look great and I'm happy to be here. I look forward to learning as much as I can. I can't imagine where to begin as far as training for a figure competition. I belong to a gym but I can't afford a trainer right now. Not to mention, by the looks of the trainers at my gym I don't think they would really be qualified.

For now, I'm sticking to my fitness and nutrition trackers and staying within range for the 3 weeks I've been on SP. So far I've lost 5.5 lbs.

Hi My name is Rena,
I body build and I guess my before and efter photos say it all..
I just want to look alot better than I did, got over a spinal injury and keep myself medication free with strong muscles..
I thought I looked bad, but pretty girls come up to me at the gym and ask for tips to body build.. Never crossed my mind I looked that good..
So I keep at it and I am no where finished my tranformation.. I lost my weight and kept it off being lean. Just celebrated 2 years on maintenance, so I now want muscle and am getting it with hard work, eating right and dedication..

Thanks for the invite to the team Wendy. I'm 40 years old, married 20 years, mother of two (boy 16, girl 14) and work full time as a network engineer. I'm 5'2", weigh 109 pounds and have been maintaining that weight for 6 months and counting after having lost 80 pounds. I had a doctor do a body fat test and its 18.5%. I'm currently training to run a half marathon on March 28th. I plan to run a couple more races by the end of May then focus on my 6-pack for vacation at the end of July. I never really thought about entering any figure competitions, I just want to rock a bikini and vacation will be like a week long figure competition LOL. I strength train 3 days a week and run the other 3. I love how the strength training has transformed my body.

Hi I am Paula
I am a mom of 2 boys (12 and 7) we live in MD with dh, Ed.
I am currently eating pretty clean (90% compliant--learning that 2 cups of strawberries are less calories than 1 oz pita chips! LOL)
My exercise includes:
running (I am on week 7 of c25k)3 x's week;
incline traing 1 x a week (treadmill goes to 10% incline and I walk 2.5 mph);
weigh training 4 x's a week: push muscles/pull muscles; cardio video 1 or 2 times a week.
I am now 139 lbs; 41 yrsold; 5"2'; and looking to get firm. I wish I could say I wanted to be a competitor==but, joined the team because, I want to look as if I am a competior!
I am looking for a new group of friends that can push/mold me to be the best I can be! I can't wait to hear your tips!

Welcome Audrey and if you dream of doing it, just do it. Colostomy or not there should never be any reason why someone cannot compete. It is something to check out because there should be something that could be done for concealment so that you could compete - never give up on something because there is alittle roadblock. GO WITH YOUR DREAM!!!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I'm 44 and not a competitor but I dream of becoming one. (Kind of hard when one has a colostomy.)

You all are so inspirational... is it okay if I hang out here? I don't think I'd post much but I may have some questions on occasion. I hope to get ideas and motivation from those "in the know!"

So Good Luck to all the competitors. I understand the work and fortitude required to get those bodies in shape and I admire it.

Hi everyone, my name is Tess, I am 38 years old with 2 little boys (2 and 4 years old.) This will be my 2nd season competing, it's hard getting motivated, but hopefully it will stick this time! I'll be blogging my journey on my sparkpage, so drop by and say hi! There's a lot of info there on my prep for the previous contests, too, so hopefully it will be of help to other competitors.

Currently, I'm dieting down (starting over) for a May 2009 competition... might to an April one also if I'm ready, we'll see!

I'm excited to be a part of this group!

Hello everyone. Thank you Helen for inviting me into this group.

My name is Lisa. I'm 39 yrs old for another few weeks. I've been married for 10 years and have a wonderful 5 yr old boy. This is my second year competing and I do enjoy most aspects of it. I'm not sure how long I'll continue living this type of life. I've always been active. I started working out in a gym when I was 18 yrs old but didn't start competing until last year when it was suggested by a friend that we do it together. Right now, I'm in my 3rd month of building. It's been hard but it should be worth it. I'm 10lbs heavier than my normal weight and 15lbs heavier than my competition weight. I plan to do 2 competitions this year. My state show and one national show. North American, Cleveland, OH.

I look forward to getting to know everyone.

I plan on training for another year to get some more muscle then I would like to compete. I competed in bodybuilding when I was 22 (22 years ago). I am new to the figure competition and I am unsure as what differences I need to make in my training and diet for figure as aposed to bodybuilding. I know that muscle striation is not required and muscle size is not as emphasized as bodybuilding). I started lifting weights in May of last year so I have been lifting for 10 months. Before that, I think I lifted last in 1991. So I have been away from lifting for some time and I have lost alot of my size and strength (for that matter). I have training journals from 1991 and I was definitely stronger then. I do keep a written training journal. The fitness journal on sparkpeople shows the exercises I do but not the exact weight and reps. I will be adding a message board for this team where we can post our actual weight training routines. The food journal on sparkpeople has really helped me keep on track. I don't always log everything, but I try. You can access my journal through my sparkpage. I started my weight loss program in March of 2008 and I lost most of my weight in 9 months. Keeping the food diary up is very helpful. It keeps you aware of your eating habits and makes you want to make better choices especially at restaurants. I try to get a calorie count of a restaurant before I go, so I can make an educated and calorie conscious decision. I hope this helps. (By the way, I have sagging skin on my lower abs partly from weight gain and partly because I had twins 10 years ago).

Welcome to the team - I struggle with the sagging skin thing too but an hoping that I'll be able to hide it under my suit at my contest.

Some of it has gotten better with time but I think the older you are the harder it is to go back - the elasticity and all that.

Good luck with your training.

WOW Wendy, you don't look like you have sagging anything LOL
Well, I'm still trying to read all the informtion from the various teams today and look at what team goals everyone has. So I am going to read the rest of this teams info. Am trying to get set up for everything so I can start on Monday. I seem to stalled for some reason so I am going to religiously put my food and exercise in my journal. I'm either eating too much salt, not drinking enough water (very likely), or undereating or overeating. I haven't been keeping a log lately. Just staying away from starchy and sugary carbs. Hopefully by next weigh-in and measurements I will see huge change
So are you getting ready for a competition soon?

I believe to be extra-ordinary I can't do it without God and I have to do what the ordinary person refuses to do.

I also think we can do anything if we are willing to pay the price and take the time that our goal requires. Are you willing to pay the price and spend the time to gain your goal?

Welcome Pandazergz,

I am very pleased that you joined my team. I too have some sagging skin and I am waiting to see if it shrinks otherwise I may look into a tummy tuck. I can hide my sagging skin in some swimsuits but for competition I am afraid it will have to go one way or the other. Good luck in your endeavors!

Hi! I don't know if it is ok for me to be in your group since I am so far from my goal of doing what you are doing. But I was hoping I could learn from you all about what it takes and what to do to be in a figure competition. I am 41 and so I need to read the rest of this site. I am serious though about getting to where you are. It's my goal to compete after I get back from Japan. I am hoping maybe by next summer. I am wondering though if I lose so much weight how to prevent sagging skin if that is possible. Meantime, I posted what I am planning to do starting this Monday. I look forward to encouraging you all as well. GL on your competition goals!

Good morning. My name is Mel. I'm 42 years old, the mother of 3 boys and am scheduled for my first figure competition on April 4 (7-1/2 weeks!). I'm training and working as hard as I can (with 5 jobs and 3 kids that is). I had my bf% done yesterday and it was actually UP to 15% (from 11% in October) so I wasn't happy about that but it's given me some new motivation.

I'm focusing right now on tightening up my eating - it's already pretty clean but I've been letting some sweets creep in over the last couple of weeks (just here and there) but that has to stop now (which is fun with the 4 dozen strawberry cookies I baked yesterday for the kids' valentines' parties
emoticon and were the first thing I smelled when I came downstairs this morning).

I have some new pics on my page (from 2/10) if anyone has an critiques I would welcome them. I'm kinda lost with all of the competition stuff and can't really afford a trainer so I rely heavily on the advice of friends here on SP.

I was thrilled to see this team and am excited to get to know everyone.

Mel

Not sure if I should post this here...but, I weighed in this morning and I'm at 127.6! I'm up over a pound from less than a week ago. Okay...so it's time to work that off and get SERIOUS! I've got my tower of food ready for today and I mean BUSINESS!!

Have a great day team of eating LEAN and CLEAN and blasting the fat!!

Hello all, I quickly jumped in here after being invited by my all-time, inspirational trainer lady, Karen! I'm working towards getting competition ready. Never would I thought a year ago that I would be on a team like this, but here I am!

Hi Wendy and thank you for inviting me to join the team, this will be wonderful.

Current goals for me are my up and coming competition in April so I am on a tight diet and training plan. I am 55 years old and have the mind set that this is probably my last show, although some of my clients are pushing me to do it again at age 60 - who knows, I never say never so we will see how we go when I get that far.

In the meantime this sounds like it should be a great team. As far as expectations - I would like to think that the comraderie of competing and all the grueling work involved (especially tight nutrition) would provide a wonderful network of support in getting thru those tough weeks. Also, keeping a ton of motivation and support going is of course essential.

So I am in - I am preparing and I am ready to be an active participant of the team.
