Hey All,
I'm a 30 year old mother of two, and currently attending CMU for my bachelors, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Business Admin. I lost 30 lbs just under a year ago, but hurt my back and instead of jumping back into things once it was feeling better, I just fell back into bad habits and gained most of the weight back...so here I am today, trying to once again get into a healthier lifestyle so that I can become one healthy mama and a proud role model for my kids. I'm open to making all kinds of new friends on here...the bigger support team, the better! emoticon So feel free to drop a line sometime! Best of Luck to all of us on this journey and reaching our goals! emoticon

Hi everyone!
My name is Jen, I'm 31 years old and working on my nursing degree in Boston. I've been on SP for about 3 years now and I've buoyed up and down in wt over those 3 years. My husband and I are talking about trying for kids in the next year so I really want to buckle down and get it right this time. Any offerings of advice or encouragement will be graciously received and returned. emoticon emoticon

Hello! My name is Anna. I'm 47 and in my 2nd year at WGU Washington. My major is HR Management. I currently work for a health insurance company in customer service and have a daughter at home.

I've been on SP since 2010 when I lost 80lbs but in this sedentary job and after a knee injury I've gained it all back. I'm working in the right direction again - finally!

I'm so glad to have found this team.

Let's do this!

Hello all! My name's Melissa and I just joined this forum. I've been a member of Sparkpeople for a few years, but admittedly have never done anything with it. I have about 40 lbs to lose. I've recently returned to school at the age of 45 to pursue a degree in Film and Digital Media Production. Eating well is definitely a struggle! I would appreciate all of your tips and ideas.
Thank you!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Laura, I am 37 (I'll be 38 next month) and am a Junior at the University of Wisconsin--Madison, majoring in Biological Anthropology. My fella and I spent a number of years living all over the country for his job and just moved back to Madison about 2.5 years ago. Since we bought a house and decided to try to stay around the area for a while, I thought it would be a good time to finally go back to school. I started out at the local community college and just transferred to UW-Madison last January. I started out as a Genetics major before transferring into Anthropology instead. I am hoping to do a month-long field study in South Africa next summer and should be graduating in May of 2016.

I have been a member of SP since the beginning of 2008 and originally lost over 30 lbs. Unfortunately, some depression and several cross-country moves led to me gaining it all back, plus another 10 lbs. I am currently down over 20 lbs since my highest weight and working on losing the rest of it. It really helps that my fella is finally on board with losing weight as well, but it is hard to balance school, a home life (including house and yard work), and exercise. I'm still working on it, but think I am getting better.

I'm looking forward to getting to know other adults who are in college--I feel like I'm basically all alone at my university, especially since I am older than most of the graduate students as well.

Laura

Hello everyone!
My name is Jen and I'm new to SP and the team. I'm 31, unmarried, and I have 2 "fur babies" who keep things interesting. I'm attending my local community college part-time while working on an Associates in Business that will help me transfer to a four-year school to pursue a Bachelor in Marketing.
Part of my job requirement is to be a paramedic which I have been for about 12 years now. I worked most of that time on an ambulance which was very physically demanding and now that I'm getting a little older I'm noticing the effects it had on my body. I want to lose weight so I can feel healthier and stronger and have more energy. Other than my eating and exercise habits I have a few more unhealthy habits that I need to either get in hand or quit completely.
I look forward to getting to know the rest of you through this new journey.

Hello All,

My name is Ramona, 30 years old and back in a funk. A few years ago I lost 40 pounds and felt great over the years weight has creeped back up on me. Since last year I have had a back and forth with my weight, a lot of life changes and in the last few days I have noticed my belly is bigger than it used to be and it needs to go.

I would love to be less than 200 pounds and get back in a fitter stage of life. I am a full time student, with 2 kids and I am in the process of kicking the coke zero/energy drink habit.

Looking fwd to interacting in this and some other teams.
-Ramona

Hi everyone,

I have been a mature student in the past, but the reason that I am coming on this forum is that I now teach adult students and need to learn more of how I can support them. I understand about having commitments, balancing work, family and studies. I try to reach out to my students to support them but there comes a point where they loose interest, and the studies become too difficult. Is there anything else anyone can suggest to me on how I can support them further.

I teach childcare qualifications, which require a practical placement and attending classes in the week. I see them weekly, they have my email, can arrange to see me before and after class, but still I do not seem to be able to do enough for them.

Hi,

My name is Callie and I have 50 lbs to lose. I am off to a great start with SP.

I like the official SP challenges. SP Official Healthy Cooking Challenge and SP Official 'Eat Up, Slim Down' Challenge

Making changes;-)

1. Planning meals now
2. Drinking 2.2 L of H2O per day
3. Keeping fruit in bowls throughout my house
Lastly, Tracking my food calories with (wow....lots of work there, but gotta do it!) week one of SP Official 'Eat Up, Slim Down' Challenge

I am attending Columbus State Community College. I have two more classes and then I am applying the nursing program. Just took my HESI A2 entrance exam and got a 90%. I needed a 75% and I hope that it will be enough for me to get into the program!!!

Hi Michelle and Welcome!

The first thing I would do is to see what the licensing requirements for your jurisdiction are, and find out which programs satisfy those requirements. No reason to spend time on a program that won't allow you to do what you want to do.

I wouldn't dismiss the community college. Depending on what you decide, you may be able to satisfy a number of program requirements cheaply and more conveniently, and they may be able to assist you with transferring to a program that will let you reach your goals. Before I started my Masters, I went to my local college for 2 years to get all the prereqs out of the way, test drive some basic classes in the subject I wanted to study, and use the statistics class to prep for the GRE.

Good luck!

Hi! I'm Michelle, I 48 and thinking of going back to school to become a substance abuse counselor. I can't decide if I want to go to a traditional college or do the online thing. In my town, we have 1 community college (but most of their classes are geared toward their nursing program) and one 4-year liberal arts college. I have severe test anxiety. I don't want to waste my time or the instructors or the money I don't have on something that I may not be successful at.
This is something I really need to pray about.

Hello, I am Aiden. I am currently attending Kaplan University online working on a degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavioral Analysis. I am at the tail end of my first year, and I am at the beginning of my journey here on Sparkpeople. Over the last year I have packed on the pounds, and it is time to make a change. As I work to expand my mind, I would like to work equally hard to deflate my body. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi - I'm Patti, 34, getting my Masters in Industrial and Labor Relations with a concentration in Labor Market Policy (fancy way of saying that I study why and how people work). I'll be 35 at graduation, and I'd like to be back in shape and have pictures I'm not ashamed of by then. Signed up for weightlifting this semester, and hoping that I can lose 20 pounds in the next four months. Or, well, any weight loss would be an improvement.

Hello, I'm Jess. I am (gulp, saying it out loud) 59 years old and returning to school to change careers from law to nursing. I've completed all my prereqs and will be taking the Nursing Assistant state certification exam on September 21st. (NAC is the first quarter of many nursing school programs and will let me work while in school.)

Nursing is a very physical activity and I want to be in my best shape ever so that I can work in my new field until I die. Or maybe I'll take a few weeks off for this activity. Who knows?

Hello my name is Bobbi. I am 33 years old and getting my Bachelor's Degree in Communication with a minor in English. It took me 12 years to get to college after high school and 3 years to complete my Associate's Degree from Joliet Junior College. I have been a member of Sparkpeople for awhile....but being on a new campus and walking EVERYWHERE has really shown me that I am out of shape and need to get healither...so I am back to try this again. I love school and I couldn't be more proud of where I have come from.

Hi, my name is Shikha. I was forced to withdraw last September and have chosen not to continue b/c of my health. I was told I can attend 3 classes now,so I'm going to go back to community college. I have yet to get my degree and get easily discouraged and de-motivated. I'm not even necessarily sure what my desired career is,either. I've been majoring in various versions of Multimedia or Communications, but I hate Graphic Design. It bores me to tears,my teachers were all pretentious and the assignments were extremely frustrating. I had to force myself in order to muster up even the slightest amount of enthusiasm for it.

Hi all!
I am a perpetual senior at the University of Central Oklahoma, working toward my bachelors in criminal justice. I am a police wife, and mom to a wonderful little boy. With the help of Sparkpeople, I lost over 50 lbs a few years ago. I have since gained about 20 of those pounds back, so here I am again. I want to reach my goal weight and get healthy before I start applying to law enforcement jobs after graduation in May 2014.

I have come together with a couple of my friends to create a blog for real people with real weight problems. We are going to talk about our own trials and tribulations, our own successes, give advice we have learned, share instructions on workout, etc. Eventually there will be blank charts for those of you who like to track food or exercise on paper rather than or in addition to tracking on the computer.

Sometimes we might fall on our faces, yes there is a video on the way of one of us literally doing that, but in the end we are here to support each other and you and to help everyone back onto their feet!

Decided to join this team .. Initially it was Spark People that gave me the confidence to go back to school a few years back and I'm almost done with that degree now.. It has been quite the journey but feeling like I'd like to hear from others on this same journey.

So hello new Spark Friends

Yeah!!! I survived my first week of school.
Heavy back pack, lots of walking, I'm down 5 lbs. last weigh in was 12-23.
I'm amazed I lost weight when stressed (and eat) and the holidays (more eating).
Life is going well.

Hello,
My name is Roseann and I will start back to school in 4 days. OMG!!! 4 DAYS!!!
I'm a little freaked out (if you couldn't tell).
I have been away from school for quite a while. Everything is on computer now. last time I was in school the only computer was in the office..maybe. All of my classes are web enhanced or completely on the computer. challenges everywhere.
For my first trick I will attempt to juggle school, homework, 2 kids at home, 3 grandkids we provide daycare for, a part time job and a sweetheart.
My family is being extremely supportive. My grown kids bought me a laptop for school. My teenage daughter has offered to help show me how to do things on it. My middle school son (who struggles with homework)says we can work at the same time and help each other. And Sweety is willing to take on everything so I can focus on school. He is out of work right now so this should workout.
Wish me luck.

I Carmen from San Juan, PR. I am back to college to reinvent myself. I am in the Alternative Justice, specializing in mediating conflict. I am very excited, but scared.

I am married, but living the empty nest phase, that is very hard on us, believe me. There are days of intense sorrow and sadness, those days are the hardest. I have 3 grown up girls, Laura, that lives in San Antonio, TX, Maria, that lives in Lebanon, PA, and Angelica that lives in Woodlands, TX. Laura and Angelica are married and Laura had my first grandchild, my Sofia little, littel that is 3 years old. Maria is nit married, she keeps on studying, she is making her residence as a Family Physician.

Noel, my DH has retired. I have had him at home for 6 months now, and sometimes he drives me crazy. He retired early in a government plan.

I joined Sparkpeople in March 2010, and I weighted 279, pounds. It has been a very slow journey, but in all this time I have lost 30 pounds and I have like 109 pounds to go. I am an slow looser cause the hypothyroidism and diabetes, but these conditions are not going to stop me or defeat me. I love water aerobics and I do it twice a week for 60 minutes each session. I am also planning on joining the YMCA gym to start a ST program twice a week too. I will do whatever it takes to get in my healthy weight, no matter how long it takes.

I am here for all of you and to make new friends with all you.

Carmen
From lovely San Juan, Puerto Rico and loving the beach!!!

There's nothing wrong with using the word "diet". It comes from the Greek word "diaita", meaning way of life. So to lose weight and keep it off we need to change our way of life.

Good Morning Everyone! I am Amanda. I am a 33 year old, married mother of 2 girls. I joined spakpeople back in April and have lost 27 pounds, about 84 to go! I will be starting back to ACTUAL college in January after a 15 year vacation. Yikes! I earned an online graphic design certificate 9 years ago, but was not required to take all of those BASIC math, english, science, etc classes.... So I am starting from scratch! I'm even changing my career path from Graphic Design to Accounting! I am nervous about it but very excited to start a new chapter in my life!

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Welcome to the team Jean and Kayla!

Jean, that is a great idea to get in walking on campus. I usually try to park as close as I can to my first class because I'm usually running late, but I definitely am going to try parking further away so I can get some more exercise.

Kayla, I'm so glad you've joined this team and I wish you the best on your goal to lose over a hundred pounds. Keep believing in yourself!

Hi I'm Kayla. I'm finishing up my bachelors in May and plan to attend a physical therapy program afterwards. I'm a 29 y/o single mom with one child. In my spare time I love writing, photography, and I'm trying to learn to cook (doesn't always go so well). I have always been overweight, since childhood, and most of that time I was obese. My goal is to lose over 100lbs. It's a long journey but I know it can be done. emoticon

My name is Jean - I am 49 working on my bachelor in Psychology. I just finished my degree with a major in Sociology.

I am working on my goal to lose 40 pounds - my favorite activity while on campus is walking to all of my classes. I park outside the building of my last class in the morning. I get about 50 minutes of walking in per day by doing this.

Hi my name is Pam. I am 36. I recently moved to Sioux Falls, SD from Plano, Texas. I started college last August taking on campus class at a community college in Texas. I had to withdraw my second semester because of my move. I started taking online classes in May and just finished my first block of classes and I am a week into my second block.

Hello! I'm Cris. emoticon I'm almost 29 and I just started my freshman year at a semi-local community college. I ended up working right after high school and kept putting off going to college, but finally decided that I needed to do this. I didn't want to turn 30 and still be in exactly the same situation, the same soul-sucking retail job, that I'd been in at 20, you know? I'm majoring in Liberal Arts for now, intending to transfer to a four year school at some point- where, I don't know yet- probably majoring in English. But who knows, I might change my mind on that.

As far as weight is concerned, I lost about 50 pounds a couple of years ago (about half of what I need to lose), but have gained back 15-20 since with all the stress of dealing with getting my ducks in a row for school and financial aid and all of that, so definitely looking to get back on the wagon and start again, once school isn't quite so overwhelming.

Nice to meet you all!

Hi, new here! My name is CJ, and I'm 30, majoring in Studio Art and planning to combine it with Digital Media studies. I was in college straight out of high school years ago, but it wasn't time for me to go yet--I had no idea what I wanted to do and absolutely hated having to slog through classes that seemed like a repeat of high school. I left and started working, and returned to school (community college) about three years ago. I'm now about to start year 2 at 4-year school. :) I'm still not exactly sure what I want to do yet.... I love working with my hands, which is where the art thing comes in (I worked with clay this year--it was awesome!), but I also took a class in Digital Video Production and enjoyed it so much I'm going to be working at the school's digital media studio this fall. Right now I'm keeping my options open!

My college friends don't know I'm 30 until I tell them, LOL. It's fun to see their reactions. XD Nice to meet you all!

Hello all..
I'm 48 years old and started back to school again last September. After taking care of my parents for 4 years, I decided to change careers from teaching to nursing. Of course with all the sitting and studying, and the stress of losing my dad, I gained back 25 of the 35 pounds I originally lost with spark. I'm determined more than ever to lose what I gained and more!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all :)

Good morning all,
My name is Leslie and I am a 47-year-old mom, mimi and full time student at Penn State Harrisburg. I will be graduating in December and then hopefully on for my Master's in ABA. When completed I will be a BCBA, board certified behavior analyst. Much of what SP does is very behaviorally based and you would think I could do this...and I can, but I had joined a couple years ago, (about the time I got laid off and decided to go back to school) lost 25 pounds then gained it back and here I am.

I have a whole knew outlook and attitude and with all the tools on the site I can be successful and get these 50 pounds off once and for all.

I look forward and hope to meet many of you so that we can support each other on this journey of education and weightloss!
Have a great day! And I just bought the cookbook. Can't wait to get it!
Leslie

Hi everyone! My name is Michelle. I'm a 40 year old mother of 3 boys. I started with Spark People in 2006 and was doing very well. And then I decided to go back to school. I am taking on line courses through Dakota State University to obtain my degree in Health Information Management. Since going back to school, I have struggled finding a new routine and eventually began falling back into the old lifestyle. Thankfully, I've only gained about 20 lbs back of the 50 that I originally lost.

So, I decided to join this group and see if I can get any pointers from those going through the same thing!

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Michelle

Welcome to all the newbies!! I am going to start mini-challenges if anyone is interested in doing them. They are completely optional but I know school seems to get in the way to eat healthy and exercise. Hopefully this will help!

Hello :D

My name is Kimberly. I am 41 and going back to school. I start a phlebotomy certification course on Jan 18 and I'm taking one class this semester at the community college. I'll take more in the next few semesters, but I'm working on getting my financial aid reinstated. I'm getting my Associates of Science degree and then transferring to the university as a junior to work on my Bachelors of Science in Medical Technology.

I had thought about doing the nursing programs, but my favorite part of working as a veterinary technician was drawing blood and working in the lab, setting up and examining samples and tests.

I have a 15 year old son who is in band, he's on the drumline at his school and he ROCKS. We live with my mother, which isn't the most idea situation as we don't get along very well, but it's what I have to do for now :)

Hello. I am Nicole a single mom to a wonderful little boy. So that I can go to school we are living with my mother. I go to school full time and stay at home with my son full time. He starts school next year so I am looking forward to the quiet daytime study hours, but until then I have to work my schedule around him. He is the light of my life so it is alright. :-) Anyway, I am an art major and have about 3 years left until I get my bachelors. After I get there, get a job, move out, and start supporting myself and my son without burdening my mother I will look into getting my masters.

Hello! My name is Stephani and I haven't had much time to keep up with this site! I am currently in the Radiologic Technologist program at Salt Lake Community College (UT). I have 3 kids and a fiance. I feel like I have ZERO time for myself anymore. I have gained about 15 lbs since starting school and that is adding onto the 20 I've gained over the last 2 years. My trouble with finding time to work out is that I live about an hour from school and from my clinicals. So I am traveling about 2 hours a day. I wake up between 5-5:30 am and am home around 6-6:30pm. Anyone feel my pain yet? LOL The nearest gym is about 15 min away and during the warmer months I was jogging outside. I sure could use some advice on how to incorporate exercise with my schedule. It seems like my kids have so much homework I need to try and keep up with as well as my own. I feel so worn down that when I get home I just want to go to sleep. This has been so tough on me as I haven't weighed this much since I was married (over 5 years ago!). Any ideas on how to eat better, quick meals or something to help me survive? I am supposed to go to Spain this summer for a week and I would LOVE to be 20 lbs lighter! :)

Hi, I'm Mandi. I am 32 and a sophomore at local state college. I will have my AA in May for Education, then go on for my bachelor's so I can teach middle or high school science and/or history.

I have 2 kids, 6 and 11. I am engaged to an amazing man who loves every pound of me! I share a house with my mother, we just got the place together a couple months ago and it is helping my stress level in some ways, but stressful in others. I haven't worked in over 6 months, but now I'm looking for p/t work since I have another person at home to help with my kids.

I will be inducted into Phi Theta Kappa in November which is a really big deal to me b/c I've kept up my gpa even though two kids, was working full time until March and school is hard when you have been out for over a decade!!!

So, I'm also finally truly trying to concentrate on weight loss. 4lbs down in the first week! I gained 40 this year after I stopped working. Finals do it to me! But I'm trying to take back control of my body!!!

Progress....Not Perfection!!!

Its time to stop Yo-Yo Dieting and Make a Lifestyle Change!!!

Hello! My name is Chris and I would like to tell you a bit about myself. I am 36 years old, the mother of two teenagers, and I have been married for 16 years. I am in the second year of an associates program for becoming a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). This is my 2nd degree. I have a degree in Marketing but all that did was get me a job that I was laid off from two years ago. I (like many other people) decided to go into the medical field for job security. I mean, everyone needs tests run even when they are healthy. I have been overweight since I had my first child at 20. I was never heavy as a child. In fact I was always really thin. I think that might be why I have a problem with trying to lose weight. I have only lost weight once and that was because I stopped eating for a month when I got really depressed. Course, I gained it all back when I started feeling better. :/
What I am hoping to take from this group is support and similar stories that let me know I am not alone. I want to hear how others deal with trying to eat a good meal between classes. How does everyone else handle snacking and studying ( which for me has also gone hand and hand)? I look forward to hearing from everyone else. Take care. :)

Hello, all! I'm Jessica and I'm a newbie to Spark. I joined this team because I, too, am an adult student. I'm an English major with a minor in Secondary Education. I joined SP because I want to feel good in my own skin, and love myself as my husband loves me.

Good luck to all, and I promise I won't judge your grammar or usage (that's usually an English joke that's not always funny =) ).
