Glad to see you here, DAMOMMA10! I need to lose about the same as you and am terrified that I am on the road to the same health issues if I don't get the weight off. Still, it's hard! I HATE to exercise! But I'd rather do that than be dead and miss out on life!

Howdy, DAMOMMA! Well, food may be king in New Orleans but maybe you just need to focus on quality rather than quantity! The Spark People cookbook is loaded with tasty recipes and recommendations for a balanced diet. Personally, if ya want my opinion, low carb is not the way to go. Moderate, measured, balanced: that's sane and livable! So read the nutrition stuff on SP, some of which is pitched to folks with diabetes and heart disease. It is absolutely NOT impossible to lose weight on insulin - but the real magic on SP is to focus on health while you learn to track and manage food and exercise. Exercise may be the key for you - the Spark approach is gradual, starting slow, so your new bike ought to be a great tool! I too am (almost) 60 and started with 70 pounds to lose last August and am down 36 pounds! Slow but sure wins this race. Again welcome and Spark on!

But doing well after a rough year. Dr.'s improved me with Rx and a pacemaker or sorts. I'm 70#s overweight.... just turned 60 and now ready to face the truth. Since I'm on Injectable insulin, my Dr says it will be very hard to loose weight... which is very true. I got a bike for Christmas and live in a riding friendly neighborhood. So excited about that... but if feels like starting over. I eat a healthy diet... but not good enough to loose the weight. One of the problems is that I live in New Orleans where food is King.... but I'm a great cook and would like to modify my dishes... my Dr says that I have "way" too many carbs... I tried Adkins... up and down 5 lbs x 2 months... gave up on that... but I did feel a lot better without carbs and my sugars were great. So... stuck there... I am looking for some support in a new direction... that is why I joined SparkPeople. Thanks for listening. :)
