Happy New Year! 2011 was a difficult year - divorce, corresponding financial issues, weight gain. Especially now that I'm over 50, it's time to get myself healthy mentally and physically. I'm a very active sports official, working roughly 10 games/week about five months out of the year (from teens to adults). Without this exercise, my health and weight would be much worse. On the other hand, carrying 60 extra pounds around during the rigors of a game is not smart. I'm in sales and travel throughout the work week, but I'm typically home five nights/week. As I'm sure many others know, living alone after 30 years of marriage is not easy. Besides being sedentary in the evenings and most weekends, I tend to take the quickest, simplest route in my diet. Of course, this has lead to weight gain. My biggest challenge is overcoming the grief from losing a long-time partner. Fortunately, my family and friends stepped up in 2011. Now it's my responsibility to exercise some discipline and move forward. I'm convinced getting right physically will assist my mental outlook and get me to a much better place in 2012.
