Hello!

My name is Jenelle, I am 31 years old and live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have been married for 7 years, and currently have 2 children (3 year old daughter and a 5 year old son).

I have been "big" since I was a teenager. I've been on my different diets...the most successful was when I lost 30 lbs working out 5 days a week and using the South Beach diet. All that changed once I got pregnant with my first son. Since then, I've been trying to figure out a way to get fit while balancing a career and a family. Being active on SP will be a wonderful part of my daily routine and I am so excited about it. Good luck to you all on your journey!

Hello. My name is Dean. I've known about Spark for a while, my wife Amy has been on here for a while. Since the begining of the year, I had decided to stop drinking soda and watch my portion sizes. For most of my adult life I've hovered between 250 and 265 or so. Shortly after my 31st birthday, a year ago, I started to notice that I was carrying the weight differently. I checked my weight and I wasn't any larger, just putting it different places.

It'd been a while since I'd been on a scale. This past weekend I got on at the Y! and I had to move the big weight back down to the 200 mark! I was surprised. Eventually the bar settled around 239. I was certainly surprised.

Yesterday on my birthday, I decided to sign up for Spark. During the setup it wanted me to insert my current weight, and to be quite honest, I didn't trust the scale at the Y. So I stopped into the fitness center at my office and confirmed that I was down to 242. The last time I checked in with them was almost a year ago, and was during a time of being intentional about my weight loss... and was at 249.

So as of today, I'm trying to track my nutrition, and keep on track to a 40+lb loss, to get around 200lbs.

I don't have any excerise plan at this point, but I'm mostly watching my portions, not drinking regular soda, and snacking at the office with apples, yogurt, and granola bars, and drinking a lot more water.

Hello everyone!
My name is Sheila. I heard about SP from Dave at the weekend service a while back but did not sign up until yesterday. I decided to sign up as a way to help me stay motivated with exercise. My primary exercise is racewalking. I am in a training group for the Flying Pig half marathon. The race is just a "next goal" to help stay motivated. Exercise for me is not just about staying fit, but it helps with energy, mood level and weight control.

Hi all -

My name is Pam. I've been struggling with my weight since my youngest child was born 6 years ago. I quit smoking two years ago and that didn't help either!

I'm here to lose the last 26 pounds of baby weight (can I still call it that? lol) and to increase my awareness of my overall fitness and nutrition habits.

This is just my second week on SP, and I'm already feeling better! Good luck to everyone!

Hi Pam,
Welcome. I'm with you on eating whole/natural foods. They are better for us for sure.
Great on getting your cholesterol down without needing medicine.
Yes, it does take a while to get used to the website.Doing the beginning basics on getting started and watching the video clips can help with that.
Keep up the good work.emoticon

Hi! My name is Pam and I found out about SP when Dave Workman mentioned it at church. I am still figuring out this website! It takes a bit of time and I am just getting around to introducing myself. I really like the fitness and nutrition trackers although the nutrition tracker is a bit time consuming. I have always had an interest in eating healthy and exercising but 2 years ago, I finally made a real lifestyle change because my cholesterol was high! I managed to get it down without drugs! I've lost 10 lbs and want to lose 5 more. I know that doesn't seem like much to some people but if I hadn't lost the weight when I did, I was on a path of steady gain! I love to eat so it has been a challenge because I've never been a "dieter". My husband will eat cardboard if you tell him it is healthy for him...and he is one of those rare people who can make healthy choices at a buffet! I, on the other hand, cannot. I want my food to taste really good AND if there is yummy food right in front of me, it is hard to resist! So my goal/plan is to plan my meals and snacks so that I look forward to what I am eating. If I don't have a plan and I get too hungry, that is when I go off track. I don't deprive myself though. I eat yummy less-than-healthy foods but I try to eat small portions and don't eat them all the time. And I read labels! When you read labels, you often find out that there is nothing but chemicals in there and it turns me off! I am more of a whole foods advocate. I'd rather eat the real thing than some imitation. I don't like fat-free cheeses or fat free sour cream or things that naturally should not be fat free! I've collected lots of yummy recipes that are healthy and good for me and that have the nutritional content that is necessary to sustain life. And more often than not, I'd rather eat my own cooking than eating out now!

Hi I am Jane..I am not a member of your church but from New Life Vineyard in Fairfield Township. I have a small team under that name but thought I would join yours too.

I have only lived in this area for about a year, from rural NY.
At New Life Vineyard I teach at treasure land, lead a small group bible study and soon will be doing some work with the teen group. My husband is assisting Pastor Adam with the teen group. Pray for us we will be assisting him in the 30 hour famine event at the end of the month.
Have an awesome blessded day! Janeemoticon

Hey, everyone!

I am Ryan King and I am the Welcome Team Coordinator at Vineyard, so most of you who have seen me probably just know me as the tall guy in the red shirt.

Right now, I don't eat very well, I drink too much pop, and I don't get much activity in either (other than walking the halls of the Vineyard each weekend). But I'm fun!

I am hoping through God and the support of everyone I can achieve my goal of losing 33 pounds. I'd like to do this by June 10th just to give myself a deadline, but I've never really done well with deadlines. When I do hit my weight loss goal, I plan on rewarding myself with my first-ever tattoo.

Pray for me- I will need it!

Hello everyone! My name is Becky. My husband Jason and I live in Blue Ash. Four years ago I lost weighed 155 lbs and was very out of shape. Over a year I lost 50 lbs thru changing my diet and running two miles a day. I've kept that weight off for four years now, but have slacked off in my running. We attend the Vineyard and are just looking to meet some people and find our nich.

Hello everyone! My name is Tom Niehaus.

Why am I here?

Initially I joined because of Dave's invitation to be part of a place where we can check in with each other and encourage one another. And I have seen that start to happen here.

After being with SparkPeople for a couple weeks I have found that setting a goal and making it public creates its own motivation to follow through. I have also found that logging in every day keeps my health and fitness goals on top of my thinking, not to mention all the information available here which has been very helpful to me.

I am a runner and my current focus is training for the Heart Mini-marathon in two months. I track my fitness activities rather than what I eat, but monitoring what I weigh and visiting SparkPeople everyday has caused a change in my eating habits.

I believe that, to some extent, getting old is something we let happen to ourselves; but that it is never too late to start (or re-start) living healthy.

I encourage everyone to set a goal for yourself, make yourself known here, check in everyday and interact!

Peace,
Tom

Hi guys! I just wanted to pop in to introduce myself. I just learned of SP because Dave mentioned it. So I've been trying to get into a routine for about a week now. There is a lot of info here... can be time consuming. But I am finding the nutrition tracker to be very useful.
on another note...Our family is new to the Vineyard and I would love to get connected with other members any way I can.

I began my weight loss journey on September 1, 2007. I needed to lose a total of 195 pounds, and so far I have lost around 125 of it. I have about 70 to go.

I mainly used SP then just to track my nutrition and post messages here and there. I was using a wonderful program called Setting Captives Free - The Lord's Table to help me get in the right mindset to lose weight and get healthy. If you want to find out more about it, the site is linked at the bottom of this message and it is also free.

I had tried every "diet" imaginable in the past with no success, even Weight Watchers (which, if you don't mind me adding, SparkPeople in itself is MUCH better than WW, in my opinion, and it's free).

I have had permanent success with SP, starting out with the Lord's Table Bible study, and have spent no money to do this other than my monthly YMCA membership fee! I know it's permanent this time because I have made a lifestyle change, not just incorporated another diet into my life, if that makes sense.

I don't deprive myself of anything. I eat in moderation and always stay within my ranges on SP's nutrition tracker. I don't, however, use SP's suggested meal plans or menus. I track and input my own foods, but still try to keep things balanced in what I eat, and generally do make healthy choices for the most part (maybe once a week I will allot for something considered "junk," but never go over my max range).

The articles and message boards here at SP are awesome! There is so much information and support available right here, that there's no need to get taught anything elsewhere. I have yet to see any question posted on the Community Message Boards not get answered!

Some of my favorite foods are light yogurts, oatmeal, high fiber cereal bars, fruits, vegetables, I use Egg Beater's (or generic version) to make very low-fat/low-cal omelets, reduced fat cheeses and milk, plain baked potatoes with only fat-free sour cream and low-fat cheese melted on it (I use red potatoes so they aren't so dry), brown rice, once in a while boneless skinless chicken breast, fish, lean pork chops, and ground turkey breast, to name some things.

A lot of people dread the thought of exercising. I did, too. I actually just started exercising regularly within the past month--sad, I know. I just knew I had to, and I'm so glad I did because as much as I did hate it at first, I felt so much better, literally, after each workout, and I already can tell a big difference in how I feel when I miss working out (like a couple nights this week when the snow and ice hit, and the Y was closed), and it made it easier for me to quit smoking, which I gave up a little over a week ago. I used the fitness room at work last night to make up for some of what I missed, even though I had to go back to work sweaty and hot. I love exercise already, and I used to be one of the laziest people around, hence part of the reason I got as big as I did.

I just wanted to share a bit of what I do. I'll admit, trying to get healthy can be a challenge until you figure out what works best for you, as no one is alike. And the more knowledgeable you become in healthiness, the easier it will get--so read, read, read!

This is the spot that new and present members can introduce themselves to the team.
We would all like to hear about each other.

My goal is to lose 38 pounds, so far I have lost 6, leaving only 32 more to go !
My eating plan is best described as Natural Health foods. My drs. want me to avoid the whites- white rice, white flour, white potatoes and white sugar. Actually all sugar. I have metabolic syndrome. To me the best way to describe it is pre-pre diabetic. I also have a problem with chronic pain. So, I really need to work on this.
It is not always possible for me to follow it exactly, but I do it most of the time.
I eat lean meats and fish, sweet potatoes and brown rice, veggies, fruits, raw nuts and good fats like olive oil.
My favorite thing to have is a fruit, yogurt, protein powder smoothie I make in the blender. The frozen fruit satisfied my wanting ice cream. I'll have to write up the recipe sometime.
Usually I eat Ezekiel sprouted bread and English muffins, it has higher protein and super healthy. But it is best toasted.
Just wanted to share what do for eating. Each one of us is different. And it is great there are so many plans to pick from.
Sparkpeople has a good plan, and many will be joining Weight Watchers at VCC.
I wish I could do all sorts of physical exercise, but I am limited to walking, which I do enjoy.
