I too have diverticulosis. I was diagnosed in '09. M y doc didn't say anything about rich foods, but did tell me to stay away from abrasive foods, ie, popcorn, corn, nuts seeds, and anything else that is hard to digest. Now, for myself, I have found that citrus fruits and pineapple will set my stomach off. And it can be really painful. Now I am normally really good with watching what I eat, especially since I have Diabetes, Hypothyroidism, and Diverticulosis. (yep, I am a medical mess; and I'm 35!). I try to eat foods higher in fiber and drink lots of fluids when I am doing good, and when I feel like a flare-up is coming, I was recommended to eat a very low fiber diet and stick to basically fluids.
I too have ended up in the ER too many times. The last time was Oct '10. Ended up being admitted for 4 days! Horrible. But had a bad case of Diverticulitis, colitis, and Salmonella poisoning. What a rough time! And I will have to admit, wasn't too bad having my first colonoscopy. Not that I planned on it, but because I was really sick.
I am trying very hard not to have a flare up again, (just because I hate taking the Cipro and Flagyll). So, definitely, any one else that wants to keep track of foods, count me in.
