I went to my Support group meeting yesterday-it was for two hours. My next one will be on Monday Nov 12th, but will only be for one hour.

I hope everyone is doing well.

emoticon emoticon Just got my Fitbit Zip and have synced it between Fitbit and Sparkpeople.
Found out it doesn't track indoor exercycling-evidently just walking. I will use it tonight at work for the first time since my other pedometer died. The other one didn't download to the computer. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I will be having the Gastric Bypass-my insurance says that it will pay for that only due to my BMI they said it would have the best effect. I work at the hospital I am having it at. It is just a differant Campus site.

I have the papers with the diet info on it in front of me. I got them when we went to the Info sessions.
I want to set up a schedule of the times of which to do everything-it will be helpful especially when I am in the 1-2 weeks after the surgery.

Today marks the end of the 6 month required program for insurance. it was actually more helpful than I expected. I got an envelope with 2 pedometers, a measuring tape, and a large information booklet. I had to talk to a coach about every 4 weeks, she helped me set up and achieve goals. when I first started looking into this, I wasn't sure which 1 I was going to have. Mass General has a great Weight Loss Center & they don't do the LAP band anymore & the sleeve is less invasive than the bypass, & has a quicker recovery time. I've really research this a lot and made my decision to go with the sleeve. It's a huge committment of time & we look at it as a lifestyle change & a second chance on eating healthy. We just went over the 2 week liquid diet before surgery, which they call the liver shrinking diet. Now I'm getting nervous, surgery is scheduled for December 19th. Keep in touch!! Cynthia

Thank you. My insurance says that they will only pay for the RNY for me as it would be the one that would work the best.

I have read a lot of books on the subject and will be going to the Info Sessions on Oct 9th and 11th. The sessions will give me more of an idea of how they work there. I work at the hospital of my upcoming WLS (next year). We have good insurance and so that helps. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Surgical risks aside, virtually any WLS procedure produces better long-term (i.e. keeping the weight off) than traditional "diet and exercise" programs. I personally have a Lap-Band and love it!! The key is whatever you choose, it's a tool. And like any tool you can use it correctly or find ways to "abuse" it and eat around it.

But it sounds like you have the most important tool already in place: mindset. And that will lead to your properly using the tool they create surgically.

Good luck and welcome!!

RNY is a fantastic, life changing procedure! It can take someone from 6x all the way to M, lol! It will do the job! Hope you have great meetings next week!

My insurance (and I work for the hospital) will only pay for the RNY for me. But, they do cover it well. I will learn more from them next week. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Greetings, All;

I am on the part of the journey-right before as I am doing the 6 month thing. It is an insurance thing. So, they said surgery is next year.
I have 2 Info Sessions next week-Oct 9th and 11th and then my Nutritionist (again).
I started the process with the Consult first for some reason and now it is the Info Sessions.

I have read a lot of books on the subject and been to some support meetings.

No problem with Tracking as I have been doing it for a year now-food and exercise.

I am Diabetic and have been on a Healthy Lifestyle for quite some time now. I don't eat much and watch my portions-portion control.

And so-onward with my journey!
In the end it is a tool for me to use in my journey and to use it well. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
