I stumbled across this posting/thread (not sure of my terminology) after I've been entering my daily gratitude's on monthly message for over a week.....not sure about internet protocols. I joined SP in April and operated in stealth mode but after attending a local rally and meeting a few "Sparkers" I decided to get more active online.

I'm not sure who or how I found this team....Divine Order I guess. Maybe you follow a similar path on SP. You read something that resonates with you...curious about who posted it, go check their Spark Page, their teams or through friend feed you discover someone/something new and interesting and you check it out. I'm just so GRATEFUL that I found this one.

I live in the desert southwest with my DH of 23 years and have 3 grown children by marriage. My SP name is explained in a blog I wrote last weekend...tribute to my mom. www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

Looking forward to interacting with other team members as we go through this JOURNEY together.

Namaste,

Hello all you grateful people...some of you already long-term Spark friends who have recommended this team! It took me long enough to get here, but I wondered if I could manage any additional computer time. Still not sure how to rein in a propensity to spend far more time online than I should, but grateful for all the connections I've made here.

I'm a 52 yr. old former rabble-rouser (community and labour activist), college manager and -- taking a bit of time-out now while I re-create my life after losing my job 18 months ago (after almost 30 years at the same company). Have been married to the same guy for 27 years, though lived (in sin!) with him for 4 years prior to deciding to make it a more formal and longer term arrangement. We have two sons, one 24 and the other 17...#1 has recently left home for the second time, #2 is in his last year of high school.

We live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, the affairs of our lives currently dictated by far too many cats -- feral mamas found our property, have birthed numerous kittens, so we now house/feed/foster a total of 12 [that's after finding homes, so far, for 5 of the kittens]. We're working with a Prevent a Litter Society to find permanent homes for all of the kittens, now socialized, and for their mamas (now spayed, but still more or less feral).

I look forward to checking in regularly with so many 'half-glass-full' people...and trying to keep my focus there too!

/Gail

Hi Everyone!
I am 45, wife to hubby for 22 yrs., mom to 3 ages 23, 21 and 19 all either married or in college. I have been on Spark and a lot of teams here, I am looking to find a positive team and positive people who will help me focus on all the blessings I do have, and get rid of negative thinking. This seems like a great team to do that, and I look forward to getting to know everyone and rejoice with you in the blessings of your lives.

Hi Everyone

My name is Deby... I am 51 years old... I am on Top
of the Hill... Taking this time to look back over my life... and able to see clearly the direction I would like to take now...

Last Aug. 2008 I weighed in at 215 lbs. and said no more.......
I started Spark People Feb. 5 2009 weighing in at 192 pounds....

I would love to see the 140's or even the 130's again and also to fit into
sizes 5/6 its been over 20 years ....

I Have never Exercised like I have now... so I am not sure of what number will
suit me on the Scale.... so when I hit the 150's I will re-Evaluate where I am...

I make sure I do my daily jog/walking, of 105 min...
in the beginning was mostly walking now able to mostly jog... I wear my pedometer and do at least 10,000 steps per day... (in beginning could barely make 5,000)

I have a ONEderful Hubby and 3 grown sons.
My middle son has blessed me with grandkids.
~~~I LOVE MY FAMILY~~~
BLESSings ALLways
Deby
Hello everyone. I just joined your community, thanks to my online friendships with Kathleen and with Maha..so I will tell you about myself a little.
I am 59 years old, and on Spark People to lose weight and to get more fit. I believe in the power of Gratitude, though I have never put it to the "test" so to speak, until now. I am a Spiritual person, who believes that everything happens for a reason, and that is, your Soul's growth. There is always a lesson to be learned from a painful or challenging event, and I try to determine just what it is.
Today I am grateful for-
I am finally getting my wish that I meet new people, and make new friends in my Life, so that I make my life less lonely and more rich.
...I am grateful to have a safe and secure place to live, to finally give my life some stability in my home situation. (for the past 2 and a half years)
..I am grateful for this community, and that I am finally serious about changing my body.
..I am grateful to have money to buy nutritious food.
..I am grateful to have a source of joy in my singing and to have a talent for it.
..I am grateful to have these 2 strong legs to help me walk many steps, all over this beautiful city.
..I am very grateful to have healed my heart (most of the way) after a painful breakup 6 mos. ago.
..I am also very grateful to have experienced a miraculous healing, a spontaneous healing, of a serious infection, fistula that made my life a nightmare of terrible Pain for over a year.
..I am grateful to have reconciled with my former room-mate, and that we both don't hate each other now.
(did I list too many things????????????)
Ellen
Good Morning People! My name is Kat, and I became aware of the power of counting blessings when my life was out of balance and discovered the personal challenge of not always needing to "solve problems", which don't belong to me. I am still working on that. I recently realized that I have a strong aversion to relationships that try to snag me into co-dependency, and that I am very vulnerable still to such attempted acquisitions and I am working on developing a way of establishing boundaries gently but firmly having realized how such previous relations made it impossible to fully own my self, and my actions; not easy with recognized but never totally eradicated old anger and fear :)
I have been on this site for a while, I have joined a number of teams, looked over even more, and switched out and on exploring and appreciating each for what they offer, and what I learned and was allowed to share.
This time,three years plus later, in my Spark voyage, I decided to clean house on Spark, and re-focus on specific areas that I feel are currently most fundamental to my balance and they are the creative side,and the activity of conscious and continued gratitude. I feel I can take care of my physical activities and nutritional activities quite well.
So while I was aware of this team for some time, and have in fact, visited quietly at times, I feel now, today, I am ready to commit to the work and support that it offers me.
I am also a long-time friend of Taz, and I frankly looked at the two people I care about the most in my friends listing, in terms of what I have learned and gained, and shared, and decided to try this team, and another team of another friend, which is geared more toward creativity.
Thank you for having me.
Kat
You summed it up beautifully with:
"gratitude trumps criticism"
I'm a self-made cynic, critic, and perfectionist who is trying to peel those layers away. This team is a great place to practice that!
I'm grateful that the wonderful MAHA steered you in this direction and that you've decided to join us on this journey.
P.S. I'm also very grateful to Maha who took the time to write a lovely note about the benefits of gratitude and to invite me here. Thanks, Maha!
Hi, All -- I'm Kathleen. I've not known myself as a person who expresses gratitude easily; in fact, I'm more of the type who somehow thinks she contributes more if she notices what is *wrong* in situations. Well, that has its place in limited quantities but clearly gratitude trumps criticism in a lots of really big ways. So I've come to join you!
I'm 50 years old -- recently separated from a 20+ year relationship and feeling both sad and also relieved. We went through multiple therapists and attempts to make it work, but I finally decided that I could not carry on with the relationship as it existed.
As part of my gratitude practice, I'll start by noticing that I am grateful to him for his interest in things like healthy agriculture, healthy eating, beekeeping, and healthy construction which spurred my interest in the same things (not that I do construction or beekeeping, but I am interested!).
I am also in a betwixt and between job situation. The history is complicated but I am currently working at my "side job" of teaching and training and also collecting unemployment because my main job ended when the place was sold to another organization. I had a complicated relationship with that organization, so this is probably a good opportunity to offer another moment of gratitude. I'm grateful to have gotten my master's degree at no cost.
And a few general things I am grateful for today:
* Sunshine
* A safe and affordable place to live.
* The choice to overeat or not (as opposed to not having enough food)
* Spark People
Nice to meet you all.
Kathleen
Somehow, I totally missed this thread. Decided today to jump on in, after reading all of your amazing posts.
I'm another Kathy. Married to the same guy for 21 years. We are like a lot of folks. REALLY struggled the first several years of our marriage. LOTS of therapy, and hard work to make our relationship what it is today. I am SO grateful for the fact that this guy, who never even learned how to feel, now can...AND can identify the feelings and talk about them when need be. What amazing growth. And yes, I have also learned to be more accepting and forgiving. Less demanding and confronting over the years.
My grandmother used to point out the beauty of life...she would share a cup of tea, and tell me stories, always with a spirit of gratitude. And my mom. So much like her own mom. Catholic school bred, I learned to give thanks for our blessings on a regular basis.
Three years ago, I underwent a series of surgeries (Five in six months), being close to death on a few occasions. During that time, I discovered Sparks, and a thread that Rebecca had started. Simply there to post gratitudes. I began taking up the practice. It was so difficult when I was in so much pain. So drugged. So depressed. So scared of what might lie ahead.
But day after day, I realized I could still see, read, type, and sit...then I could stand and walk. My pain eventually subsided, and hope stirred within. I began to discover on a heart felt, deeply spiritual level, the joy of expressing thanks and living in a spirit of gratitude.
Right now, my life is again in turmoil. My mom who is severly demented, was finally placed in an Alzheimer's home. My dad, who is 87, is struggling with depression and loneliness that goes along with that situation. They are 8 hours away. And the pain of not being able to be there is overwhelming sometimes.
We have just sold a home on the coast that we put our hearts into when we had it built five years ago. And we are in the midst of sorting and packing up our belongings to say good bye to our dream.
We just bought another home and are in escrow there as well...such transitions.
There are days now, when it is still difficult, but the pattern is so ingrained. I wake up and literally LOOK for the beauty in life, the lessons in my tribulations, the ways I can grow, the ways I can be a kinder, gentler person. And I wake up with the desire to appreciate everything, from the obvious miracles, to something as simple as the act of breathing.
So there you go. Has it changed my life? And as Sarah Palin would say...You Betcha!
(and saying her name is not a reflection in any way of my political beliefs)
Hi! I'm Lynn and I'm the older sister of Tracy (see below). I've been married to Ray for 26 years with 3 amazing kids in their 20's. We live north of Pittsburgh, PA in the same house for 25 years next week. I was diagnosed with MS a few years ago, but am very blessed to be doing well right now. My sister & I were not so close for many years, but are making up for lost time now! It is amazing how she's turned her life around! We are each other's biggest cheerleaders.
Hi! I'm Tracy and I'm a grateful recovering addict who is new to this team! Thanks CAROLYN for the invite and recommendation! It's always nice to be surrounded by those who are as grateful and willing to give thanks where thanks is due as I am! I'm a single mom who has 2 beautiful teenage daughters and I work full time in hospitality...Almost 2 years ago I hit what was truly my "bottom"...I have been more than thankful to my higher power since...The fact that I'm still alive in itself is a miracle...I often make mental gratitude check lists...Life is a blessing...living life is the most wonderful blessing yet!
HOWDY -- I'm new to the team. Thanks for the invite, AT. I learned about gratitude thanks to my association with A.A. I have kept gratitude journals on & off (mostly off) through the years. I know the value of keeping an "attitude of gratitude" -- if nothing else, it keeps me off the pity pot.
My name is Cathy. A daughter, sister, wife, auntie, godmother, niece, cousin in a large extended African family. Also an aspiring writer, dreamer and seeker.
I started keeping a daily gratitude list about 3 years ago on and off. I continue working on making it a daily habit. Even if I don't actually write or type my list, I want to have a heart of gratefulness everyday.
We had a family time of gratefulness this morning. Topic of discussion on everyone's mind? We decided we are especially grateful today for tummy muscles and all that they do for us each day without complaining or requiring much attention from us--but oooooooh how they benefit from a little TLC! :)
"We" are a family with 5 young children still living at home. We live in Texas where we are also thankful for a recent RAINy season that headed our way! WHOOO HOOO!
Greetings people!
After receiveing several invitations to join this team I am finally here! Haha!
I am a 48 year young guy living in Northern Virginia, close to our nation's capital. I love exercise and taking care of my health. But, in the past, perfectionism and other "distresses" have attacked my confidence and sabatoged my efforts.
Since discovering Spark in October, I have been on a roll. What makes a difference this time has been the tracking tools together with the social support. The other essential elements were already in place: I already had a regular exercise routine in place (although I have learned a lot more about exercise since joining Spark). I knew the basics about good nutrition and have always prefered the taste of real, healthy foods. There have always been some family members who were interested in exercise and nutrition, so I was never completely alone in this. Over the course of 25 years of marriage, my wife has always been exercise partners with me, going for hikes, to the gym etc.
It is nice to be here with other people who value the placing of attention on the wonderful things in life.
A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.
Hello everyone, my name is Carolyn, I am 45 yrs. young, happily married for almost 21 yrs, have three beautiful children and a stay at home mom. I have witnessed the blessings of gratitude for a couple of years now. I am a recovering addict and one of the first tools they teach you in rehab is a daily gratitude list. This keeps me focused on the positive instead of the negative. Everyday is a blessing to me, for I was dancing with the devil and at Hell's front door, my higher power chose to save me and I will be forever gratiful for that. Sometimes I get that pity party going and forget, so I will be joining this group to remind myself that everyday is a blessing and there is ALWAYS something or someone to be gratiful for. Have a GROOVY day all my fellow sparkers.
Hi Everyone,
I am starting late in the game.. I was absent from SP and absent from being good to myself when Kathy sent out the invitation to join this team.
My name is Val, I live just outside of Portland, Oregon. I am 41, a Capricorn, a wife and mother of two of my own, and three of my husband's children. They range in age from 18 all the way up to 31. We are expecting our first grandchild in August. I was a dental lab technician for 16 years (making porcelain and gold crowns and bridges), I stopped working in 2003, and haven't quite figured out what I want to be when I grow up :-)
I am positive and happy most of the time, but tend to be a worrier and can be hard on myself. I study many faiths and am more spiritual than religious.I practice yoga and meditation. I love travel, and have been to Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, and a couple of trips within the US in the past year. I also love fine food, fine wine, music, dancing, singing, golf, sewing, crafting jewelry, and reading, among many other things. I believe we are all connected, and by sharing our gratitude, our hearts open and we ride this profound wave of awareness together. When I express my gratitude on a daily basis, I feel so much love open up within me, and I think it makes me a better person. I also enjoy, so much, reading the gratitude posts of others, and it helps to remind me of little things I may have overlooked to appreciate in gratitude.
namaste, Val
Hello,
My name is Lee. I live in Northern California, I'm 58 and single. My son just turned 35 this week and currently lives in Dubai where he'll be teaching documentary filmmaking on his Fulbright grant. I have a rich life filled with wonderful friends, gorgeous places to walk, a career that meets my need beautifully. I love to travel and in the last few years have been to Japan, S. Korea, China, Thailand and Cambodia where I always visit the Buddhist Temples so that I can express my gratitude for my life that I have been given.
I'm looking forward to being part of a community here of others who are Thankful.
Hi,
I am joining this group because this is something I find to be very important.
I don’t have a lot of time to participate in groups—but I do have time to come in and post something positive.
I am a Mother-Grandmother, Wife, Student, Team Leader, and Writer. These are a few of the roles I play in my daily life. I enjoy art and all forms of creative expression. I like to read, study, cook with my granddaughter and walk with my husband. I have two grown daughters--both in college.
I have two cats—I am very spiritual—not religious—I see the sacred in everything and in everyone—at least I do on good days. I live in Seattle, I am smack dab in the middle of some intense transformation in my personal life--EVERYTHING IS SHIFTING—so being part of a lovely community such as this sounds wonderful.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing from the heart.
Hi, my pen name is Claire and I live in so. France at a Tibetan Buddhist centre called Lérab Ling. Snowgum who is also on this team is one of my younger nun sisters. We've been encouraging and supporting each other on our Spark journey of weight loss and fitness and I appreciate very much having such a joyful companion on this journey.
I've been a nun for almost twelve years. After my marriage ended and the kids were grown it just seemed to be the right path for me and I'm so grateful that I made that choice.
I also am blessed with four wonderful grown children and 8 delightful grandchildren, all residing in California.
Please come visit me on my Spark Page, and I'll be joining you here often to share my gratitude.
Wow, I've been reading through the stories posted before me. What an awesome diverse group of people! emoticon
After going through a rough patch in life I started doing R&D for the purpose of improving how I live my life. The research brought me here, among other places, practicing gratitudes and getting healthy.
I live on a farm in Kansas, married, mother of 2 grown children, who have children of their own(one is autistic, one with Adhd)four in all.
I enjoy my animals, dogs and calves.
I like the cesar millan show, and the steve wilco show.They both dish out good common sense advice.
Thank you all for being here and being you!
Thank you all for sharing! I feel this is a "safe" place to be and enjoy returning day after day to find what is right in my life ...
I am the youngest of eight, so I tend to be a whiner ... even at age 50! :) So daily gratitudes are very important to keep me positive.
I own a family business and oversee 30 managers, creating strategies for improvement, dealing with customer complaints and handling all of our finances. I have been in this business since I was 8 years old except for a brief stint in broadcasting. All toll, we have 210 employees and sometimes the daily problems are overwhelming.
I took a mulligan on my first marriage which ended after 2 years. We have two children together.
My second marriage has been going for 24 years and is often a struggle which in my case causes much of my depression ... or so I think. I currently am in therapy to learn ways to make things better. I go alone. He is a great guy, I am working on accepting him wholly and stopping the incessant picking that I do. He recently lost his job but we have a few months severance.
My three children are grown. Two live in another state. The oldest is married but no kids. We worry about them as he quit college and struggles to make ends meet.
Our daughter recently returned to college and is doing well. She suffers from chronic eczema and we worry about her, too.
Our youngest lives at home, has graduated college and is planning to go back. He currently works for me and does a great job. He's growing ....
My choices have not been positive regarding my health and I joined Sparks to be as strong and healthy as possible. I did well and about 16 weeks ago when we expanded our business, all my routines went in the toilet. I want to get back to a strong sense of being, taking excellent care of myself.
Thank you again for coming back each day to make this community a positive experience for all.
Today, may I make good decisions that create positive outcomes and may I have wonderful, loving people in my life to share this awesome journey with.
"As Aristotle said, “We become what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.” The same can be said of enthusiasm, excitement, and passion. It is a habit, and a choice we make, moment by moment. "- Teresa Easler
Hello everyone. I have an abundance of gratitude most days. I am happy to be able to loan extra out to anyone who needs it .... in that pay it forward kind of way. My life presently has it challenges -- with physical fitness improvement as the current priority -- but compared to where I've been, this is joyful challenge. I am delighted to have found this place. Thank you for making and sharing this community with me.
Hi
I am Kathy, I was blessed with the most wonderful mom in the world who when she died 2 years ago lived in a tiny one room apt., she had macular degeneration so could see very very little yet she would wake up each day...sit in her chair and look out her window with the barely visible leaves shimmering in the wind and say "God what did I ever do to deserve a such a good life.".....I inherited that gift of gratitude (from god) through her....to feel such a sense of gratitude each day over the simplest of things that I often feel my heart will burst. I decided that we are suppose to feel that way so that we will take this spilling over heart and spill good into others lives due to our own abundance.
I am looking fwd to getting to know all of you.
Hello!My name is Ann. I'm a longtime wife, mother of 2 and grandmother of 1.
Singing,time with my almost 1year old granddaughter and working outside, esp. as labyrinth caretaker at my church, bring me joy.
I struggle with chronic pain and resulting depression. This effects my eating and my activity level...not in a good way!
I am contemplative in nature and in my spirituality. I am intentional about learning and growing in this.
Turning to gratitude has long been a way for me to lift my gaze during times of stress or depression. Expressing them in this forum publicly for the past couple of years has expanded this by adding the element of witness...and some accountability. When it is difficult for me to put anything into words, it is inspiring to read others' posts. Sometimes all I can do is read but often I feel strengthened and/or softened enough to go ahead with this practice.
Thanks for being here and sharing some of yourself.
peace to each,
~ann
Hello!
How delightful to learn things about previous cyberpals and newly met alike.
The decades of traveling and adventuring around the world have made me very content to hang close to my zip code, with a few exceptions for visiting friends in far away places.
I chose not to have children but a do share my life with a man who is younger than me. We have had a love affair for over 20 years and are best friends. We are dog people and currently cuddle, walk and vacuum up the hair of three treasured Jindo Kai hunting dogs. My former husbands continue to be strong friends too.
My loving parents were wonderful examples of honorable and diverse philosophies. Catholic/Atheist, Artist/Engineer, Fashion forward/Cowboy casual...etc. It put me in the fortunate place where I have felt free to enjoy lots of different careers and lifestyles.
I have returned to my native Colorado where I earn my living creating Medicine Shield Jewelry, strongly influenced by the honor I received in being adopted into the Eagle Clan of the Tsimpsean tribe and studies with Lynn V. Andrews teachings. I do my creating after a daily Magnified Healing Ceremony and let my 'intuition' guide me. I love my work from creating to marketing it on the website I made and maintain.
After losing my extra 50 pounds by diligently following a strict vegetarian diet I have become a pescatarian.
One of my always gratitudes is being in excellent health.
Jen here. Thank you for the invite,ATrans. I'm a 55 year old mother, grandmother, nurse and "Katrician". That's those of us who were affected and/or displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Boy, did THAT teach me a thing or 2 about gratitude!
I have times that I feel despair, but I try to slap myself upside the head and "snap out of it!" by counting the things I can be very grateful for.
Instead of missing my old life, I can be grateful that I now live close to my daughter and son and his wonderful wife and son. I get to spend good times with my grandson who, even though he is 14, still loves to spend time with me. He even calls and asks to spend weekends with me occasionally.
I don't have a car which enables me to see so much more of what is around me as I walk or bike from place to place.
I live in the old part of Largo, FL with brick streets and a weekly fresh market 2 blocks from my home. Sweet!
My daughter and I get together about once a month for lunch and a day out and about. We chat on the phone regularly. I feel very lucky that we are such good friends.
I have also lost ground en route to my healthiness goals, but am determined to make this year a truly healthy and positive one.
Thank you for having me here!
Hi, I'm Dee. I will be turning 50 this month, am married with 3 grown kids, and two small grandsons (1 & 3 y/o). I have 1 dog (6 mo old), and an older cat. I do MDS/careplans at a nursing home, which is stressful b/c of all the regulations and reimbursement requirements.
I have had a year or so of losing the ground I had attained in my journey to being as healthy as I could be. Somehow I slipped into a negative mode and have a strong desire to turn that around. I know of one SP friend (on another team) who has been the perfect example of leading a positive and grateful life. I used to be more like that -- and I want that back!
I look forward to getting to know everyone, and having others to keep me accountable and positive.
Hi, I'm Shana! I am 40, mom of 14 yr old boy, faithful servant to my canine companion, lifelong avid rider and horseperson, love to bake, read, refinish/decoupage furniture and objects. I work in the accounting field for major landscape management company. I am enjoying rediscovering myself as part of my weight loss and physical transformation and am intent on making this new phase of my life the best yet!
I became aware of the idea and positive effects of a daily gratitude practice several years ago from a magazine article, and an Oprah episode! My commitment was sporadic, but when I came across the Gratitude Thread here at Spark, the whole thing began to snowball for me and so many of these wonderful posters have opened my eyes to new resources and ideas about thanksgiving. It has, and continues to, change my life in the most splendid ways!
I am Amy. I am the mother of two wonderful boys, 7 years old and 8 months old. I have a great (most of the time) boyfriend that tries his best to be supportive. He is currently unemployed and we are starting to drive each other nuts.
I have recently realized the benefits of gratitude. By nature, I am a pretty negative person so that is something I am working on. I do not want to pass that trait onto my sons.
