Mcdougall does work - I lost 38 pounds last year and felt wonderful unfortunately I had a lot of family stress and fell into my old ways and gained 25 back.... I just started back up last week and have already lost 7 pounds and after the first couple of days detoxing off the fat, meat etc I feel wonderful. I need to come to term with the fact that this is the only way I can eat - my body loves it -
I have also mixed Dr. Furhman with Dr. McDougall's diets. I just started taking it seriously due to an abnormal echo stress test. Scary!! So, this is a real test for me. I have lost 9 pounds without even trying by eating tons of veggies in soups and stuff. If it comes in a box or a can, I don't eat it. I find I am not hungry at all. I feel more energy and more motivated to keep going. I also have less pain from my fibromyalgia and arthritis!! So, I intend to keep going with it. It does work!!

I feel that I've had success because I've lost 25 lbs. I may not be at goal yet, but I feel its a work in progress. I too mix Dr. McDougall & Dr. Fuhrman's plans. Dr. McDougall does advocate walking at least 60 minutes a day and that is a big part of the weight loss besides eating healthy. I know I need to exercise more and I'm working on that part of it.
Eating vegan does not guarantee weight loss. There are plenty of vegan junk foods. French fries and potato chips are vegan. I eat a cross between McDougall and Dr Fuhrman's "Eat To Live." The focus is on high nutrient foods, very minimal processed foods, lots of green veggies. The big difference is that McDougall allows more whole grains than ETL.
If you focus on whole foods, low fat, low sugar you should lose weight. If McDougall has "feast days" it's because he does not have any weight to lose! He's a very slim and trim guy. I would save "feast days" for after you have reached your goal weight. A little reward!

I want to lose 40 - 50 lbs and I have his book "Maximum Weight Loss" I have been flirting with going vegan and have notdone too badly but no weight loss. I am just concerned about the lack of 'good fat' in the diet. I know he's not vegan because he talks about eating turkey and ice cream on 'feast days' So if any one has positive comments would love to hear.
