I was wondering how you track your Paleo eating on here. But I think I'm just going to use it more for fitness, weight and of course, accountability/support. I think it would be difficult because you would be all over the charts on eating, etc.

I just started Paleo this morning. So far, so good. But it has only been 2 hours. Hey! Baby steps!! LOL

I had coffee with no creamer or sugar...HUGE step! And I make 2 scrambled eggs with mushrooms, peppers, garlic, and zucchini. It was really good.

I am on the really strict version of Paleo...so this is going to be a huge change, but I am looking forward to the long term benefits!

Because of Grace,
Kara

TRICEA, I personally don't track. I find that the more and longer I eat paleo, the less I feel a need to practice portion control, and can just eat the right amount and stop when I'm full. I weigh myself almost every day, so I would know if my weight started to go in the wrong direction. I'm about 8 pounds from my goal, and just letting the weight come off very slowly (a pound a month or so) and naturally. I suspect that limiting carbs more would increase the rate of weight loss better than tracking calories would.

Another problem I've found with tracking, is that I tend to have some lower calorie and higher-calorie days - i.e. if I have a 15 mile training run, I'm just going to be eating more, and if I do some heavy weight lifting, I'll be eating more, but then other days I do an intermittent fast (skip breakfast) and probably end up low on calories for the day. So my personal opinion is that once a person is at a place where they're not emotionally eating, and getting the right nutrients, tracking might be somewhat counter-productive to learning to listen and respond to the body's changing daily nutritional needs.

Hi! I'm new too and so far not having any problems with paleo foods. I'm about 3 weeks in. I'm curious though - do you long-time Paleos track your calories?

If so, do you follow what SP recommends, or do you find a BMR calculator? If I use SP I should eat between 1200-1550 to lose weight, but according to the BMR studies I should go no lower than 1657 and up to 2053 and still lose weight.

Of course I WANT to go with the higher numbers, I always feel like JUNK when I'm eating so few calories. But I want to LOSE these last few pounds....Any thoughts?

Thanks for the great ideas everyone! It's good for me to hear what other people are doing. I just started an 8 week weight loss challenge with some of my friends and most are looking at me weird for the paleo...but this is the first diet I've ever looked at and thought I could stick with (at least mostly) for the rest of my life. Can't wait to get in here and get to know you all better. I already feel welcome emoticon

Welcome!!! I just returned to paleo after being gone for a while! I also like a salad with a protein on it,or I just made a big pot of veggie chicken soup. I make my own beef jerky as I couldn't find one pre made that wasn't loaded with sugar!! I also bring nuts and seeds measured out in a little snack bag so I can't over do it!! Diane

I'm a big fan of jerky (hunt down one with no sugar!) and boiled eggs, too. Also bananas with almond butter (or apples w/almond butter).

This week's lunch was mashed sweet potato, a sliced apple chicken sausage (watch the ingredients on these), steamed green beans and a tiny bit of crumbled blue cheese (if you allow dairy). It reheats very well.

Hi Sunny, I'm new to the team as well, and don't follow a strict paleo diet, but as far as lunch and snack ideas, I thought I'd share a few.

If you google Paleo Bread or Paleo Muffins, you'll find lots of good ideas. I like to make paleo banana bread to keep around as a snack or quick breakfast. I haven't found the perfect recipe yet, but they've all been tasty. The easiest lunch I've found it simply tuna or chicken salad with lots of added veggies (green onion, celery, bell peppers, parsley) and dressed with salt, pepper, lemon juice and olive oil. You could put this in lettuce wraps or over a green salad if you'd like. We're coming out of winter now, but when it's cold, I also like to have soups for lunch - anything with some meat and lots of veggies in it. I personally like to add a little potato, and that makes it filling, but not all paleos like to eat white potato.

Beef jerky and hard boiled eggs are good, portable snacks, as are nuts and of course fruits. Some veggies, like carrot and celery sticks, are also portable and do OK without refrigeration. I find I can eat carrot, celery and bell pepper strips without any dip. Broccoli and cauliflower require some dip to eat raw, and guacamole would be a good choice to dip them in.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the team but not to Spark. I'll admit I've been off of Spark for awhile due to having so much on my plate in life, but now I've decided to give paleo a go and thought this would be a great place to come for information and support. I would love to hear your lunch and snack ideas because that is where I'm having the most trouble. Can't wait to get to know everyone :) ~Mary
