I started my first Whole 30 June 7th after 11 months Paleo. I'm feeling really great today...I felt like my meals were really satisfying the first few days but felt a little lethargic. However I feel really good now and I think it's going to carry on the rest of the time now that I got over the initial "hump."

I'm actually blogging my whole experience if you want to follow along...http://chowbellabycassie.blogspot.

Congrats on sticking with the plan - love it when the scale moves, but for me the NSV are the what's really great about the "lifestyle".

Hi Everybody,

Well, it's done and dusted!!! Ok, so tomorrow it is done and dusted, but I have done it. It has been an amazing process. My life has really turned Paleo, I am out there hunting and gathering, working, running, getting excited about everything. About 10 days ago a huge surge of energy hit me, and I couldn't believe it. I ran about as if I was in my twenties and am so excited.

Thanks for being with me through out the challenge, guys. I just completely recommend it to anybody who dares to try, and I will continue on. However, I might not be a strict on myself. I think I will take the opportunity to be a bit more flexible, because the only problem was eating with others. You can only push so much to the side of your plate without it appearing rude. But, that is only a once in a while thing.

Oh, on the weight front, I have lost five kgs and a size in pants. My belt has pulled in four notches, so about two inches. I have much more energy, my skin looks fantastic, and my life is streaming along.

Smile! Today is the tomorrow you hoped for yesterday! :D

Hi Everybody,

I am now at day 9 of the 30 day challenge, and yesterday was an interesting one. Last night I was craving like something silly. My saves were that I had nothing naughty in the house, and that I really do value this plan. However, this morning I sneaked out the scales. I suppose I needed external encouragement... well more external encouragement than being able to do my belt up an extra notch.

Kindness,
Danuta

Smile! Today is the tomorrow you hoped for yesterday! :D

I just asked my mother if she'd like to start Whole 30 with me after we get back from visiting my grandmother. Hopefully she says yes because it could so help us both!

Yeah, I think with Primal/Paleo, weight loss is not the primary goal, it is health. I didn't lose any weight for at least 3 weeks, while I know others report losing immediately. Then when it started coming off it was fairly consistent.

I made the mistake of only measuring my waist when I started so I can't document all the changes, but they have been many. I have lost over 5 inches off my waist. Have had to buy a new wardrobe - twice - so far.

The other non-scale victories are improved energy, mental and physical, way less inflammation in my body, better digestion, less bloating. better sleep.

I encourage you to measure if you haven't, and track other non-scale changes in your body/health.

Stay Strong

Thanks Egalitaire and Noritaarf,
I like the fact that I can eat if I am hungry, and that I don't have to worry too much about oils etc. I would love to know how the weightloss works with the Paleo diet. I went out today, and I actually weigh more than I did a few months ago, but the dress fitted much better, my waist is more defined, and even the pudgy parts are not as bulging as they were. I get that I don't weigh myself while on the 30 challenge, but what do I expect to experience on my journey.

BTW: had a lunch date with a friend today. Nothing was appropriate on the menu, but there was 12hr slow roasted lamb, but it came with other stuff. The chef was happy to serve with a garden salad, gluten free and dairy free. Is vinegar on this version of the diet. It was allowed in the course I was doing. I am from a Slavic background, and we have been using vinegar for eons. But I will ditch it for the 30 Day Challenge. :D

Smile! Today is the tomorrow you hoped for yesterday! :D

Not saying go crazy, but the standard calories in, calories out seems to be less applicable when eating primal. Many people are able to eat when they're hungry, enough to feel sated and then not again until hungry.

Many find they are actually eating fewer calories with more energy and weight loss.

Learning to listen to what our bodies actually need to perform optimally is one of the peripheral benefits of primal/paleo.

DANUTAELECTRA, if you are hungry, eat! You have to replace the calories from grains and dairy with something; meat and veggies are great. Eating fat, it will help you feel satiated. avocado, coconut oil, live oil and meat are all good to help you feel satiated.

Ok, I am three days in. I can't believe I am eating a large handful of nuts each day to make up the calories that I can't get without killing a cow and eating the whole thing. Yesterday, I had the tiniest bit of fish for dinner and a plate of steamed vege just because that is what I wanted to eat. Can't believe it. The danger zone was a cafe visit today. I had a salad, asked about their dressing and told them to hold it, then asked them about their chicken. The guy must have thought I was mad, he gave me that sort of look. But hay, I walked another 3K after lunch, so it can't have been a poor choice.

I have decided to start on Monday, because today is Mother's day and the kids are cooking Italian food. Still, I don't have to eat much of it, and I can have raw egg and juice breakfasts, which I love. I can make an alternate choice.
Let's do it together Kiwi.

day 2, check and over....feeling edgy with minor sugar cravings and disruptive sleep. I remember this from my last Whole 30. I know it gets better but yikes I hate when you are in the middle of it....trudging along....

Thanks - doing great so far, but hey it's only day 2. One day at a time. This will go directly into a 35-day clean eating challenge our box is putting on starting 5/26.

My hardest thing to resist will be my red wine on- especially on the weekend.

Two of my friends already cheated on day 1.

Tammy good luck avoiding the scale. I wasn't able to do that. I had to have some feed back. Love the 50 burpee penalty! I started the challenge w/ a bunch of friends from crossfit and every dang one of them cheated or quit early, some just a few days in! weak.

Just started yesterday with a group of friends. We did measurements, fat % and weight on Sunday. Did great yesterday and feeling good so far today. Have a 50 burpee penalty for any missteps.

Hard for me to avoid the scale, but that's what I will do for next 30 days.

I just finished my first Whoel30. Here is My whole30 Paleo summary - Proud to say I managed to not "cheat" at all. I am 42 yr old female. 5'4" 125# run and crossfit everyday. I have high blood pressure, high resting pulse rate and irregular heartbeat. I was hoping paleo would help me get off my meds that make me insane(r). Without meds my resting heart rate is 100-120, and my bp is usually around 145/100+.
April 1st with meds bp=131/95 pulse 91,
May 1st (no meds all month)118/79 pulse 71
I lost 11#, 2 1/2" in my fat little belly and 1 1/4" in my hips. I didn't measure my chest, don't wanna know. My body fat dropped 4% while my water content increased by 2%. I'm sticking with it until Friday. Taking a cheat day then back on at least until June 1st. I hate to admit that my crappy diet had a huge role in my heart health. hmph!

It is Paleo for sure just really strict....I do it because it helps me with skin issues (rosacea) and bloating from thyroid issues. I sleep much better and have less stress, more zen. The key is the organic, non antibiotic meats and no dairy or grains for me which I think I have low level allergy to all.
When I do Paleo/ I feel so much better all around. Whole 30 is a 30 day detox which kicks your lazy butt into this new way of eating. NO CHEATING ALLOWED. No 80/20. Slay the sugar dragon....

The Whole30 is basically is stricter version of the paleo diet-- meaning no grains, diary, or added sugar of any kind. So lots of veggies, meats/eggs (preferably grass-fed and free range to maximize the health benefits), and some fruit and nuts mixed in there. For a lot of people it can lead to weight loss, but it's primary goal is to kick people in the butt and shake them of their standard habits that include grain and sugar addictions. It's also a great diet for people who suspect they may have slight food allergies and want to check most of the common players (corn, soy, wheat, etc).

So far I haven't lost any weight (according to how my clothes fit), but I have noticed a decrease in my cravings, and I feel like I have more control over my previously uncontrollable binges. I don't think I have any food allergies, but I have had bloodwork in the past that could indicate a low-grade gluten intolerance, so we'll see!

Just started today as well. I will be doing this with intermittent fasting. Oh ... I forgot to measure myself, will do it tomorrow. Promised not to use scale - very difficult !
Wish you all good luck

P.S. I suggest to post measurements to encourage, or tweak things.

Good for you! I am 9 days into my first Whole30, so I can say with some confidence that although it might be difficult at first, you're going to start to feel better, and then you're going to feel really proud of yourself, and you'll be able to coast through 30 days with no problem! I haven't lost any weight that I can tell visually (no scale allowed!), but my energy levels are more stable and I'm generally in a better mood. Plus my insane binges and cravings have mostly subsided.

You can do this!
