I agree with you CINDYTW.
I'm glad to hear someone else is eating sweet potatoes / yams, too.
Unfortunately, many veggies simply don't agree with me. I'm reduced to string/snap beans (green or yellow), carrots and beets in moderation (our doctor frowns on the sugar! sheesh), and -unfortunately- winter squash. I can eat small amounts of summer squash, and mushrooms (yum!), but other than salad, most others are "out" for me. I've tried ... but the dietary "lesson" I get just isn't worth it. I feel so guilty eating the sweet potatoes ... they're so full of starch! and we know that goes straight to carbs, alas. But I have to eat SOME veggies! even if they're not on the class-A list!

I don't eat processed foods, nor grains, nor soy, and try to make sure any meats that have any appreciable fat are pastured. Along with whatever dairy and eggs. I do succumb to fruit that I probably overindulge with ... like frozen grapes. mmmm But overall, I do keep my carbs as close to 70-ish as I can. I fall off that intent sometimes, but it's my aim, at least.

It's good to know there's others out there not on the "real skinny" with the low-carb.

Yeah I have been on low carb. This is really low carb "LITE". You can have a lot more like fruit and sweet potatoes (I even eat regular potatoes as they are not a grain), but low carb differs in that it is hardcore and allows processed crap and artificial sweeteners and grains if the net carbs are OK. To me, that is not healthful. I think whatever carb level you are on, you should stay away frm the processed crap, sweeteners and grains and stick to whole foods.

Thanks so much for the kind words, I have not looked into the leptin resistance I have been mostly focused on HS-CRP levels, Omega 3 vs Omega 6; and overall inflammatory processes in the body and how diet can combat those. I have read a lot of research with wheat and how it inflames the GI tract which is the gateway to a lot of different disorders.

I will look into the other low carb forums! Though I adhere to lower carb but not enough to be in Ketosis!

We're glad you're here, too!

There are actually several low-carb forums on SP ... you might want to check them all out, since most of the people on those others "commute" between them all, too. They ask similar questions and have similar issues, and I'm very sure you'd be a great resource to them! I hope we can also be a resource to you, too.

You're absolutely right about inflammatory diseases and diet. I'm inspired by your goal in Clinical Nutrition! I don't know if you've read it, but Dr Jack Kruse has a great blog on leptin resistance, and several other sites online have excellent information on dietary metabolism. I hope you'll look into them and share your insights with us.

Glad to have you on the team!

Hello everybody I have loosely followed the Paleo diet for the past 4 years due to many reasons and this year, 2012, I have decided to get serious about it. Every time I stick with this diet I feel better, I sleep better and I have more energy.

I lecture on anti-inflammatory diet (very close to Paleo) at community centers where I live and I encourage my patients that have been diagnosed with any type of inflammatory disorder to look to this diet for symptom relief. My goal is to get my masters in Clinical Nutrition starting in 2013 to better help my patients and have a deeper understanding of how diet and biochemistry interact in our bodies.

When I got back on Spark People I was so excited to see that there is a team for Paleo!
