Omega 3s and omega 6s should be consumed in balance. It is much easier to eat omega 6s with conventional meats and nuts, so supplement with fish oil and omega 3-enhanced eggs. Medium-chain saturated fats, like those in coconut, are processed quickly in the liver. Even though coconut is high in saturated fat, the medium chains are broken down quickly compared to long-chain saturated fats, so studies suggest they are good for your metabolism.

If you are worried about carbs from fruit, check out this article:

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/how-to-su
cceed-with-the-primal-blueprint/

It spells everything out so easily!

Also, do not be afraid of fat from the proper sources (ie: extra virgin olive and coconut oil, avocado, grass-fed meat). I cannot speak for everyone, but it may satisfy you a lot more than fruit.

I saw the "best commercials" on the Today Show today. One of them was a gal who was eating a stick of butter. The camera crew and everyone seemed to groan in disgust when they saw it. They weren't playing to the right audience? lol Hmmm, butter (and macadamia nuts, TMMYCAT)!

Sometimes you just gotta laugh. Can't find the commercial, or I'd share it. Anyhewww. :P

I also gained weight when I started the paleo diet... I think for me it was because of nuts. Little did I know that macadamia nuts are just as calorie-dense as butter. Now I'm minimizing nuts and losing inches successfully even though I eat plenty of fruit.

Dotslady, I lost 1.5 pounds this week. I'm staying encouraged. Knowing this is a life style change and not a diet. Did cut back on fruit especially bananas. Staying with the berries mostly. Have 2 weddings this week. Hope they are serving things I can eat.

Had dinner with relatives on Tuesday. They fixed lasagna. I took mahi with me and coconut ice cream for dessert. emoticon

Hey, it's okay with me; I was raised on British literature so while I grew up in So Cal I became "bi-lingual" LOL! I still spell things Brit style sometimes for fun and for colour. I love that extra vowel; so cool!

I eat up to 6 srvgs of fruit a day! I know I know - I need to cool it - true, as I have not lost, but I have not GAINED either. My questions would be to ask about your 'cycle' rhythm? What time is dinner? Do you get enough sleep? I would like to see your food journal/tracker, too. Are your foods heavy or light? ie needing more veg??? I need more veg....

(I grew up w/fibre, too! ;) When I moved to the States I got marked wrong for spelling 'color' 'colour' ... teacher gave me back my point after she realized I was parlez 'vousing' en Francais." lol)

The good thing about getting sugar from whole fruit is that the fiber does help our bodies to deal with it much better than when we drink juice or eat something with HFCS. Still, we can overdo it.

Thanks for this list! Interesting that some of Mark Sisson's "best" fruits are higher on the scale (think pears). Like apples they are a good source of fibre (me too with the RE, lol).

Yes, and not all fats work the same. I don't claim to know all the stuff on fats; I read about it a lot but I forget all the details LOL! But saturated fats aren't as negative for the body as some of the nut and seed oils. So maybe you are going just a little overboard on the almond butter. Is it made with raw almonds? or roasted? Raw would give better results. Maybe cut back on the oil and seed oils (butter) and consume more coconut oil and dairy butter and meat fats.
Just an idea.
Yes, too much fruit can hinder weight loss especially the higher fructose ones like oranges, bananas and apples. But don't give them up completely (particularly apples) because of the fiber (that's "fibre" for you Laura) that is SO needed to process the fructose in a positive way. Somewhere there is a list of fruits and their fructose levels. Hmmmm, maybe I can find it

Yeah. I only eat a single piece of fruit maybe every other day. I take a "phytoberry" shot in my protein drink (i get it at the health food store) It contains antioxidants from whole fruit, without the fructose and calories of the fruit.

Thank you Jennie and Molliemac. I will cut back on the almond butter and limit my fruit this week and see how I do. I believe I do get enough fat (that is one thing I am always over when I run my nutritional report each day.) I do work out hard so I hope that 1 lb gain is muscle.

Will report back next week to let you now how I did.

I agree with Jennie but I would also cut back on the nut butter- that's a lot of fat calories from one source, especially if you are eating other sources of good protein. Also, are you working out hard every day? You may have added a pound of muscle!

Fruit is most likely the culprit! Fruit is simply sugar. I suggest cutting back to maybe 1 serving of fruit a day and eat berries over others. I personally don't eat fruit but maybe once a week. I would cut the fruit first. If you are still not losing or not like you thought you would, I wold then cut the nut butters out.
You should see results from eating less fruit. Also, are you getting enough fat?

Hi,
I have been counting calories but have had more success on lower carb diets so I decided to try Paleo.

I started SparkPeople 2 months ago. Have lost 5 pounds. I was eating what I wanted but keeping my calories at 1200 and working out 5 days a week. When I didn't loose anything for 4 straight weeks, I started the Paleo Diet last Monday. Got on the scale a week later and am a pound up. AARGH!

I am completely off grains and legumes. I'm eating protein at each meal and eating fruits and veggies. My daughter is on this diet as well and lost 4 lbs the first week. She asked me how much fruit I was eating.

IS 3 SERVINGS OF FRUIT TOO MUCH ON THIS DIET?

I do love almond butter and usually eat about 4 tbls a day. Could that be my hang up?

Any help would be appreciated.
