Hi,
I first heard about Paleo just over a year ago when I joined a CrossFit facility. I bought the book and cookbook and they are helpful. I used to use South Beach and from what I see (correct me if I am wrong), Paleo is similar but stricter than the phase 1 of South Beach. I do find that when I do eat Paleo-ish (since I still eat bits of cheese) I feel so much better.
A friend of mine recently turned me on to Spark People. With the help and support of others I feel I have a much stronger chance of success than on my own.
I joined the Paleo Diet Team in hopes to gain some insights on this lifestyle and the changes that come with it.

Hello!
I've been grain and sugar free since July and discovered the Paleo lifestyle at Marks Daily Apple in September. I've lost 25 pounds total, but none in the past 3 months. I've decided to try and lose the last 15 pounds here at SP.

I had no serious illness prior to converting, but did so to try and lose weight and feel better overall. Since July I've not been sick with cold or flu, I've had no acne, I sleep better, look better (25 pounds less!) and, yes, I definitely feel GREAT!

I wish more people around me ate this way!

I live in the St. Louis area and work in a casino (dealer).

I'm happy to be a part of this team

Hi, I'm Lisa and new to this team. A friend suggested the Paleo plan, so I just bought a book today, and think I will perhaps try to implement changes to my eating habits. Came to this team to get advice and direction. I have had great success with counting calories for the past two years, I've lost 96 pounds to date, but my weight has hit a plateau and I am very frustrated. My friend suggested Paleo, so I am at least educating myself about it and I'll go from there.

Hello! I'm so excited that I found this team! My bootcamp coach suggested the paleo diet, and I've gradually been transitioning into it for the past two weeks. I'm aiming for this week to be my first solid 85/15 week. Already, I have so much more energy, I sleep better, and I've lost around 7 lbs. And I love food! Not in a "I have to eat as much as possible" but because I am finally seeing the connection between what I prepare and then put into my body and how it fuels me. It's a very exciting connection. :)

Welcome! I understand the slow wind up part. I first started looking into this late last Summer and only began in earnest in January. THAT'S OKAY!!

My mantra has always been:

Baby steps...baby steps.

Consider the 30 day challenge once you get going. Blog about it. I am only going into Day 3 of my blog and it's helping a TON!

Best of luck to you guys and keep coming back!

Hello all! My fiance and I are starting this diet hardcore at the beginning of next month and beginning a gradual easing into it now. We eat a ton of bread and pasta, and we eat out at least a couple of times a week, so this is going to be tough for us, or at least it will be for me. At least he's enthusiastic about it; me, not so much. I definitely don't agree with the fasting component of it, but I am looking forward to eating less processed stuff, and cooking at home more often. I'm glad this team is here!

Yeah. I just found out Robb has new forum on his site and he even has autoimmune section and subsections to that and I just started up a Fibromyalgia section. I am being considered or they said they wanted me for their autoimmunity study that Cordain is doing so that should be interesting. I started up this autoimmunity section here out of desperation and then I go on Robbs site later on in the day and realize he has set this up and folk are already responding and only one week! My guess is few here will be interested and more folks who are into Paleo will be focused on that site. I may just close this one.

Hi all. I have just found this site a few days ago!

My husband and I have been following Dr. Cordain's autoimmune version of the Paleo Diet for about two months now. The different is no eggs or nightshades from his regular Paleo Diet.

The changes have been almost miraculous. I have Fibromyalgia and I would say that upwards of 50% of my pain is gone. The weight has literally been dropping off of us and we cheat which is allowed up to three meals a week.

We had no idea how inflamed we were until after the first two weeks when it was clear our puffiness was receding significantly.

I just started off another team that will address Dr. Cordain's autoimmunity Paleo vision if any of you are interested in more strict adherence for health reasons please stop by. Yes Dr. Cordain allows 3 meals or 15% of meals to be non Paleo but if you have dairy, salt etc regularly this team would not be for you.

Since this is a new version Dr. Cordain has introduced not much out there online to help out so this will be a place where folks can swap recipes, cooking methods and progress. This is more difficult to follow since fewer options so we have to get creative.

New to this so bare with me as I figure out how to maneuver this new software.

I just started the Paleo lifestyle yesterday. So far, so good.

My main goal is to get healthy and lose weight. I think this way of eating will help me because carbs are the food I love to binge on. Ice cream, pasta, chips, you name it.

Hopefully I'll be able to stick with it!

Just wanted to say hello. I have been eating Paleo since October(following Robb Wolfs book) Didn't really see any results, so I have cleaned up even further for the month of Jan with no caffeine, no sugar, no alcohol....and no SCALE! (Whole30) So I am not sure how the weight loss component will change but I feel awesome! Like many other Paleo peeps, I also do Crossfit.....at an affiliate for almost a year. Thanks for letting me join in!

Hi all!

My name is Megan. I'm a 22 year old college student (almost done!) that is getting married in about 8 months. I read about the PaleoDiet in a magazine and decided to try it. I have been a member of Spark for over 5 years. (Jeez- has it really been that long already) emoticon

I fell off the wagon a couple of times, but all total, I have lost about 90 pounds (which I have regained a couple, again). I really want to try to work on losing these last 30 or so pounds before my wedding, and though that this lifestyle change would really help me.

This will be somewhat hard for me because I have a emoticon carb addiction emoticon but I have taken all of the carbs (bread, grains, etc.) out of my cupboard and have replaced them with veggies and fruit and meat. emoticon
I know that I will need all the support I can get!

Welcome Pammie! You have come to the right place!!

My top weight was just under 290 in 2002. I got it down to 185 and then went a subsequent regain...after several years of being at the lower weight (but not to goal). During that time I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, Casein Allergy and multiple food sensitivities. Gallbladder came out, hypothyroidism kicked in. Bad menopause.

My point in sharing all this history? Paleo works. It is the ONLY pathway that works for me. I'm at 215 and finally losing again. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

The support here is encouraging, enlightening, humorous and full of hope. We are all in the battle of wanting to be healthy, so you go girl!!

Hi everyone, my name is Pam. I'm forty-eight years old and I have a good 120 to 130 pounds to lose. I've been seriously cleaning up my diet for the last year and lost about thirty pounds. Now I'm ready to take that to the next level. I had been reading up on paleo on advice of an acquaintance, but upon reading "The Four Hour Body" by Tim Ferris, I decided to give it a shot.

The good news is that I can cook and I love vegetables. (c:

I'm also chirping at getting my husband in on this with me. He's quite reluctant (even though he loves meat and veggies - he also loves his white stuff), so even if he doesn't get on this bandwagon with me, hopefully his competitive nature will get him to give it a try when he sees my success.

emoticon Hi Candice and welcome back. What a wonderful example you are setting by refusing to allow a setback to cause you to give up! I am also quite new to the Paleo Diet so I will be looking forward to hearing some of the tips you have to share.

Grokgranny has started two topics which are worth reading and which you may find helpful as you begin again - especially the 'New Paleo Start Wisdom'. The other one is entitled Food Sensitivity Testing which you may find interesting and has posts from others who have a lot of experience and knowledge.

Also, if you are looking for support and accountability for the Paleo Diet you may want to join in the 30 Day Challenge. You set your goal(s) for the month and then report your success, pitfalls, recipes, tips. We would love to have you join us.

We are wishing you success and will be cheering for you.

Welcome HOME Candice! I am new (as of this past week) to these boards, as well. We have ALL fallen from time to time, so just give yourself a hearty pat on the back. The porch light was left on!

In less than 1 week, I have found these people so kind, encouraging, WISE and wonderful. Please check back often and I will add you to my "friend list." Please feel free to do the same!

Hello team!

My name is Candice and I am a lapsed Paleo member in Edmonton, Alberta. I did really well with this lifestyle for a few months then fell into the processed cycle, and I am slowly climbing my way back. Need to finish off a pot of turkey barley soup and I'll be good to go! I can't wait to have my energy back!

Hi Zoey, I am so glad you are doing well and flurishing. I definately relate to the improvements you mentioned in following this diet. I also have energy and feel great! My weight is slowly going down and I don`t feel deprived or thinking about food all the time. I love the simplicity and ease of implementing the Paleo way of eating.

Celiac and Gluten Intolerance do have similar symptoms to Crohn`s disease. It also has similar symptoms to other health problems.

One of the upsides is that the only successful way to treat Gluten Intolerance or Celiac Disease is through correct diet. No costly medication with side effects. Now with the Paleo Diet the transition is doable by focusing on vegetables, fruit, lean protein, and nuts.

Thankyou for the explanation Yvonne ! (That almost sounds like the symptoms of Crohn's disease.)
From what I have read , this lifestyle of eating seems to completely restore some very serious health problems .
For myself , the last week since I started this I have had an overall feeling of thriving and balance . In a week I can feel the difference in my clothes and as I said in my earlier post, I have been able to enjoy a day without feeling hungry and craving food. ....Yay !!
Are you feeling some of the same ? emoticon

emoticon Hi Zoeyblu - If you have a gluten intolerance you could have a wide range of symptoms. The most common are: diarrhea, nausea, bloating, gas, abdominal pain, cramping, joint pain, fatigue, numbness - especially of hands or feet, or a severe itchy rash. Most of us have a combination of symptoms while others just one or two.

Hello! I am new to the group. I have just begun reading the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf. Once I have completed the book, I plan on starting to cut out the foods. I currently follow a low sugar, low yeast, gluten free diet.

emoticon Hi Everyone, I am looking forward to being part of this team. I am interested in the Paleo Diet because apart from needing to lose weight I have Celiac Disease. This diet seems an easy way to stay on track with the focus being on protein, fruits, vegetables. The bonus for me is the cutting out of the expensive gluten free grains and flours!

So, mainly I am here because the Peleo Diet is an simple way to heal my body while at the same time work towards a healthy weight ... and I still have a lot of weight to lose!

I shall be cheering for you all.

Hi! I finally completely switched over to paleo about 2 weeks ago... I was extremely hesitant to give up my pre-workout english muffin because I swore that I would pass out if i didnt have "carbs"! I have more energy, i feel great and I think this will be the lifestyle I follow for the rest of my life. I just feel good.

Hi, I've heard about this diet before, but I never got into it. Now that my schedule is less hectic, I'm hoping to adopt these eating habits as best as I can.

Ec? Interesting note here.

Native Americans used to be very healthy. Then the government put them in restricted spaces, fed them government issued white flour, lard, etc. Suddenly diabetes, etc was rampant. And no one saw the connection?

I've been exploring the paleo diet for a little while now, and it makes sense. I do low-carb most of the time. I don't do well with grains. Rice maybe once a week or less. I eat very, very little processed foods. I do one or two partial-fast days a week. I'm hypothyroid and need to lose a total of 50 lbs, and I've lost 17 lbs already by doing what I've just mentioned. But once I get to my goal, I want something I can live with- I don't want to stop a "diet" just to rebound all the weight back.
I hope to learn more about the Paleo lifestyle in the days ahead.
BTW, cheers to ANYONE who dares to go against the traditional (gov't promoted) food pyramid. It's what led to most of my health issues to start with.

I am do some research on the Paleo Diet right now. I plan on starting as soon as I get back home from Iraq. I found out 6 months ago that I have Kidney failure, I am reading the Paleo Diet book right now and am praying it will help improve my kidney function. I am excited to see others progress and hopefully start noticing a difference myself.

Good luck to all.

I'm not totally Paleo and don't intend to be, but I have enough tendencies this way that I am joining this team to learn more. I do some dairy (cheese) and the occasional bread thing, and I don't really understand the restriction on ALL legumes since I eat my peas and my string beans raw straight from the garden since I find them tastiest that way. And also, an occasional -- very occasional -- interlude around dark chocolate. And okay, yes, I do do the coffee bean thing. But back in the day we hunted/gathered because we needed food, not because of office politics.

That nonwithstanding, there's something really good to be said about considering how our ancestors ate, before we started pushing the envelope.

Got rid of the ticker cuz my scale decided to flatter me unduly. I haven't re-gained, just got a better, honest, scale.

Just because you steam it, doesn't mean you can't add herbs and spices. (A gripe at those insipid restaurant "healthy choice" menu selections.)

Hi-
I'm new to this team but not SP.
My husband and I went Paleo 5 weeks ago. I absolutely love it! There's no going back.
I'm so glad that SP has a team for this.

Hi - I spent the last month going towards Paleo. The past week I have been following the Whole30 program on the http://whole9life.com/category/whole-30/ website.

I don't have a problem with the food choices/restrictions, but I am having some digestive problems. I am hoping this all passes, we shall see.

Also, just started Crossfit - doing the WOD's at home and really loving and intensity of the program.

Hi, I guess I'm new. I'm not totally paleo since I love dairy and occasionally indulge in some homemade bread or tortillas, but I'm close enough that I think I can fit in around here. :)
