Hi! I'm totally new to Primal/Paleo. Hoping to relieve digestive issues that have plagued me for a few years, and get back into shape. While I am being very strict initially, I am wondering if my digestive issues require relinquishing even more types of foods to heal my gut.

Hello I'm Char,
My husband and I have been Paleo since November of 2013. We were strict Paleo from Nov 2013-Jan 2014 for a Challenge thru dh's CrossFit place. I lost 20 lbs. during the challenge. Dh asked if I wanted to make this a lifestyle. I said I would be willing to make it a lifestyle if we did 80/20% instead of everyday being a strict 100%. So we are guess more Primal then Paleo. I was missing my caf mocha's during the challenge. I'm not allergic to dairy so I have 1 cup of grass fed milk per day in the morning (mixed with 2 oz. of espresso and 1 oz. of melted 72% - 86% dark chocolate. I'm going to try and cut it back to only having it a couple times a week come June and I'm off work and make it more of a treat instead of daily habit. Want to drink more green tea instead. Dh has more 100% days then I do since he doesn't drink milk in his coffee he has always drank nothing adding to his coffee.

I have gained some of the weight back over the last couple of months and feel the need to get back closer to 100% Paleo again. Feel Summer time will be easier since I'll be off work.

Hello there! I am new to the board and new to the Paleo lifestyle. My husband and cousin have pulled me in with their amazing results of weight loss, clear skin and disappearing digestive issues! I look forward to getting helpful tips and taking this journey with other Paleo life stylists!

I will NOT feel deprived when I bypass junk food. I will feel empowered that I made the healthy choice.

If you are persistent, you will get it. If you are consistent, you will keep it.

Hi All - I'm Hana. I joined the team last week, but wasn't sure I was ready to take the Paleo plunge yet. I got myself into gear this year and had some success dropping weight and getting healthier with a prescribed detox as I've been suffering for years with skin problems, sciatica, back and joint pain and wanted to take my life back. After the detox, I wanted to continue my success, so I followed the Fast Metabolism Diet for 28 days. I lost a bit more on that, but knew it was not a sustainable way to eat/live. So, I've just kind of been 'winging it' getting exercise in daily and trying to eat 'sensibly' (whole grains, yada-yada), but not doing a very good job of it.

Well, the weight started coming back on, along with the joint pain, face breaking out, back decided to go on me and I knew that it was all due to my diet. I had been reading up on Paleo and realised that it was very similar (yet not quite as restrictive) as the detox I had done. After about 2 weeks of (procrastination) research, I have decided this is the lifestyle that I want for myself (and hopefully, my family too!).

I'm starting the Primal Blueprint 21-day program tomorrow (officially), but have cut out all grains since last Thursday and am amazed at the results already! The sciatica is GONE! Joint inflammation is down and my back is twinge-free. My face is clearing up and I dropped three of the 5 pounds I gained back. I think this is definitely going to work for me!!

Hi FFXMOMMY and emoticon to the team.

Acceptable paleo/primal carbs include:

Yams
Sweet potatoes
Yucca

... here is link to a list of all acceptable carbs, it is a complete list that also includes fruit, but you can just skip that section:

Hi and emoticon

Here is the link to the team thread with instructions on how to get started:

www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=0x28224x608R>68758

.. the reset is basically eliminating all non-paleo/primal foods for 30 days and then slowly one by one, re-introduce the foods that you would like to eat. There are many resets but I follow Chris Kresser's... here is an outline:

www.chewfo.com/diets/your-personal-p
al
eo-code-by-chris-kresser-2013-food-lR>ist/

I am doing monthly resets because I don't consider this a quick fix and although I may reintroduce foods back in gradually I still need to be accountable and I like the structure/guidelines of the reset. Keeps me on track.

I have created a May reset challenge thread to post:

Meals
Exercise
Questions, etc.

I use it as a reference to keep track of what I am doing and it also motivates me to see what others are doing, here is the link:

www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes

I try to post daily, but if not, at least some part of the week. Take a look at the thread when you get a chance. I hope you join us in the reset, if you have any questions let me know.

Hello, im sally .............i've been plagued by severe, chronic eczema for many years. I've gone to several Dr.s and Skin Dr.s and they just give me different steroid ointments and prednisone. The weekend past, I went to a women's retreat and another woman sat next to me and gently put her hand on mine and asked Eczema? I nodded yes because i couldn't speak due to her kindness and my pain. Well it must have been divine intervention because she told me her story about years of the same suffering and told me how she got rid of hers . NO Grain including corn, no root veggies, no Dairy, no nightshades and NO SUGAR. Nothing processed. I tried starting on Saturday. and ive lost 4 pounds already.

im over retirement age. Just divorced after 38 yrs . have 3 kids adult kids and i have 5 grandchildren and I take care of my dad and i take art classes.

Im looking forward to meeting you all here on sparks and learning from you and sharing.

thanks. sally

Hi! My name is Vickie and my husband and I have been doing a somewhat-paleo diet since the beginning of the year. Mostly, we try to go grain free. We do have our moments of weakness, though. :) Initially, I lost 5 pounds in the first week or so. Since then I've started exercising (couch to 5K) and try to eat good overall. Have not lost any more weight! Ugh! Does anybody have tips on getting enough carbs for energy? I have to somewhat limit my fruit intake as I'm fructose intolerant. :(

-Vickie

Hi I am Nola from near Perth Western Australia. I have been in maintenance since August last
year. I love Paleo. I have been doing it for about 6 months now and I am sure that is why it is easier for me to stay in maintenance. I look forward to getting to know everyone and make some new Spark Friends.

emoticon to the team DEBBIE...

Well, the Paleo/primal lifestyle worked for me last year. I posted my stats earlier in this thread but here are my before/after results I accomplished in just 2 months::

Weight: 176/158
LDL: 127/107
Cholesterol: 187/167

I can honestly say that I love this lifestyle.

We are doing 30 day resets every month if you would like to join in. A small group of us post on the: ~ Support & Challenges ~ thread www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=11888x28224R>x61090901&src=email

We post our meals, exercise, ask questions, inspire, motivate and support each other everyday, or as often as possible. It doesn't matter what paleo/primal lifestyle plan you follow, i.e., Whole 30, Chris Kresser, Primal Blueprint (Mark Sisson), The Paleo Solution (Robb Wolf), etc. The goal is to stay as paleo/primal as possible, especially if you are doing a reset.

We would love to have you join us. My dog of 15 years died on Dec. 21st and I gained all the weight I lost last year + one pound, so my short term goal is to lose 10% which will be 17 pounds. My starting weight was 177, so my 10% goal is 160. Since Thursday, April 2nd, I have already lost 5 pounds and weighed in yesterday at 172!

I also wanted to mention that the scale does not reflect your progress accurately. I actually focus on "loss in inches" which really indicates a loss of fat. I really don't care about the pounds in numbers, if my clothes start falling off of me I know that I am making progress.

When I started the reset on April 1st, I weighed in on April 2nd when I saw my doctor at 177. Yesterday I had a bone scan and had an unexpected weigh-in and found that I had lost 5 pounds down to 172, but as a rule I won't weigh again until I feel that my clothes are fitting loser... it would only frustrate me if I weigh-in and I find that I am not making any progress at all!

... anyway, I hope you decide to join us and I wish you the best of luck in reaching your goal(s) emoticon ~ Dee

Hi, My name is Debbie. I'm 63 and having the hardest time losing weight at this time in my life.
The scale does not budge. I try to stay gluten free and know I shouldn't play around with it but every once in a while I cave. I'm hoping with the team's support I can lose the 10-15 pounds I gained in the last 4 years. I also need to lower my cholesterol. It was so much easier when I was younger and working at my teaching job. I plan on reading this forum and getting some pointers on how Paleo has worked for all of you.
Have a wonderful day and thanks for any help you can give me. emoticon

emoticon MCCRAEE1 ... it took me awhile to warm up to the lifestyle myself. A Sparkfriend introduced me to it and I have never looked back... that was about 4 years ago. I have hit my goal a few times, but relapsed again and again. I recently relapsed when my dog died on Dec. 21st. I had lost from 178 to 158 and all of my numbers went down... cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides...

Good luck to you in reaching your goal(s). emoticon emoticon

Hi, I am a 50 year old mom/wife who works way too much. I found crossfit about 18 months ago and they all ate via this really weird paleo/primal method. I held out for a long while since everything I knew said that was not smart eating. Not sure why but I've been won over and have lost 20 pounds and lowered my cholesterol on the way. I would like to drop another 10 pounds.

I have done several of the Whole Life Challenges. Generally no alcohol, no added sugar, no refined carbs or grains. They do allow some greek yogurt dairy and oatmeal but I mostly avoid those anyway. Also, exercise, mobility, drink water & sleep enough.

Thank you for the info Dee...I will def. check it out. I am not sure how well I will do, for me it seems far easier to trudge through a physical workout than the mental workout of trying to figure my body out and my nutritional needs.

Hope your Dr visit went better than ya think.

I would like to recommend a book... The Paleo Cure by Chris Kresser. Here is a description of the book:

"IT WORKS: It is not about forcing something that worked for others to work for you. It is about finding out exactly what does work for you. Despite our similarities, it is our differences that make it impossible for any standard diet to work for everyone. Personalization works.

IT'S DOABLE: If other diets and other solutions to your chronic symptoms have failed you before, it's probably because they weren't right for you. This approach is more flexible and sustainable over the long-term because it takes your unique needs into account.
It's not a diet.

IT'S NOT A DIET: "The Paleo Cure" isn't just about Paleo food; it also helps you customize all the critical factors that make you healthy and happy, like sleep, physical activity, stress management, and social connection."

Here is the link to the books description: paleocurebook.com/

Link to Chris Kresser's website... he has a lot of free ebook's and information here:
chriskresser.com/articles

I like Chris Kresser's because he understands that living paleo is "not a one size fits all" lifestyle. I did a Chris Kresser reset last year and had great results... within 2 months of following the reset my health improved. Here are my before/after results:

Weight: 176/158
LDL: 127/107
Cholesterol: 187/167

I recently gained all the weight back because I loss my dog of 15 years on Dec.21st, so I am doing the reset again. I have a doctor's appointment later on today and will have some tests done so I that I can find out what my numbers are and how much damage I have done to myself with all this weight gain. I feel miserable.

Re DAIRY

The Primal lifestyle, Mark Sisson, allows high quality dairy... I follow a paleo/primal lifestyle because I am not going to eliminate dairy completely. I found though, that I may have to reduce dairy when trying to lose weight because it seems to stall weight loss, at least for me.

Here is a link to the Primal Blueprint website for more information: www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-bluep
ri
nt-101/

****************
... and of course, making small changes, like eating as clean and close to nature as possible, will make a big difference. You don't have to transition to this lifestyle over night, it's a process. I am still learning and the paleo/primal community is also still evolving. There are so many websites with tons of information.

...anyway, I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information and if you have any questions please let me know. ~ Dee

Hi everyone. I joined your group today out of curiosity and intrigue! Believe it or not today is the very first time I have ever heard of Paleo. I was doing a bit of research into PCOS (which I believe I may have although undiagnosed). I am not a hypochondriac. Let me just say that. lol

I am not sure that I can live without cheese but I am interested in starting to make smaller changes into the paleo lifestyle.

I have body aches and some stomach issues and pcos symptoms. (LOTS!)

I began this weight loss back in 2010 and in a year I had lost about 85-90 pounds. I was home a lot and I could regulate what I ate and when I ate it and my exercise. I had a routine. Looking back I can see I ate a lot of chicken and a lot of salad. In fact every meal consisted of my plate being at least half full of salad fixins. I drank milk (but I measured it and I probably only had about 1/2 cup a day with a cup of cereal). I gave up soda and had a strange craving for pickled beets.

Then I began working all different shifts and that flew out the window. The weight loss stopped. I have played around with the same 25-30 pounds for over 4 years now.

It's time to take it to the next level. It's time to get healthier and feel better.

Truthfully I have never followed any plan like weight watchers of adkins or anything like that so I don't know how well I will do but reading all the comments even if a make a few changes I will be doing for the better right?

Hi! Now that I'm living on my own, I'd like to develop an eating style that is entirely mine. Paleo appeals to me, though I'll include butter and heavy cream in my plan, too. For various reasons, I think I'll do better on the lower end of the carb scale. Overdoing the carbs can put me into quite a funk! Seriously: for me, sugar, grains, and the like can make me feel drugged. I get a CSA box every other week, so I'll be trying to find creative uses for what I get in that.

PS...
I noticed in the last post you suggested joining the 30 day challenge. Can I do that mid-stream? And if so, how do I join? I followed the link, but I don't see how to join.

Thanks again,
S.

Hi there...
Yesterday I started on the Whole30. My health has been suffering as a result of a poor diet. I keep telling myself... "I'm too young to feel this old!" Typically, I don't reach out for help, but this time, I am looking to others (y'all) for support, advice and motivation. I am at a point where I really must turn this around, for the sake of my sanity and well-being. I know enough about nutrition and my body to know that when I follow the Paleo plan I feel much better.
So here I am -Once again- open to any suggestions.

Thanks,
S.

Hi All:

Once again, back for more on Sparks. I was doing Paleo and man what difference in how I felt physically. Then I went back to eating whatever, whenever I wanted. I'm miserable and disheartened that I care so little for myself. But, here I am again and willing to give it a go. Paleo makes sense for me since it eliminated so many of my aches and pains...and I lost weight.

I am new to the Paleo diet. Not really strict I still have cream in my coffee when I have it. Other than that no dairy, sugar or processed foods. I do feel full or content throughout the day so I can honestly say I have no cravings. I do eat out and I am just very careful what I order. So far I have had great results.

Hi, everyone! My name is Amanda, and I am new to paleo. I tried it a year ago and was doing well, but then my mother died of breast cancer and things went off the rails. But I'm recommitted! I am eleven days without grains and already feel better. I am less hungry throughout the day. I am noticing that my sleep quality is suffering a bit since I started, but Google tells me that might be normal. Did anyone else have that problem? Anyway, I look forward to learning more about paleo and am excited about the support from this team.

I am nearly paleo except for some greek yogurt and occasional beans. I feel great and have lost about 30 pounds over the last year or so.

Hello everyone. I have used SP in the past but haven't stuck with it. Last year I tried a paleo lifestyle and found really good success. I was exercising, had a tremendous amount of energy and I was loosing weight. I felt better than I had in years and people were telling me they could see a difference and wanted to know what I was doing. Then I cheated here and there, while my mom was visiting me on her vacation. After she left....I couldn't get control. I just couldn't get back in the program. Since then, I have put the weight back on and have been very unhappy. I want that feeling back paleo brought to me. I started back on today. We'll see. Oh and since then, my mom has tried paleo, stuck with it and is off all meds, went down three sizes and has built up her muscle mass. I know it works!

Janelen I am so happy for you! Way to go! Yes I find that as I adapt to a healthier diet I am not as hungry after I eat. I stay full longer. I dont seem to crave as many double starches and sweets either. Keep up the great work!

I am kinda new here. Got lost shortly after I joined several years ago and gave up. I am back and ready to pick up and learn how to use SP now. I am pretty new to Paleo cooking though. I am learning a lot from The Weston A. Price Foundation and when I follow that I loose weight. Price's was is very similar to Paleo.

I am learning how to ferment foods for the Probiotics. I love garlic flavored fermented Radishes.

The one thing that I have found surprising about Paleo recipes on line is that they used canned tomatoes, tomato sauces etc. I would think to be pure paleo you would want to make your own of those things as well. I would cheat on the paste though! LOL Takes too long to cook down!

A little about me. I am married with two adult kids, and two boxers. Had 3 but our old man Ernie recently passed away. He was our rescue baby and we figured he was about 9 yrs old. He came with no expression on his sweet little boxer face and with in a month we saw him change every day and saw his eyes light up. Some day we hope to rescue again. He was given a life sentence in the medical field of about 2 months tops if we were lucky. He was with us for a year, and a month and a few weeks! We changed his name from Freedom to Ernie Freedom Borgnine because he kinda looked like Ernest Borgnine!

Thank you for excepting my request to join the group. I hope I can offer some recipes to help others on their path as well as find some good ones on my path to wellness.

Hello. I just joined the team today. I just started eating paleo January of this year (2015). I have already lost 14 pounds and feel really good.

I am a married mom of 4 kids (2 away at college). I work part-time and am also back at school (getting a master's) to become an art teacher.

My challenge now is finding new meal ideas so it doesn't get boring. I think this Spark Team will really help me.

Hello everyone my name is Debbie. I started on Paleo a few weeks ago through a nutritionist and so far I am loving it. I haven't felt this good in a long time. I'm so glad I found this team to ask questions and share information with. I'm usually not very good about posting but I plan to be active with this group because I know how important support is in the weight loss journey. Looking forward to talking and sharing with everyone.

Hello my name is Janelen. I have been a member of Sparkpeople for many years now. I have been yo yo dieting for years. I started with a trainer about a year ago and I did okay-until the holidays. Food binging and my trainer quit for another job. I now have a new trainer and I have learned so much from her including the benefit of a paleo diet. I really love it. I have never felt so good in my life and I cannot imagine ever going off it. I still have some foods I am going to work on weaning myself from such as greek yogurt and coffee but those are the only two food that I have a problem with. I dont even miss the sweeties. :) Looking forward to learning from you all and meeting you.

Welcome to the team!

Your family sounds tailor made for the Paleo way of eating. I think you will be very pleasantly suppressed at how good the food taste and it won't take long at all before you realize that you don't miss any of the old food you use to eat.

Hi my name is Heather, I finally decided it was time to starting eating the Paleo way. Our family has never been much for grains because of our son can not eat gluten. But there has always been dairy in the house which I do eat on occasion. But the reason for the big change is husband was told by the doctor he needed to give up the gluten and the dairy for his health....so here were are.

I started reading and last week I picked up the book "Nom Nom Paleo". My son and I love the food in the book. My husband had yet to try anything yet as he is away working.

Good Morning everyone and welcome KLH702.

I've been a member of this team since joining SP and have been doing Paleo for @ two years. For a while this team was inactive and I am really excited that you are all here.

Kim - processed foods are hard to give up for a reason. They are addictive. Most likely you are going through withdrawal. I know it is hard but power through it. You will be amazed when you come out the other side how incredible real food taste! My experience is that it doesn't take that long - maybe 1 or 2 weeks - before the foods hold over you starts giving way. A very small spot of time when you are talking about the health of your entire life. Plus most processed foods are expensive. Once you stop buying the junk you will be amazed at how much money you save! I spend less money now even though I buy the grass fed quality meat, pastured chicken eggs, and organic veggies.

KLH702 - there are a ton of links on the pages of this team. Do a little exploring and you will find a lot of available reading material.

My sisters Allergist (AMA Doc) recommended she go Paleo/Primal over three years ago when her gluten free diet was not helping her Celiacs. My Dr. didn't have an issue with it when I told him that is how I was eating Paleo and he is an Assoc. Prof of Medicine at the local Medical school. Plus my medical numbers improved dramatically and its hard to argue with that when it is the only change made. My son who is a MD, instructor of Medicine at Harvard, and has been published in several journals also did not have an issue with my eating Paleo. The diet is becoming more main stream and it would appear that no one has dropped dead from eating it emoticon The AMA still is SAD, the establishment moves slow, and most Docs. tow the line. But individual Docs have learned what the diet is about - eating whole foods and no junk - and realize it is less dangerous than the junk food diets most people have. My doc still leans toward the Mediterranean diet but that is because a lot of the research published pushes that. If you look at what the original Greek diet the Mediterranean diet is based on it has heavy Olive oil, veggies and seafood. Expect for the bread - that is Paleo!

Hi and Welcome! That is great progress, Congratz!
I am interested in the reasons your internist gave on checking out Paleo. Not usual for modern medicine to make the suggestion.

Hi everyone! I've been seeing an internist since October and down 24 pounds since then, but at my last appointment last week he mentioned I should check out the Paleo diet. So I looked on pinterest and found some recipes to try this week and even a Paleo magazine so just wanted to say hi and any beginners tips would be awesome! emoticon

Thanks for the welcome guys! I am determined to stick with this, even though I am starting to think I need a therapist to get off of processed foods. I've been experiencing some anxiety/sadness at not being able to eat my normal diet. Physically, I am already feeling a lot more energetic, so that is awesome. Its just the mental/emotional aspect that I have to deal with now. I'm going to try that cauliflower dish! I definitely need to start eating more veggies to fill me up. I'll have a stove again in a month and then I'll be roasting veggies every night. :)

I had RNY gastric bypass, and I choose to never eat ANY grains again. I had a few complications after surgery and just dont want to play lottery with my health in regards to grains. BUT processed foods or others items like sugar substitutes, Crystal light, sauces and potatoes... OH MY, hard to let go. On the whole, I eat a lot of protein, veggies and fruits and am doing well. I do labs in Feb and I see my doc in March. I find the Paleo Way of living mimics a lot of my RNY choices. Considering before surgery I drank LOTS of sodas and ate a bunch of crap, I am doing and looking amazing.

I look forward to great ideas and support here.

emoticon Hi Kim, soda crackers and bakery goods sounds like my old diet! lol (Throw in some cheese and popcorn lol ;) ) I was not a big vegetable eater either but my favorite way to eat most veggies is a tiny bit of salt and pepper and to either saute them in a tiny bit of EVOO or coconut oil or roast them, but without an oven that would be hard. lol Also, one of my favorite new Paleo recipes is to steam cauliflower and then mash it with a little chicken stock and add a tint bit of butter. They'll never be like real mashed potatoes but it's very close and a great comfort food. I am taking this VERY slowly and having a lot of setbacks but I am determined to keep trying to get to 100% Paleo. Good luck to you! emoticon

welcome to the team kim!

Your right - there are many ways to do Paleo. Paleo is a template so you should be able to find your food comfort zone. When I go cold turkey on sugar it takes me @ a week of powering through the cravings and then it gets so much easier. A week is a very short time - so you can do this!

You will probably find that once you give up grains and sugary food your taste buds will change and you will start to taste the natural sweetness in veggies and your occasional fruit. Also - healthy fat sources are now OK so using them in cooking veggies (or on salad dressings) may increase the flavor of them.

Hi! I'm Kim and I am on Day 2 of eating Paleo. I tried it for a couple of weeks before and felt great, but then I fell off the wagon. But now I'm back and going cold turkey. I'm just trying to survive the first week but then I'll probably have lots of questions. I'll definitely need to learn how to make vegetables taste good. I have never eaten many of them, so that's my biggest hurdle in all of this. This week I'm just steaming them or eating them raw. I don't have a stove right now either, so that limits my abilities. But I can still stir fry and steam. I think the most confusing part is figuring out what I want my 'Paleo' to consist of--there seems to be a bit of variance of what foods are allowed. Its pretty crystal clear that my usual diet of soda and crackers and bakery goods is a no go though. :) Which is good.

Anyway, happy to join you all--you seem very knowledgeable and friendly!

~Kim~

Interesting....I'll have to look it up. Definitely easing. lol The best part is though, I really want to keep doing this. With most diets you feel resentful that you have to eat that way to loose weight but with this way of eating I know it's better for me whether or not I loose weight so I am happier trying to do it. :)

welcome Diintrp to the team!

Have you guys tried bulletproof coffee? There are a lot of references to it in the Paleo world. Just Google it to get a recipe.

I'm not a coffee drinker - Chocolates/sugar's my vice.

Some people go full into Paleo, others ease into it. I'm an easer. Both are viable options on this journey to health - as long as we educate ourselves and become more empowered on our own journey.

same here, I love my coffee! I am not strict Paleo yet either. I still use the Coffemate creamers usually, but I have tried the coconut milk and almond milk and it's just not the same. My thought process is the same, one thing at a time. Once I get better at eating paleo for most of my meals and have lost a significant amount of weight, I will worry about the coffee. :)

I am a fierce coffee drinker lol. Im not strict Paleo yet as I use sugar substitute in my coffee. One thing at a time. The coconut milk is good in the coffee. Having RNY and changing my lifestyle has not been easy, so I am making adjustments when I can, and as I can.

Hi everyone!!!

I am new to the team. I had RNY in March of 2014 and made the decision to not eat grains for many reasons. It was nice stumbling on the Paleo Lifestyle as it really mirrors what I am doing. I am now tweaking things like using coconut oil when I cook and coconut milk in my morning coffee. I have so much more to learn and apply, but I am looking forward to being healthier than I have been in the last two decades.

Hugs!!!!

Welcome Pamela

I just love hearing people say they couldn't eat another way. I've been doing Paleo a bit longer but I am a convert as well.

Welcome TA11Girl1

Paleo isn't a 'diet' - it is a life style. It is also a template for how to eat. There are many different varieties so your 'modified' version might just fit in with one of these versions. I didn't start out 100% and still don't hit that target most days. But the closer I eat to 100% the better I feel.

If you check around this teams various threads you will find a ton of links to read. One of the most common places to start for beginners or for those who are staring out slowly is Mark Sissons site. Here is a link

Hi all. I'm joining this team because right now I'm following what I am calling a "modified Paleo lifestyle". It seems like a good fit for me and my habits, but I don't believe in jumping into anything dramatically different...for me that's a recipe for failure.

So while I slowly acclimate myself to the lifestyle, I want to be involved in a group to learn more about it. And help me stay on the path.

About me - my name is Michelle, I'm 45, and live in Canada. I joined SP about three weeks ago, and have been investigating the Paleo lifestyle for about three months. Also, I hate the word 'diet' :)

Hi Everyone,

I am joining this team as I consider and read about the paleo diet. I did something almost exactly like whole 30 in July/august and have been sugarfree since. I began watching my carbs in October and have felt great following a low carb diet. My diet is continuing to evolve. I find myself eating mostly fish, eggs, meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts and some dairy products.

I am a mom of 4 children still at home, I usually have a noisy, busy house. This week has been an exception since I am at home in bed with the flu (and my laptop).

Welcome to the team Diane.

A Whole 30 is certainly a jump right in there way to start. I've done a couple of them. Both Michelle Tam of Non non Paleo and Melissa Joulwan of The clothes Make the Girl are excellent resources for tasty whole 30 recipes. The Foodee site also has a lot of good choices.

Welcome KDOREE!

A little planning goes a long way. Get your non-Paleo trigger foods out of the house. Develop a list of go to Paleo recipes that can become a foundation of your diet. And most importantly don't expect perfection right out of the starting gate. Remember this is a life style not a weight loss diet. (Although most people's weight adjust to a healthy level so if you are overweight you will probably lose with little effort.) And you can play with your carb levels to tweak what works for you.

There are a lot of resources among the various threads of this team. So take some time to explore. If you have any questions just ask. And if you need support - that's what a team is all about emoticon
