I combined the Primal and Paleo lifestyles to provide more options.

Primal allows: grass fed/organic dairy

I do a hybrid of both primal/paleo because I am not going to give up dairy unless it causes inflammation or stalls my weight loss efforts. I have about 30+ pounds to lose.

Please join this months 30 day reset. The reset is the process of eliminating all non-paleo/primal foods ... however, if you know that a food does not cause inflammation,etc., continue to include that food in your diet.

Hi all, I'm new to this team, but not to Spark People. I've tried a LOT of diets and lifestyle changes, but nothing has stuck. My greatest success came with Atkins, but my doctor didn't like my cholesterol numbers and it didn't feel healthy. So, on to paleo. I don't know if I can give up dairy though and I'm not sure why it is so bad. I love a couple of tablespoons of grass fed milk in my tea in the morning along with a teaspoon of coconut oil. So, I have more learning to do and a hip problem to overcome. I'm looking forward to a healthier lifestyle!

Hey, I'm Nivanio, 27, from Brazil. Started paleo about 6-7 months ago. Went from 103kg to 82kg without any exercise, just eating paleo. I still have some problems, like drinking diet soda, I can drink 2l of that thing everyday...
Last week started weight lifting at home with just dumbbells, will see how that works.

Over the years I've tried all kinds of different diets, but I've never gotten to the point where I saw it as a LIFESTYLE, not a diet. I'm ready to change my thinking and focus on my health. Hello I'm Char,
My husband and I have been Paleo since November of 2013. We were strict Paleo from Nov 2013-Jan 2014 for a Challenge thru dh's CrossFit place. I lost 20 lbs. during the challenge. Dh asked if I wanted to make this a lifestyle. I said I would be willing to make it a lifestyle if we did 80/20% instead of everyday being a strict 100%. So we are guess more Primal then Paleo. I was missing my café mocha's during the challenge. I'm not allergic to dairy so I have 1 cup of grass fed milk per day in the morning (mixed with 2 oz. of espresso and 1 oz. of melted 72% - 86% dark chocolate. I'm going to try and cut it back to only having it a couple times a week come June and I'm off work and make it more of a treat instead of daily habit. Want to drink more green tea instead. Dh has more 100% days then I do since he doesn't drink milk in his coffee he has always drank nothing adding to his coffee.

I have gained some of the weight back over the last couple of months and feel the need to get back closer to 100% Paleo again. Feel Summer time will be easier since I'll be off work.

Hi All - I'm Hana. I joined the team last week, but wasn't sure I was ready to take the Paleo plunge yet. I got myself into gear this year and had some success dropping weight and getting healthier with a prescribed detox as I've been suffering for years with skin problems, sciatica, back and joint pain and wanted to take my life back. After the detox, I wanted to continue my success, so I followed the Fast Metabolism Diet for 28 days. I lost a bit more on that, but knew it was not a sustainable way to eat/live. So, I've just kind of been 'winging it' getting exercise in daily and trying to eat 'sensibly' (whole grains, yada-yada), but not doing a very good job of it.

Well, the weight started coming back on, along with the joint pain, face breaking out, back decided to go on me and I knew that it was all due to my diet. I had been reading up on Paleo and realised that it was very similar (yet not quite as restrictive) as the detox I had done. After about 2 weeks of (procrastination) research, I have decided this is the lifestyle that I want for myself (and hopefully, my family too!).

I'm starting the Primal Blueprint 21-day program tomorrow (officially), but have cut out all grains since last Thursday and am amazed at the results already! The sciatica is GONE! Joint inflammation is down and my back is twinge-free. My face is clearing up and I dropped three of the 5 pounds I gained back. I think this is definitely going to work for me!!

THANKS for this list............. im strictly on green leafy veggies, summer squash, cukes, celery, blueberries all fish and meats. Off Dairy, all grains, all root vegies , all nightshades.....


but need to find something to fill up on besides the lettuce.

.. the reset is basically eliminating all non-paleo/primal foods for 30 days and then slowly one by one, re-introduce the foods that you would like to eat. There are many resets but I follow Chris Kresser's... here is an outline:

I am doing monthly resets because I don't consider this a quick fix and although I may reintroduce foods back in gradually I still need to be accountable and I like the structure/guidelines of the reset. Keeps me on track.

Hello, im sally .............i've been plagued by severe, chronic eczema for many years. I've gone to several Dr.s and Skin Dr.s and they just give me different steroid ointments and prednisone. The weekend past, I went to a women's retreat and another woman sat next to me and gently put her hand on mine and asked Eczema? I nodded yes because i couldn't speak due to her kindness and my pain. Well it must have been divine intervention because she told me her story about years of the same suffering and told me how she got rid of hers . NO Grain including corn, no root veggies, no Dairy, no nightshades and NO SUGAR. Nothing processed. I tried starting on Saturday. and ive lost 4 pounds already.

im over retirement age. Just divorced after 38 yrs . have 3 kids adult kids and i have 5 grandchildren and I take care of my dad and i take art classes.

Im looking forward to meeting you all here on sparks and learning from you and sharing.

Hi! My name is Vickie and my husband and I have been doing a somewhat-paleo diet since the beginning of the year. Mostly, we try to go grain free. We do have our moments of weakness, though. :) Initially, I lost 5 pounds in the first week or so. Since then I've started exercising (couch to 5K) and try to eat good overall. Have not lost any more weight! Ugh! Does anybody have tips on getting enough carbs for energy? I have to somewhat limit my fruit intake as I'm fructose intolerant. :(

Well, the Paleo/primal lifestyle worked for me last year. I posted my stats earlier in this thread but here are my before/after results I accomplished in just 2 months::

Weight: 176/158
LDL: 127/107
Cholesterol: 187/167

I can honestly say that I love this lifestyle.

We post our meals, exercise, ask questions, inspire, motivate and support each other everyday, or as often as possible. It doesn't matter what paleo/primal lifestyle plan you follow, i.e., Whole 30, Chris Kresser, Primal Blueprint (Mark Sisson), The Paleo Solution (Robb Wolf), etc. The goal is to stay as paleo/primal as possible, especially if you are doing a reset.

We would love to have you join us. My dog of 15 years died on Dec. 21st and I gained all the weight I lost last year + one pound, so my short term goal is to lose 10% which will be 17 pounds. My starting weight was 177, so my 10% goal is 160. Since Thursday, April 2nd, I have already lost 5 pounds and weighed in yesterday at 172!

I also wanted to mention that the scale does not reflect your progress accurately. I actually focus on "loss in inches" which really indicates a loss of fat. I really don't care about the pounds in numbers, if my clothes start falling off of me I know that I am making progress.

When I started the reset on April 1st, I weighed in on April 2nd when I saw my doctor at 177. Yesterday I had a bone scan and had an unexpected weigh-in and found that I had lost 5 pounds down to 172, but as a rule I won't weigh again until I feel that my clothes are fitting loser... it would only frustrate me if I weigh-in and I find that I am not making any progress at all!

Hi, My name is Debbie. I'm 63 and having the hardest time losing weight at this time in my life.
The scale does not budge. I try to stay gluten free and know I shouldn't play around with it but every once in a while I cave. I'm hoping with the team's support I can lose the 10-15 pounds I gained in the last 4 years. I also need to lower my cholesterol. It was so much easier when I was younger and working at my teaching job. I plan on reading this forum and getting some pointers on how Paleo has worked for all of you.

emoticon MCCRAEE1 ... it took me awhile to warm up to the lifestyle myself. A Sparkfriend introduced me to it and I have never looked back... that was about 4 years ago. I have hit my goal a few times, but relapsed again and again. I recently relapsed when my dog died on Dec. 21st. I had lost from 178 to 158 and all of my numbers went down... cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides...

Hi, I am a 50 year old mom/wife who works way too much. I found crossfit about 18 months ago and they all ate via this really weird paleo/primal method. I held out for a long while since everything I knew said that was not smart eating. Not sure why but I've been won over and have lost 20 pounds and lowered my cholesterol on the way. I would like to drop another 10 pounds.

I have done several of the Whole Life Challenges. Generally no alcohol, no added sugar, no refined carbs or grains. They do allow some greek yogurt dairy and oatmeal but I mostly avoid those anyway. Also, exercise, mobility, drink water & sleep enough.

I would like to recommend a book... The Paleo Cure by Chris Kresser. Here is a description of the book:

I like Chris Kresser's because he understands that living paleo is "not a one size fits all" lifestyle. I did a Chris Kresser reset last year and had great results... within 2 months of following the reset my health improved. Here are my before/after results:

I recently gained all the weight back because I loss my dog of 15 years on Dec.21st, so I am doing the reset again. Re DAIRY

The Primal lifestyle, Mark Sisson, allows high quality dairy... I follow a paleo/primal lifestyle because I am not going to eliminate dairy completely. I found though, that I may have to reduce dairy when trying to lose weight because it seems to stall weight loss, at least for me.

Hi everyone. I joined your group today out of curiosity and intrigue! Believe it or not today is the very first time I have ever heard of Paleo. I was doing a bit of research into PCOS (which I believe I may have although undiagnosed). I am not a hypochondriac. Let me just say that. lol

I am not sure that I can live without cheese but I am interested in starting to make smaller changes into the paleo lifestyle.

I have body aches and some stomach issues and pcos symptoms. (LOTS!)

I began this weight loss back in 2010 and in a year I had lost about 85-90 pounds. I was home a lot and I could regulate what I ate and when I ate it and my exercise. I had a routine. Looking back I can see I ate a lot of chicken and a lot of salad. In fact every meal consisted of my plate being at least half full of salad fixins. I drank milk (but I measured it and I probably only had about 1/2 cup a day with a cup of cereal). I gave up soda and had a strange craving for pickled beets.

Then I began working all different shifts and that flew out the window. The weight loss stopped. I have played around with the same 25-30 pounds for over 4 years now.

It's time to take it to the next level. It's time to get healthier and feel better.

Truthfully I have never followed any plan like weight watchers of adkins or anything like that so I don't know how well I will do but reading all the comments even if a make a few changes I will be doing for the better right?

Hi! Now that I'm living on my own, I'd like to develop an eating style that is entirely mine. Paleo appeals to me, though I'll include butter and heavy cream in my plan, too. For various reasons, I think I'll do better on the lower end of the carb scale. Overdoing the carbs can put me into quite a funk! Seriously: for me, sugar, grains, and the like can make me feel drugged. I get a CSA box every other week, so I'll be trying to find creative uses for what I get in that.

Hi there...
Yesterday I started on the Whole30. My health has been suffering as a result of a poor diet. I keep telling myself... "I'm too young to feel this old!" Typically, I don't reach out for help, but this time, I am looking to others (y'all) for support, advice and motivation. I am at a point where I really must turn this around, for the sake of my sanity and well-being. I know enough about nutrition and my body to know that when I follow the Paleo plan I feel much better.
So here I am -Once again- open to any suggestions.

Hi All:

Once again, back for more on Sparks. I was doing Paleo and man what difference in how I felt physically. Then I went back to eating whatever, whenever I wanted. I'm miserable and disheartened that I care so little for myself. But, here I am again and willing to give it a go. Paleo makes sense for me since it eliminated so many of my aches and pains...and I lost weight.

I am new to the Paleo diet. Not really strict I still have cream in my coffee when I have it. Other than that no dairy, sugar or processed foods. I do feel full or content throughout the day so I can honestly say I have no cravings. I do eat out and I am just very careful what I order. So far I have had great results.

Hi, everyone! My name is Amanda, and I am new to paleo. I tried it a year ago and was doing well, but then my mother died of breast cancer and things went off the rails. But I'm recommitted! I am eleven days without grains and already feel better. I am less hungry throughout the day. I am noticing that my sleep quality is suffering a bit since I started, but Google tells me that might be normal. Did anyone else have that problem? Anyway, I look forward to learning more about paleo and am excited about the support from this team.

I am nearly paleo except for some greek yogurt and occasional beans. I feel great and have lost about 30 pounds over the last year or so.

Hello everyone. I have used SP in the past but haven't stuck with it. Last year I tried a paleo lifestyle and found really good success. I was exercising, had a tremendous amount of energy and I was loosing weight. I felt better than I had in years and people were telling me they could see a difference and wanted to know what I was doing. Then I cheated here and there, while my mom was visiting me on her vacation. After she left....I couldn't get control. I just couldn't get back in the program. Since then, I have put the weight back on and have been very unhappy. I want that feeling back paleo brought to me. I started back on today. We'll see. Oh and since then, my mom has tried paleo, stuck with it and is off all meds, went down three sizes and has built up her muscle mass. I know it works!
