After 10+ years of false hopes and setbacks, my husband and I are finally starting our adoption journey. We are trying to adopt a baby girl from Ethiopia. We started our home study in November, but it was only completed a week ago. We are SO eager to finally get started.
Considering what is happening in Ethiopia, I did not want to visit the country of my daughter's birth as an overweight American. I feel that would be the ultimate insult to the country that is giving me the most precious gift. I want to be healthier for myself and my growing family. I was excited to see that other people shared the same motivation.
I managed to lose about 25 lbs in 2006 through portion control and very little exercise. However, with the stress of graduate school, internship, and a residency, I am now heavier than ever and looking for a change.
