I am a 38 year old wife and mother of 3 young boys, which includes a set of twins. My husband just retired after 32 years of teaching and I am heading back to the classroom this fall as a second grade teacher. I am planning on running a half marathon with a younger, stronger friend in early November and I am way behind schedule in training; however, I am excited to report that my last day of work with my current agency is this upcoming Friday, so I hope to use this time off from work to develop some good food and exercise habits. My kids are signed up for all sorts of activities, so I plan on having some time to myself or just the two of us.
I want to explain what brought me here today, but I want to add this personal disclaimer: I am not a "Debbie Downer". As a matter of fact, when friends, aquaintances, friends of friends, family, etc need motivation, inspiration, or an uplifting conversation, I am the one they come to. That being said, I struggled this morning...physically struggled when I tried on all my shorts from last summer and had to really work to get them on...and emotionally struggled when I realized I was going to a family picnic being uncomfortable in not only my clothing, but also my own skin.
I have no doubt that I can lose weight and get to be as healthy as I want. I did it after giving birth to our first child...using the Weight Watchers Core Plan. If you are not familiar, there is no need to measure your foods or write evrything down. The system worked by keeping track of a target number of fruit and veggie servings, water consumption, whole grains only...no processed foods or full fat dairy. That is what worked for me then, but it was restrictive in a sense, so I don't think that is what will work for me now.
My goals in the beginning here are to eliminate soda and processed snacks, like Doritos. I also need to get off my duff and get training for this race. Now that I will have more time, I want to actually use my gym membership for weight training, not just a cute key tag.
I tried to put up a picture, but size was too big. Once I mess with that a little bit, I will post my photo.
I am excited to be here, and will be a cheerleader for whoever needs it. Thank you, Andrea
Jogging is very beneficial. It's good for your legs and your feet. It's also very good for the ground. It makes it feel needed. ~Charles Schulz
