Good morning!
I lost 40lbs with sparkpeople 3 years ago. I foolishly stopped using sparkpeople after some time of maintenance.
When I worked strait nights, I found it easy to maintain my weight and stay healthy/make good choices.
BUT, now I'm a job where I rotate, sometimes multiple times a week. AND, I'm a house supervisor, so there is a whole new kind of stress.
When I worked strait nights I could stay consistent with workouts and planning and everything, but now I'm all turned around. I am having a hard time knowing when to eat, when to sleep, and how to function. HELP! My weight has steadily climbed over the last 6 months, and I don't feel good. I've struggled to keep working out, and done an okay job, but I have problems with insomnia now as well as eating right.
I'll take anything you can give me right now!

Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Ginger and I live in the Dayton OH area. I work as a Part Time Customer Care Rep for a restaurant equipment company where I take service calls for places like Applebees, WalMart, Target, Red Lobster, etc. Hoping to make lots of friends for support to get myself on a schedule where I am taking better care of me and being healthy! Look forward to meeting you all!

Hi. I have just joined Spark. My main goal is to lose weight. Having recently had some health issues and recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes, I have more determination now than ever. I work full time night shift. Been working night shift consistently now for the last 13 years. I find it difficult to stay on track when working these hours. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey everyone! I'm a night shift nurse. I work from 10:30pm to 8:30am 4 days a week. I've been doing night shift for years now. (and have lost weight in the past) my greatest challenge now is having an 8 month old and all the driving I do in a day due to child care and so on! I'm hoping to develop some consistency.

Hi everyone. I'm working 1030-630, and going to college on Tue/Thur from 8am-1pm. I'm pretty good about coming home and going to right to bed so that I can get up and spend time with my family. What I am not good about is exercising, I want to, but when I get up at 4pm I want to read, and do homework and relax. How do you squeeze in regular fitness?

Hello fellow Night Owls! Just recently restarted my Spark to get myself back on track and to shed the extra weight I have put on over the years. Glad to find some fellow overnighters out her!

Hi my name is Anna. I have been working 4p to 12a at a desk job for 2 years now. Fitting that in with a five year old and elderly parents to take care of leaves little time to take care of myself. Getting home at 12:30a-1a and then up by 7a to get the little one up and ready for school is hard, trying not to go back to sleep is harder.

Hi my name is Christina. I have been working overnights, at home, for nearly 3 years now. I recently joined Spark on a whim, to appease my mother, but I've had enough of my body and it's time to change something, so I'm getting serious bout it. Not only am I having to work on being more active and making healthier food choices. I'll save the details for my own sparkpage (or another post eventually). I am just glad I found a group of others who deal with the same "reversed meal" struggles as myself :) Nice to meet ya'll :)

Hi everyone! I've been working night shift for about 7 years, along with an occasional pm shift. I don't have a problem staying awake at night, but sometimes I have trouble sleeping during the day. When I track my food, I consider the start of my "day" in the morning when I get home from work. So breakfast and lunch are "like normal people", but dinner is around 1 a.m. I'm having trouble losing weight. I wonder how others are doing their tracking.

I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself to a team that understands working the "night owl" hours and facing the challenges of becoming healthy.
I've been working nights for only a few months. Making the switch from a day shift to a night shift has been a little more of a challenge then I expected.
I'm open for support and insight to how others make this happen.....

Hi Everyone, my name is Divya and I work third shift at a hospital. I work in a call center and do not deal with patients. I have been on third shift since October 2012 and other than my not exercising, I love it. I love having the option of doing something during the days or sleeping if I need that. I really super love that its very quiet and peaceful on my shift.
I need ideas and encouragement on when to fit exercise into my day. I need reminders that even though I am 43 its not too late to become strong physically.
I have no children or animals in my home, just my husband and myself so I dont need to juggle a lot of activities.
Please reach out to me, I need help right now.

Hello all. My name is Janet. I work night shifts as an RN in a nursing home. I joined because I am becoming increasingly frustrated in my efforts to balance fitness, work, sleep, and time with my family. I started tracking my food and working on healthy habits on Sept 18, 2012 and have lost 66 pounds so far. Spark people has been a HUGE help ! Looking forward to getting to know this team....

keep Moving Forward

I am on my off days so catching up on my mail. How cool is it to have a group of the NOCs group! Thanks for creating this group and hope to communicate with everyone from time to time!

I should have added why I am a NOCs person. I am a CNA at a LTC, Post-acute, and behavior facility working the night shift 2230 to 0700.

Hello Everyone!!!
I joined this team awhile ago but I haven't been on Spark in quite some time so I figured I would start over. My name is Amanda. I actually work third shift at a fast food restaurant anywhere from 2 to 4 days a week. The other days I work first or second shift. It is a challenge to work multiple shifts within a week and still try to maintain healthy habits. I am hoping through this group I can learn more about how to do this while working such weird hours.

Hello everyone! My name is Kathy and I am a full time STNA (10:30 - 6:30) in Ohio. I love working midnights but it is a challenge to fit sleeping, eating, exercise and taking medicine into a "routine" schedule. I'm hoping this team will be a great place to share and discuss the challenges of working third shift and living a healthy life.

Another day another step closer to a healthy life.

Kathy

Hey hey I'm Kristen and just started a job working the evening shift for a telephone relay company. I thought I'd join here to see how other people have handled their eating habits, sleeping habits, and exercise habits. So far I've just bumped everything back a few hours and am tracking everything (kind of fun to see what I'm making). To be honest, I'm actually trying to get an overnight shift since my hours are 3 to 1130 pm. I love being up all night!

Hi everyone! My name is Amanda and I've been working night shift since March. Before that I worked nights for a few months about a year ago. I will be on nights until January, and then I;ll be going to more of a second shift schedule. I don't mind night shift too much. I still get the same amount of sleep, it's just odd on the weekends when I'm making a burger at 1 a.m. because it's technically my lunch time. :-)

Hello Everyone! My name is Amanda. I work third shift 2-3 times a week. The other 2 or 3 days I could work any other shift possible. The thing about third shift that always messes me up is I used to work 1st shift. So during the day I am wide awake & feeling great. however, most of the time I miss my nap before working 3rd so when I am at work I am sooooo tired so i drink energy drinks & eat badly. I want to be able to find a way to stay healthy while working third shift. So that is why I thought it would be perfect to join this group emoticon

as a new member to this team, I'd like some advise on how to eat better. I am an overnight
manager for mcdonald's and most of the time I don't get a break and don't have a regular
eatting or sleeping pattern. This is making it hard on me to meet the goals I have set up for
myself.

Hi! I am a CNA in a Geri Psych Unit. I work Friday, Saturday and Sunday11 p to 7 a. Busy place on the night shift.

Just started back at spark for the idk how many time. But at least I am persistent.

I also go to nursing school and will finish up there this November. I do homecare four mornings a week and also have a per diem job I usually pick up a 3-11 shift once a week or so depending.

I am looking forward to getting to know the team and hopefully some suggestions on coping with these hours. For one - it is hard to name the meal...is it breakfast, dinner, snack lol.

Hi everyone. My name is Terri and I am an X-Ray Tech. I work part time mostly on the weekends all night shifts. I am going to be 44 this year. I am new to this group and to this site. I am not new to the weight loss journey, but this time feels different, so I am taking that as a good sign emoticon

Hi all: I started working nightshift about 4 months ago. My shift is 9pm to 5:30 am. Glad to have found a team of fellow nightshifters.

Hi everyone! As of Sept. of last year I went to overnight (4x10 or more). I do have set days on and off. I would like to lose 20 more pounds but i'm having a hard time with eating right. I do take meds that have to be at certain time of the day and my doc. and I set down together to set it overnight and not during the day.

have a good day

One day at a time!

Hi Everyone. I'm from the Owen Sound area and am in my late forties. It's time to get this weight off and keep it off before I turn fifty. My goal is to lose twenty five pounds by June 21st. I was thinking that was the first day of summer but I guess it's the 20th. A day at a time a meal at a time and we'll all get there. I've been on weight watchers on and off for years but when the recession hit had to give it up as I worked in automotive and our hours were cut. I wish I had found spark people then and maybe I wouldn't have gained back the 25 pounds I lost. I'm here now and ready to go. I work midnights 11:15 to 7:45.
Good luck everyone
Sandy

A day at a time and I will reach my goal. I am not perfect but I will forgive myself for the mistakes I make. Life is full of choices and sometimes we don't always make the best ones but that's what makes us human.

Good evening from the frozen north. I'm a RN and work the 1900-0730 shift on varying days of the week. Sometimes I'm working every other night with nights off in between. Would'nt be a problem if I didn't have little ones at home that are NOT nightshifters. I have managed to work this schedule since July of last year. I feed my family dinner at 5 instead of 6, pack my scrubs in a backpack and go to the gym before work. It has been a great energy booster. I've done this since November and have gone from 164 to 152 pounds and from 29% to 25% bodyfat. My only challenges are the snacking all night long (at least the cafeteria is not open) and making myself exercise on that first night off after a 3 day stretch (I feel like such a zombie!). My super supportive husband has been great with keeping an eye on the kids so I can escape to our "workout room" with my headphones on those days. I hope to continue to 20% bodyfat by my Florida vacation in April. Like I tell my cooworkers: you can't wear scrubs to the beach!

Hi Night Owls!

I currently work an overnight shift (4-10s) and I'd love to find folks to talk to overnight! I'm not naturally a night person, but I've always been flexible. Still, I find the eating a challenge. In my first three months on this schedule I managed to erase 9 months of weight loss from last year -- and discovered that donuts at midnight don't really keep me awake. New year, new habits!

Hi Kim ,

I agree with WilliamLc , I usually eat breakfast when I wake up, I take my morning meds then , and my pm meds when I come home from work,, I eat lunch around 2 or 3 am (if I remember too ) , and then I come home exercise and then eat and go to bed usually around 12 noon.
and I never sleep at night any more I stay up when its my day off ,, Because it took me so long to finally get a routine going .

MIni Goal A reached ,, I made it past 210.. WOOHOO.

And Welcome to the team!

With time I found out that for me it works to "start" the day at 10:30 pm when i wake up. Then it is breakfast time. lunch around 3 am, and dinner around 8 or 9 am.. I turned the day around. It works for me, maybe you could give it a try. Good luck!

Hello. I just found this group and I am so much a night owl. I am a nurse, so the shift work doesn't allow for a regular eat-sleep-wake routine as many of you know! Even when I am not working the night shift, I am still a night owl. (Just like tonight) I have trouble staying on track with my eating (staying within range) and exercising when I am working the night shift. I hope I will get some good ideas here!

Name is Kate... I am a nurse at a residential treatment facility for kids ages 8-21... I work 10 hr nights and I am sorry to say, I do not enjoy them in any way. I really had no choice becuase that is what the job offered. Don't get me wrong...it's not the job I don't like, it's the staying awake and feeling like a zombie for the rest of my life. My clock says beddy by and I'm supposed to be helping people??? YIKES! hoping to find some support in the matter from real Night Owls. this has had a bad impact on my exercise life...I hope to improve this greatly.

Hi! My name is Jasminka and I am part of Little Owls. My goal for the next two weeks is to workout 40-50 minutes of cardio and 20-30 minutes of strength training. I usually workout this long and I see great results! I also eat well but I have to be aware to sweets considering that I start school tomorrow and there will be a lot of stress in the next two weeks. I hope to support my LIttle Owls team and I hope I can receive support back :)

Hi team....I'm a 56 year old medical technologist that works 12 hour shifts, 7 nites on then 7 nites off. I work in a small rural hospital lab and I keep pretty busy because I work alone in the lab for my whole shift. I'm a widow of 6 years and have gained alot of weight during that time because food became my comfort whenever I was lonely...which is alot....which equals up to a lot of food!!!! So I'm looking to shed about 40 pounds by August and try to find myself again. I'm very much a hermit in real life so I have lots of issues to overcome, but getting healthy is my first priority right now. I know this site will help....it already has.

Hi I am Bonnie and I am 62 years old. I have worked midnights to 8 am for the past 15 years and am a police dispatcher. I love what I do and knowing that we help someone along the way has been very important to me. I live in the county and own a farm with my husband Bill and we raise cattle. Midnights has made it possible to be there during the day to help out.
I am trying to lose this excess of 100 pounds by next year. I am looking forward to the support of the team and hope to also be supportive as well. Everyone have a wonderful and blessed day. bonnie~~ emoticon
