Hmmm...been awhile. Busy Spring. All is well in my corner but looking at some change. I am thinking that my very active forward ponies would be better served by use in competition. By the time I get farmwork etc done I am too spent to think about driving them. My trainer is bringing along a quieter, less forwa rd pony...pretty and moves nice...just not a go getter like my boys. I know he is training to sell him and I know he is very fond of my Captain...so I am looking at a possible trade. It is a quaundry as I love my guys and find them amazing. Sometimes one has to make a change to move forward.

The world is so full of a number of things, I am sure we should all be as happy as kings...Robert Louis Stevenson

hey! My name is Julia, I do not own, however I was trained to event, and have leased a couple horses. My first horse that only I rode was an appaloosa thoroughbred mix, he was such a cool horse! He would soar over jumps, and collect himself into the most beautiful trot (comfy too!), I only got to show him once, but he taught me so much. Then I started a free lease with an azteca D dressage horse, he was beautiful (kinda dumb...but I loved him all the same). I never got the opportunity to show him (finances, and I didn't have access to a trailer) but he taught me how to deal with a spooky horse, and gave me the confidence to go out of my comfort zone. I'm living away from home now for school, and I haven't ridden in about a year, but I hope to get my own horse someday, and continue my dreams of being a successful eventer!

Aren't they just amazing these most wonderful creatures that allow us the privelige of gettin g on their backs. Of allowing us to lead them. Basically do what we ask and give us so much more in return!!
I give thanks practically every day for having found our mare, she, who was not used to people and yet is so loving and patient and amazing with my grandchildren.

Hi! I have a 15.1 Belgium/Quarter Horse Cross, named Velvet. She is my first horse. She is 20 years old, and stocky. I knew her for a few years, since I was working as a therapeutic riding instructor. Velvet was a thetapeutic riding mount, at the facility I worked at.
The facility wanted to rehome Velvet, because, she was a therapeutic mount, for so many years, and she wanted a nother career path. She was starting to spook and was irritated, and needed a change from her daily schedule and just a family to devote time and love to her.
So, I bought her. I was extatic! She is a charcole black, with white markings. I took her for her first ride, and she was very spooky. Took her in the indoor, she bucked me off.
I definately was to eager-I should have let her get used to things on the ground.
Now, we do lots of ground work. I am doing lots of descensitizing with her.
She is so great! She and I have definately bonded! She follows me around, all over the place. She is a sweet heart. We have a ways to go. Both of us.:)

Live to Ride!!
I prefer horses to people, anyday!

Hi. I am my second time aroound here at Spark People. I flubbed the first time. I started riding when I was around 10. Met my hubby at 19 and started to barrel race and he did other gymkhana events also including barrel racing. Put on a ton of weight with my first pregnancy and stopped riding. Started a few years ago, after I lost weight with Spark People and two years ago we bought a registered Quarter Horse mare, 10 years old 14.3 hands (just right for me :-) ) named Montana Micoleo. She was just green broke but she learns really fast. We bought her to amuse oursleves and trail ride. No more competitions for us.

I own a 16hh Red Roan Draft cross named Gwen. My love of horses started when I was very young, I used to sit on my aunts Dead Broke mare before I can even remember. This is the first horse I have owned as an adult. I find it harder to balance myself compared to being a teenager, I also cannot get up into the saddle without a mounting block due to my arm strength and weight issues. It is because of this that I decided to lose weight. I want to be able to mount from the ground on my own and be able to keep up with my horse when walking.

My love affaire with horses began at about the age of 4 when my godfather put me on his horse while he was talking to my dad.
At this point in my life I have three horses. 30yr old Morgan gelding, a 24yr old Appy mare and a 18yr old (non broke) Morgan/Quarter x mare. None have been ridden in the 5 years I have lived in Fl. (I had them trucked down when we moved from NH)

I continually strive to be the person my dogs think I am.

I have 2 buckskin paint mares - Mother and foal. Horses are my passion - I have to see them and be around them I can't function if I'm not. I have strayed so far away from being active with them though - One of my main reasons for getting fit and healthy again is so I can finally participate more with the horses (riding and such)

What breed(s) do you have? What do you love best about your horse? Least? Successes? Challenges? How has this horse made an impact on your life?

WTTS Challenge Team Bahama Mamas~ Melting Ice and Weight in 2010!

Your biggest challenge isnít someone else. Itís the ache in your lungs and the burning in your legs, and the voice inside you that yells, "CANíT", but you donít listen. You just push harder. And then you hear the voice whisper "can" and you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are.
