I live in the Lake Alfred area and work in Lakeland. I'm in my 60's. I'm an active member of the Florida Trail (Heartland Chapter) group. With them on a lot Sat. or Sun., I do hikes, light bike rides, trail maintenance, and other fun events (that quite often involve food). On other weekends, my husband and I do kayaking with Meetup groups (through the Meetup.com site) usually in the Tampa area. Those events are also usually followed by food.
In January 2009, I came down with Shingles. That through a lot of my life on hold (for way too long). What really suffered was my physical activity and conditioning. I did start getting more active as the months progressed.
In December, I made a committment to exercise. My committment was to excercising a minimum of four days a week. For me to mark that day on the calander, I need to move more than 20 minutes in row. However, most weekdays (I work out in the mornning before my shower) I have put in 30 to 40 minutes. Dec., Jan, & Feb. were colder than I liked, so I didn't have a many Sat. or Sun. multi hour events as usual. Since December I have put in 23 weeks in a row of a minumum of four days a week.
My weight had been steadily climbing for a long time (years). In January, at work we started a "Biggest Loser" competition at work. My goal with weight loss has been to lose a minimum of 22 pounds. (My husband would like to see me loose a total of 32 pounds.)
I had planned to spend January focusing on making the exercising being a firm habit before adding tracking food and counting calories.
In January, my boss sent us a invitation to SparkPeople. I put in the information on my January exercise minutes on the site.
Since January, I have logged 3,713 minutes of exercise though yesterday.
My plan with calorie has been try to eat an average of the calories of the weight I want to be. I think if I get used to eating the calories for that weight it will be easier to stay there. As of today, I have lost 18 pounds. (Came in second in our "Biggest Loser" competition).
I have also been trying to eat a minumum of five fruits & veggies a day.
What has been a shock to me since tracking my food on SparkPeople.com is how bad my Sosium intake is. I started choosing a lot of my foods based on their Sodium content.
It seems every month I am using the Spark site more fully. Today, I discovered this group. I am getting ready for a vacation, so I probably won't be as active with this group as I plan to be when I get back.
